It's been a good three years since I last posted to FimFiction, or wrote fanfiction in general, but yesterday, while having writer's block, I realized that I needed something to get my creative juices flowing. So, I tasked myself in writing an entire short story in twenty-four hours or less, and realized that a fanfic was the perfect way to do that.
And so came "The Table Set." The story follows Sunset Shimmer on the night of prom. She wants to be excited, but no matter what she does, she can't seem to get into it. It's about feeling anxiety, having expectations of what to do or who to be, and where to find happiness in those moments of darkness we all slip into from time to time.
It's partly inspired by my own experiences in high school, going to prom and having to fight off depression. Sunset's story is not a direct transposal of my own; they're very different journeys, but parts of my journey were used to inspire and design the events in the story. I tried to make it feel as realistic and personal as I could, while also staying true to the characters and spirit of My Little Pony.
Everybody has felt anxiety at times, but how you deal with it determines who you are, and that's the core of "The Table Set." I'm proud of my 24-hour work, and glad to be back in the fanfiction world. If you would like to read it, the link is above. Enjoy!
