GMBlackjack:

Tends to write giant, multiverse-spanning, metaphysical and self-referential epics that squash and stretch the ponies we know into places and shapes hitherto unseen.

I've always been a bit too pedestrian and literal-minded to enjoy that sort of stuff, but I've read bits and pieces of the author's work in my capacity as a pre-reader at Equestria Daily: Song of the Spheres, for instance, Broken Mirror, and the story I'm writing this blog about, The League of Sweetie Belles.

The story's concept is simplicity itself. Every universe, Pony, Human, AI, or What-Have-You, has a Sweetie Belle in it. Sometime in the past, several of these Sweetie Belles managed to meet and, as the story's description says, "decided they liked hanging out with each other." Things have gotten a bit more complicated since then with squads of Sweetie Belles exploring and patrolling the worlds beyond worlds up and down the ladders of existence. At its essential core, however, it's a fun yet harrowing tale about groups of the various Sweetie Belles out having peculiar adventures inside the universes of other author's fanfics.

GM contacted me a couple months ago and asked if some of his Sweeties could visit the universe of my story "Intellectual Property." I agreed, we tossed around plot ideas, GM did the actual writing, I made some suggestions, and now the thing's finished and posted as chapter 40 or so of the Sweeties continuing saga.

Ah, the joys of synergy...

It's always fun seeing other authors I enjoy collab with GMBlackjack. This was an especially delightful treat given the story in question. Thanks for helping bring it to fruition!

The Combinatorics Project did it first. :P

I did a very short homage to it in Farmer Bruener where they take inventory of the ponies who landed in Kansas and decide that Sweetie Belle was just double-counted so they ignore it. Short, simple, and onward to the next. :)

Do you remember which chapter that was?

I've never heard about that.

“We should be good there for the short term,” said Jon. “I called Pastor May and he’s got a few friends from our RV club bringing their units over, in addition to however many porta-potties Riley County Emergency Management brings. How many ponies are we talking about for the next few hours?”

“Two hundred and forty three,” said Grace without looking up from her writing for a moment, although she backtracked somewhat immediately after. “That’s a grand total, of course, including the two griffons, the changeling, and discounting the duplicated report we had of Sweetie Belle.”

It's a very old story that was highly entertaining if you like shipping, but had some issues, even back in the day.

I especially liked the last part with the journal of Pinkie and Dash trying to get back home with a cure. I would have also liked a more traditional chapter of that part but that was probably the most interesting part.
