I told myself when I started writing fiction for literally the first time a couple months ago that the joy of the craft and self-expression is what really matters. But your support has made me realize the truth. What really matters is the steady drip of endorphins I get from watching number go up, and I will reorient my entire life in pursuit of that goal. I recently had a story get featured, drop off, and then get featured again. It was a surreal experience.
I was about to say "this wears off after a time" but no, no it doesn't. You eventually know somewhere, in the back of your head, that the numbers going up don't really mean anything and you put too much importance on them... but you still watch them go up anyway because monkey like banana.
Let us be monkeys together.
