S.M.I.L.E. For The Camera! Character Guide · 4:14pm Aug 19th, 2019
A Series of Great Ideas (Or Not) was led by the Unicorn Squad, comprising of Shining Armor, Flam, Starlight Glimmer, and Rarity. But for the sequel, S.M.I.L.E. For The Camera!, I wanted to take a different approach. Since the premise of the story is "A Guys Night Out Gone Wrong," I chose to focus on five stallions who I thought would work well together, both comedically and realistically.
Shining Armor - Like the previous story, he's the main protagonist. This time around, he's fueled by love, since he fears his relationship with Cadance is ending, and he just wants to be with her again, no matter what it takes. He's the leader of the pack, with knowledge of survival skills and generally good instincts. However, he's prone to jealousy, especially in regards to Soarin. Since he's more emotional this story, he's also more prone to putting the group in crazy scenarios to satisfy his needs.
Flam - Flam acts as Shining Armor's best friend and roommate. Since Shining Armor's craziness got turned up this story, Flam is a little calmer and more rational. He just wants to spend time with Shining and cheer him up, often advising him and steering him towards what he thinks is best. His romantic feelings for Shining Armor are still in play as well. In the group dynamic, he's generally the leader of group bonding activities and resolving arguments. Flam is also great at talking himself out of most adverse situations.
Boomer - Boomer acts as comedic relief. After the events of the previous story, he's become pretty good friends with Shining and Flam, and they trust his smarts and skills, even if they don't always show. He's great at keeping the mood up, joking around, and sharing anecdotes, but is also pretty impulsive and prone to jumping into things without a plan. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's a trustworthy one.
Cheese Sandwich - Cheese is the wild card of the group. Almost always cheery, he's got boundless energy and the purest of intentions. His mane is full of all sorts of random objects, with provides the group with some useful resources. He sometimes freaks out the rest of the group with his quirks and strange fascinations with certain things, but proves to be a valuable addition to their team.
Soarin - Soarin is Shining Armor's nemesis in the story. Having knowledge of the kidnapping in the previous story, he doesn't trust Shining Armor. The two don't get along, and are often confrontational with each other, though Soarin isn't too fond of conflict. He's smart, and is the voice of reason within the group, reining them in when they're taking it too far.
So, that's the lead cast! Over the story, all five of them will have moments to shine and develop as individuals, and as a group. After all, the story is about them bonding and having to navigate through the craziness life has put them through once again!
