Speak Updates · 3:51pm Mar 16th, 2020

So Speak is not dead, work has just eaten my life! While I do have a job that is often on call, I have a hard time finding the mental RAM to be able to write when a part of me is stressing about whether or not the phone is going to ring with someone having the worst day of their life so far. While things have calmed down considerably with CoVid-19 going around, it's slowed down the number of calls I get, but the stress remains.

...Unless I listen to songs from Angel Beats! at 4am, apparently.

The point is, I am about 6200 words into Speak chapter 21. I've written at least two major scenes, and one of the victims pre-readers described one of the scenes as 'uncomfortably relatable' and my editor looked it over and asked me if I'd been spying on his therapy sessions so I think I did a good with the evoking the feels. I think. I hope?

I do not have a specific ETA on the chapter, and I apologize for that. I have been trying to devote more of my free time to writing now that the North Coast is kind of going into lockdown, but it doesn't mean I write reliably everyday. Some days my word count is 0, other days it will be 4-10k and I really wish there was a more consistent in between.

But I wanted to let you all know I am working on it!

You needn't worry, Heartshine. You just stay safe and we'll be waiting patiently. Take care!

it's all alright Heartshine. as i always say. never take quantity over quality. the fact that you are with us and continue working on PHs is all I need to be here. Heh, even if youa abandoned it or changed to hiatus i'd stay for blogs or sth...
No matter how long it will take you to continue, and even if for some reason you abandoned this project, your little anxious pega' will always have a special place somewhere in the back of my mind. :raritywink:

And, I just reminded myself to finally write a proper, serious comment on that ealier blog of yours, sooo, I'm going. Cya then. :trixieshiftright:

Hi sweetie, we understand.
Everfree yes? Dinner?

Ya new chapter soon... Soon....

Totally understand. Remember self care too. But I will admit, I really look forward to reading your next chapter when it is ready.

Oh sure! And yeah, I'll be there! ... Also I am one day going to get through book 1 of Dead Tree! I keep going "I need to finish this so I can give Fiaura a review!" and then I get another crisis call. @.@

Thanks, and good luck! :)

Well another review would help. A couple of publishing companies have looked at it but have requested reviews before they will say yes and I only have the 2.

Well that's all I really need to hear, that you're working on it, or that you want to work on it. Hell, even if you say you're not I'll hold out hope, considering there are some stories that were silent for *FIVE YEARS*.

a part of me is stressing about whether or not the phone is going to ring with someone having the worst day of their life so far.

I’m not an expert but that doesn’t sound very healthy. If you’re constantly worrying about someone calling you, sooner or later it's going to affect your health and well-being.

As for Speak: Take your time. This is a hobby and you don’t have to rush it. If you’re reading Fanfic’s having patience is very important, because people are doing this in their free time. Besides you’re semi-regularly uploading new chapters, so I never felt I had to wait "too long" for a new chapter.

I'm gonna be a little hypocritical here and say something that I myself hardly ever listen to: it's okay if you take your time with writing your story. We understand that real life has to take priority, and that quality work takes time, even if one actually "feels" like doing it.

That being said I can imagine that hearing that from an x numbered person in line doesn't really help, I myself am kicking myself whenever I am taking too long to make a new chapter :twilightsheepish:

Also:

Some days my word count is 0, other days it will be 4-10k

:applejackconfused: Holy hell, 4-10k?! Wow, my personal best ever was 5k words, and only managed that once, years ago. Nowadays my usual word count per day is below 1k:facehoof: If, you know, it isn't actually a 0, of course:facehoof::facehoof::facehoof:
