me checking the dislike ratio on my new story

Glad to know bigotry is still alive and well in this fandom.

It's glad to see some of us didn't watch the same series as I did.

    So where I've been

Okay, uh... how do I begin this? Well, I suppose I should start with the obvious. Yes, I've been distracted. If you follow me on Archive that should be obvious. And if you don't, you totally should btw. Yes, I'm shameless.

Basically, if you don't make enough money -and Youtube will not say what enough money is- you lose you account. And as this probably will effect your Google Accounts...

...well, I can see a class action lawsuit coming down the line given this affects everyone, and the only reason people can't make the money they need to save their account is because YouTube screwed them over in the first place.

Imagine if you will, you have a job, and suddenly your files on Google Drive or wherever get terminated. Your presentations, everything. Picture that scenario.

A lot of hardworking people are going to get fired.

Seriously, what the fuck? I'm very interested to know the reasoning behind this masterful idea.

Now, I wonder if Microsoft will step in and do something about this, put in their own service alongside Twitch and offer a Youtube account. And before anyone asks, no you can't terminate your Youtube account... not unless you want to just terminate your google account as well. Oops?

Is this for people who make money off ad revenue, or for everyone?

What about teen/smallfry YouTubers like me? Who are dependant on their google account for social media stuff? I don't monetize my vids and I have barely any subscribers?.

As I said...

This is Youtube shooting itself in the foot.

5153238
Yeah, I'm in the same boat! So they're saying I need to make money off of YouTube to keep my account?!

*screams like Hulk*

5153239
So what? I delete my YouTube account?

That's a big no-no from me. I keep all my stories on my Google Drive, plus my offline music and some anime as well.

This is complete bullshit.

5153243
You can't. That is impossible. The only way to do that is to delete your Google Account. I don't need to say how that'll end.

5153245
So the only work-around is to somehow create a whole new Google Account?

5153245
OK. I uploaded a vid to attempt to rally my subscribers. But I don't know how that will go down. Brick, I don't want to come off as begging, but mind subscribing? The channel is Marcthelightspark elliott. I might need the subscribers........

HOWEVER, it could also mean this. I dug up this post.

Wow, this misinterpretation is going viral. Nobody is losing their accounts for getting little to no views. You’ll lose your account if you do something that causes sponsors to pull out of YouTube due to bad publicity. Seeing everybody get worked up over nothing is so annoying.

5153260

So if you do something really super offensive or something like that?

5153260
Oh, that makes a lot more sense.

5153262
Dug through Twitter tweets just to try and make sense of it all.

5153264
Yep, basically. If you cause your sponsors to pull out in essence... well, basically if you do something Logan Paulish.

5153266
..........

Guess I shouldn't have uploaded that rallying video so early then, eh? I'm an idiot.

Wait does this mean that if I want to keep my account (I don’t make videos) I need to make money to not have it deleted?!?!?

Man YouTube fucked up.

5153268
Eh, I might have done the same thing tbh. It is very easy to read this legal-speak this way.

5153269
See a few comments below. The initial reactions might have been a misinterpretation.

5153268
Yeah, you might wanna take that down...

5153271
So that means if I never posted anything on YouTube as in videos I don’t have to worry about my google account being deleted?

5153272
Yeahhhhh.......I'mma do that real quick.

5153274
Doesn't sound like it.

5153276
So I could possibly still lose my google account?

5153278
Possibly; but it sounds like it'd only happen if you do something really messed up.

Still worrisome that our Google Accounts are now at stake as well, though. If nothing else, that should definitely change.

YouTube has sadly declined rapidly over the past few years now. As of 2019, we can say that YouTube has definitely been screwing around with people. I watched Markiplier's video about this mess, and this is very depressing to see what YouTube has become now.

5153281
I won't deny that YT has been getting worse, but did you happen to see the update a few comments down?

5153280
I hope YouTube changes it’s actions.
Since my stories are all saved on google docs and I don’t want them to be deleted.
I still can’t believe that they don’t care about people’s google account being deleted

5153278

5153280
Basically, read it like this.

Say you do something stupid enough to cause your sponsors to pull out. Something stupid enough to cause bad publicity like filming a body in a certain suicide forest. If you cause Youtube to lose money on some stupid viral stunt, basically. Most likely, you won't lose your Google Account, as it'd take too much time and money to sift though millions of accounts for one channel making no money even with automation. They won't terminate those with little to low views as searching those out is a waste of time and money.

