A Trivial Pursuit S9E16 Review · 3:59pm Aug 17th, 2019
Time for more Twilighting!
I love the flip on Twilight's breakdowns with her being so thoroughly prepared that she is not freaking out at all because she is 100% confident she is prepared. Didn't notice during first airing, love the DJ-Pon 3 nightshirt.
"At least Applejack and Rainbow Dash aren't together. Team AppleDash is basically unstoppable." Stahp. Please.
This had me afraid it was gonna be another round of "Ponk is horribly mischaracterized", but actually no, they were fine for Pinkie, it was Twilight that got on nerves. Not her taking the trivia contest too seriously, that's fine. But Twilight gets so pre-occupied trying to coach Pinkie to answer questions she doesn't know that they keep missing out, even though Twilight knows the answer herself. She and Spike both bring up the idea of Twilight just answering on her own, but then Twilight decides to basically sabotage the other teams by pointing out minor infractions, and escalates it to purposefully getting Pinkie disqualified so she can team up with Sunburst. Then Sunburst gets the Conflict Ball too when he decides Twilight is too stressed to be trusted and started pointedly blocking from her buzzing in and then tries to get her disqualified too.
Twilight Snapple remains funny as always, and there's tons of great meme faces, but the taste is soured in this case because of what a horrible pony she's being.
So yeah, this episode is pretty bad on account of how awful Twilight is to everypony, not just Pinkie. I was expecting the cliched "Twilight keeps Pinkie from answering and the game comes down to a question only Pinkie can answer", and I would have preferred that old stock plot over what we got instead.
Agreed. A shallow plot and a self-defeating Twilight clutching the Idiot Ball with all eight limbs (counting tail and mouth) do not an enjoyable episode make.
If I didn't know any better, I'd think they wrote this just to make jokes about ship names.
Actually, they messed up on Pinkie too. She never noticed that Twilight delibertly got her disqualified, even though it happened in front of everypony! And at no point did she ever realize it, nor did Twilight ever apologize for doing so!
But everyone else got on my nerves too, no one was likeable the whole time. At times they seemed to just pull rules out of their asses, and the trivia wasn't anything worth getting into because it was all stuff we already knew but was hardly relevant to any overall plots.

Less Idiot Ball and more Jerkass Ball.
I'm sorry I jinxed it for you. D:
The real heck of this episode is that Twilight could have rung in for every single answer, gotten them all right, and Pinkie would have had tons of fun.

Nor a credible finale, neither.

I is, actually, catching up on a reactor's reactions to S8 - got to rewatch Road to Friendship last night and watching What Lies Beneath now.
I wonder if they should make a MLP edition of Trivial Pursuit and have that as part of a game time with friends.
