The Last Crusade S9E12 Review · 4:02pm Jun 15th, 2019
Time for the fandom to explode. Twice.
First - for the lesbian horses. It's barely a thing and they're part of the plot and there's nothing explicit, but it's cool they did it.
Second - At long last, Scootaloo's parents. I like their designs and I very much appreciate the episode thoroughly disproves Scootabuse by depicting the two as genuinely loving their daughter, they just don't get to see her much.
Beyond them, episode is good, but nothing spectacular. Being that this is the last season though, you really do have to wonder if they would make Scootaloo move, because if there was a time to write off characters, this is it. But she doesn't, she's gonna move in with her aunts who are moving to Ponyville, which would be cool if this wasn't the last season and there's the chance to see more of them. Beyond that, stock CMC comical filly antics that work fine for what they are.
Well, this feels like it's in the same boat as "Student Counsel" the aim is celebrating the CMC's growth and more or less marking the end of their character arcs. I kind of doubt they'd split up the CMC even in the final season after everything they've shown.
I just wish they could've at least hinted at this sort of family situation earlier. Even just a couple of lines in earlier episodes stating that Scootaloo's parents had jobs that kept them out of Ponyville, and others watched her in their place.
It is a nice testament to how far the three have come, from troublemakers to celebrated pillars of the community.
And yeah, Holiday and Lofty hitting full canon was nice.
Hooray for return of Babs Seed and Gabby.
Holiday and Lofty finally appearing in canon was awesome, even if this episode blew my headcanon out of the sky.
As a way of saying goodbye to my three fave characters, well... it did its job.
I bet it sucks to be Applejack right now. I mean, even the homeless orphan has parents! :V
...Shit, I need to write a fic.