I'm just going to watch and wait and see what happens. Call me stupid or whatever, but I don't let paranoia rule my life at every turn.

Worrying about what-ifs is just going to eat away at your life. Trust me.
Panic when panic is actually necessary. Basically, don't invite trouble into your life until trouble actually comes. If there's something to panic about, we'll know soon enough.

Good advice.

5153282

Well, I just read all the comments on here, and I find this... sort of hard to fully understand. I know I'm not a YouTuber nor do I make videos on YouTube, but this is really scary for anyone to do something that could lead to a sudden termination of their account on YouTube and on Google.

So far, I've watched several videos, and not just Markiplier's, about others who have elaborated on this issue. I don't know what is going to happen as of now.

5153286
I don’t make YouTube videos so what happens then

5153289
You're not really affected.

5153288
Like I said, don't invite trouble unless trouble actually comes. Basically, we as the internet are doing what the internet always does over some outrage. We panic and rant and rave not always with the full facts before we eventually move on. I'll repeat this as well.

Some rando unrelated to internal youtube policies on twitter telling us about internal youtube policy that no outsider knows... Wait and see is a good option though.

This just seems another in the long line of youtubes decisions to finally try and turn a profit instead of the 4 billion per year loss (though that was in 2015 so probably increased by now, considering the various adpocalypses that happened).

Already they froze the balances of quiet a few "big" youtubers, telling them that their channels arent monetized anymore and that the money they gathered until then will be taken (plus ads still play on their videos, they just dont get a cut).

a lawyer's view on the matter:

5153287
I'm of the same mind. At the same time, I do plan on backing up all my data/content I store on Google (which I should probably have been doing all this time to begin with :\)

5153305
I don't even use my Google Account for much anyway outside of my Email and YouTube.

So apparently that clause has been in there for a while.

I can't say I approve of it-it's awfully vague-but it's not a new thing.

I never rely much on Google. The only time I made a Google account was because I was pretty much force to for school work.

And even with a short time using Google's tools, I was really dissatisfied.

That is why I recommend people using alternative to Google.

For Youtube, use Bitchute. It's a little step down for sure, but the platform is still growing. You can monetize your content and they even send you plates to commemorate passing certain threshold. You can also link it to Patreon, although I would recommend SubscribeStar as an alternative to the former.

For the search engine, I recommend DuckDuckGO. StartPage and Microsoft's Bing are also good alternatives.

For a cloud base storage, Mega offers the most space for their free subscription and people don't need an account to download stuff from it.

For the Google Docs suite, use Libre Office. The only downfall is there still no one I know who use the share function to multi edit a single document online.

For Gmail, try ProtonMail. It's a secure email service. Their servers are based in Switzerland and are fairly praise.

Tarbtano on the Bridge server gave his take on matters. Lemme quote:

Dr. TarbtanoToday at 3:16 PM

If I may weigh in.
1. Oh good God this could be very bad(edited)
2. To be fair, we might be seeing some cooperate language here. Sometimes they can't outright say what they intend and it might be the aim is to remove what is deemed, hateful or harmful content with an excuse. Still bad, but less so.
3. Alternate reading is, as youtube pays accounts to produce content, is this means, say you are paid 100 dollars a week by YT. And suddenly something happens where you are the most hated guy on the internet. Say, convicted of a horrific crime. Your videos get blocked or DOS'd, subscription count tanks, and now youtube is having to pay 100 dollars to essentially a dead account. It is "no longer commercially viable" and thus can be terminated.
It's likely, one way or another, still catering to just the big content creators.
If it really ends up blowing up, new platforms will rise.

5153301
Yeah, the problem is the damn thing's too vague to make heads or tails of.

5153340
But what about people like me? I'm not making any money of ad revenue, I've only posted two or three videos as of now, and I mostly just use it to comment/like/make playlists of my favorite things.

5153344
We don't know really. This is something that we are just going to have to watch and wait and develop.

5153342
If that's the case, I'd make that the focus.
I've been talking to people all week about this kind of problem.
Don't just show the problem. Point towards a solution or there's nothing really accomplished but the spread of online panic...which doesn't seem very difficult nowadays.
