Handy... though that "Total Countries Infected" value feels kind of ominous. Especially when video games have trained me to want X/Y readings to get as close to 100% as possible.

Please let me not be one of the 19 infected people in Alberta...

Neat! Thanks for sharing

I don't get why everyone is getting freaked out by something that is basically just a variation on the flu virus. And not even something bad like Spanish Flu, just regular annual flu. You've got bubonic plague cropping up in San Francisco and the yearly crop of death from flu across the planet, but this is what has people starting to hoard?

I just wish there could be an actual measured response instead of the bipolar "I will ignore it no matter how important" and "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE BUY UP EVERYTHING EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF" extremes.

Seriously, stop staring at the numbers (that are peanuts compared to annual flu deaths anyway) and biting your fingernails and just wash your freakin' hands more often. This is nothing new, calm the eff down.

Actually, this one has a combination of two factors that, together, make it very, very bad:

  • It has a lethality measured in % rather than ppm. Hardly a bubonic plague (measured in fractions rather than %), but still leagues higher than the common flu.
  • It is very easy to spread. Contrary to most viruses, it can survive in the environment for hours rather than minutes or even seconds.

With those two together, it has the possibility of becoming the single most lethal decease in real number of fatalities since the Spanish Flu.

Lethality in parts per million is for chemicals, bud, not diseases.

Oh, it spreads fast? Like the Bird Flu, Swine Flu, SARS, and the regular yearly flu that kills 650k on average? Yet for THIS one, THIS is the almighty world-ender? THIS is what has people panic buying random crap from stores, egged on by a media establishment that profits from the constant reporting of doom and gloom?

It sounds like bullshit to me. I've lived long enough to see this scenario of "scientists say this disease will KILL US ALL" before. The psychotic, hypochondriac paranoia this time is absolutely insane.

The only people dying are the usual vulnerable groups, and certainly precautions need to be made for them. Certainly we should have some concern and be willing to stay home and get well if sick. But the reaction to what is ACTUALLY happening is insanity, and the fear-mongering is absolutely disgusting.

Oh but I'm sure you're going to tell me you have a master's in microbiology or some other field that conveniently lets you tell me that I'm completely wrong, right? Go jump in a lake, you vulture.

I don't need fear mongering from Yank media.
I just need to see that this virus lethality is 3 to 6%, very contagious, and that the Mexican President decided to disregard all WHO recommendations and invited all people who wanted to go Europe- USA to spend two weeks in Mexico... Without bothering to quarantine anybody.

As I was saying: "Alitalia Flight lands in Mexico City. 15/75 passengers have fever and are quarantined; the rest are let go." https://www.la-saga.com/actual/en-aicm-aterriza-avion-proveniente-de-roma-hay-gente-con-fiebre

Except it's more like https://www.c-span.org/video/?470224-1/dr-fauci-warns-congress-coronavirus-outbreak-worse]1%. The 3.6% is from China, which is only reporting "serious" cases and not people who get COVID-19 but only have sniffles and thus don't get tested, which means their cases are not confirmed.

Not good, I'll grant you, but the thing is you're acting as if people don't die from diseases, or AT ALL. People die every day. This is not new, this is not novel, this is just another bug, another disease, and panicking over it when there have been far worse makes me wonder why the whole world's gone insane. Except I know why: fear-mongering.

So again, calm the eff down. Wash your hands, stay home if you're sick, by all means take reasonable precautions, but CALM. THE FUCK. DOWN. I'm sick of hearing how I should be cowering in fear. So go hoard your toilet paper, bud, and hide in your hole, but I'm not going to let you BS me into your hypochondria.

Cower in my hole?
Bud: I'm in downtown Cancun, watching a folk dance festival. Here's one I filmed 55 minutes ago:

If anything I'm worried for my mum, but I know I'll be fine.
