Ugh... Good and bad... · 3:31pm Feb 19th, 2020
Well, I got a whiff of some Bronydom drama last night and this morning.
On one hand, it's awesome that drama like this continues even months after the show has come to an end.
On the other hand, when it causes former staff to get involved, gets people banned from conventions, and makes favorite artists of mine consider stepping away from the fandom, it's not so awesome.
Twitter just needs to be shut down. That soapboxing, moral grandstanding, virtue signaling, dumpster fire shithole isn't doing humanity any favors.
I'm very sad to say I'm now reconsidering attending TrotCon in July.
Happy Wednesday morning, I guess.
Ceterum censeo Twittinem esse delendam.
Dare I ask what happened?
Just delete twitter, I did and I will tell you now I am 110% happier in life. I got rid of instagram, twitter, ..all my "social media" (I kept facebook because it's how my mother gets a hold of me). Honestly I really am far less stressed out, have more time in my personal life, and overall am a better person having quit all the social media crap.
Twitter needs to be dragged away and shot

People were saying that Cozy Glow getting put in a cage is symbolic of how people treat immigrants (despite the fact that she's a native born Equestrian and the immigrants were the heroes in that finale), and how they treat children is disgusting and promotes capital punishment (also despite the fact that Cozy Glow is objectively evil and deserves what she gets).
Also, yeah, Twitter is entirely unnecessary and only serves to ruin modern civilization.
5205954
Jesus Christ... I think some people are looking too deeply into this shit. I think they need to remember who the target demographic for the show was— do they really think the writers would write something like that in a show for young girls? Even if they were pandering to the older fandom, they wouldn't do something like that.
5205943
Yeah, I don't use them either (save for Facebook, which I use to keep in touch with people). I have Twitter and IG accounts, but I don't use them.

TV is a visual medium, and the pictures are what count. Put a kid in a cage in North America today and you know exactly what that image is going to resonate with, no matter the context.
5205958
But context to the scene is what matters and makes the difference between what extreme response someone would have. The difference between knowing why she's in there changes the meaning entirely.
5205958
Well then fuck 'em. If people are going to be butthurt over every little thing, crank it up to 11 and burn them out. If you make the butthurt crowd upset enough without caring, they'll eventually have little option left but to become apathetic and stop giving a damn.
5205961
Except context doesn't matter nearly as much as the picture flashed into our visual cortex.
5205938
Classicists and antiquity enthusiasts unite!
5205954
While I disagree with how Cozy was handled I don't think it had anything to do with modern politics. (And Tartarus' conditions were inhumane regardless of age of the offender.)
5205954
How did this lead to a TrotCon ban?
5205990
I'm unaware of what happened after the initial stuff, so I've got nothing for ya there.
Twitter is a breeding ground for extremism of every sort.
That said, I think it's fine to talk about the social ramifications of cartoons, but I don't have any context about what you saw or what happened. I don't know why this is "BronyCon drama" when BC is defunct, or how somepony got banned from another convention over it. I've run a convention before, and generally con staff don't wade into drama unless they absolutely have to.
I mean, when MFF banned Milo, they had good reason because he threatened the convention. Some furries naturally whined about freeze peach and virtue signaling, but the staff action had nothing to do with politics. It was about protecting the safety of attendees and providing a positive con experience for as many furries as possible.
5205997
Bronydom aka, Brony fandom.
This has nothing to do with Bronycon.
5205994
I don't even understand what you described. "People complained about Cozy Glow," okay, what does that mean? How did you connect an opinion on Twitter to BronyCon or TrotCon?
The current big issue I know about has been Anontheanon posting a racist-humor Applejack picture and people on both sides losing their shit over it, as well as a few actually racist bronies getting outed afterwards. I saw one person defend the image by saying "the picture is okay because pictures of Cozy Glow are worse because of immigrants in cages", which didn't make any sense, but I think they were just trying to straw man everyone who found the image distasteful as being nuts.
5205998
Oh! Sorry, totally misread that. Derp.
5206000
Because people are still mad that Cozy Glow got thrown in a cage in the first place and that She's now sealed in stone. People are mad that she's facing punishment for her actions that they say are grossly unnecessary.
So what exactly happened? Someone complained about Cozy Glow's treatment, but how does that lead to artists leaving, showrunners getting involved and convention bans?
5205954
5206040
Yeah, I'm not following any of this. I still don't understand why Yoshikage thinks what miles is saying has something to do with Cozy Glow when they don't know anything about a convention ban, yet miles isn't correcting them, so maybe it does? I've searched on Twitter and can't find anything of the sort.
Ahhh, Twitter.
You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
5206000
My reaction to seeing that applejack thing would have been to shrug and move on

might've been different circles i hang around but from what i saw an artist drew AJ basically as a slave owner.
5206371
No, that's the one. I mean yeah, there are some implications behind it, but nothing to get in a hissy fit over.
TrotCon is in July? I had thought it was sooner.
Twitter has become a haven for those who tend to cause drama. Though I will say it is most unfortunate that MLP FiM fans are acting without THE spirit of 'love' and 'tolerate'.
What brought me all-in to MLP was how 'open' and 'acepting' it was. I attended BronyCon for 7 years and lead a panel for 6 of those years. The panel was focused on how the show unites us despite our differences. We had a decent turnout each year and made a difference for a good number of people of all ages. Hearing people are acting out of spirit is just disheartening.
5206379
I dunno, its less implications and more blatant racism, ya know.
5206456
True. But still, I think going full-on SJW on this is a bit much. I think saying, "Dude, that's tasteless, WTF." and leaving at that would've been enough.
5206504
Considering a Nazi pony oc is a fairly common feature on derpi, you tell me.
5206551
Also true.
*Sigh*
What have we become?
5206708
Anytime we get this fucked up, I remind myself that this fanbase originated on 4chan.
5206709
5206708
Maybe we could've, hear me out this may sound crazy, but do a little more than go "dude, that's tasteless" and then leave it be til an actual nazi comes by and go "oh hey, this fandom stans nazis." and homophobia. and racism.
