I’m going to forego the eye-rolling irony of linking “Candle in the Wind” for the guy: A Farewell to a Friend and Comrade · 4:57am May 10th, 2019
Alright, the news is making the rounds, but if this is the first you’re hearing about it feel free to take some time to let it sink in. Or, hell, put down or walk away from your screen entirely and just try to sort through the jumble of feelings you might have been sucker punched with.
Lord knows I did.
It has been said and it’s going to be said a lot, Mythril Moth was not the easiest guy to like. Is it one of the first things that should be said of the guy here? Well, who’s to say. But I was never one to overlook someone’s legacy and Moth was undoubtedly someone who’s gossamer wings were easy to ruffle and when that happened, he’d ruffle back.
But he’s also leaving over a hundred published stories here, to say nothing of his non-MLP work, and literally thousands of blog posts. Most of the later he just seemed to do because he was bored or maybe thought he just thought he could get a few of us to hang out with him and just have a little fun over something as still as one little moment in time presented without context.
Those stories, those posts, and the feelings they’ve inspired and elected are a legacy that easily eclipses his occasional, or even somewhat ever-present, bullheaded nature.
As for me, he somehow never did me a wrong turn, except for maybe an errant comment on a piece here or there, but at least it was coming from a fellow writer. Though, I did kinda hold a rivalry for the dude for eventually surpassing my follower count. I always hoped to someday reclaim a count higher than his, and it’s still a very real possibility that I will. But that’s going to be gut-wrenching and the lingering feeling hollow at this point.
And I hope the bastard is smiling about that because I can’t help but laugh a little imagining his reaction.
I think Moth would take a look at the scene we where all making on his behalf and then maybe tell us all to “MOURN HARDER!” and maybe even boo us while being unable to hide a smirk. Or maybe that’s just how I chose to remember him.
And that’s okay.
He was many different things to many different people, but he undeniably resonated with many of us in a positive way. I guess all that can really be said is the man and his work will be missed. Missed by more than maybe the rare few who can’t even give him their begrudging respect at the end of it all. We should all endeavor to do the same, flaws and all.
I know his work would occasionally inspire me. Especially the gem, Trixie and Spike go down the hooooole!
And more than that, I’ll miss your comments on my works, my friend. They weren't always the most inspired, but sometimes it was just nice to see a familiar, baffled face.

So here’s to Moth. May he go to a place where cute girls overshare their personal information constantly, the anime is always entertaining, and there’s no shortage of ridiculous screenshots to be had. May his work continue to make new readers laugh, cry, and feel for years, decades, and centuries to come and have the old readers reflect on the man and remember him with a smile, a chuckle, and maybe just the slightest of a head shake.
Like it or not, it's going to be a lot quieter in many people's feeds.
He. Will. Be. Missed
Y'know, now that I think on it, I think you might be right. He seemed like the kind of guy that would take his own passing in stride and tell us all to "suck it up," or something along those lines. Shit-eating grin and all.
I'll remember him for being a great, honest, real man among us.

Here, here.
well.............. one of his profile ones said “when i die i’ll leave an EXTREMELY PLEASANT smell”............ was he a fan of dark humor? i’ll say so yes, :/ also, i managed to get myself blocked on his stories and he didn’t lift it before he died, shet, can someone do that please? zef maybe?
Here's to MythrilMoth. He provided countless hours of laughter and joy. May he rest in peace.

Actually, his profile used to say, "I shall never cease to be entertaining. Even when I die, I will leave an EXTREMELY entertaining smell!"
I'm glad he changed that to his present profile. That would have made all this harder.
HE DIED!? Now I feel bad for my earlier comment.
...Whelp, may his spirit continue to find things to do and find joy in being the best that they can be.
Thanks for the stories, Moth. May you find the next world (Preferrably a nice version of Equestria) to be to your taste.

Yea, it would, it would’ve also made it ironic kinda,
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, else I might never have known.
(I passed it on to my local ponythread as well, since I suspect that, like me, more than a few of them may have been readers of his as well.)
An unexpected, great loss.
*salutes*
I never new him but r.i.p does he got any stories I can still read
All we can do for him now is honor him by writing stories he would have liked.
I like this.

His collection is here. As mentioned in the blurb above, I'm partial to Trixie and Spike go down the hooooole!

sPxHoLEic was the first story I ever Commissioned, and was thanks to that Series. When I heard the news, I knocked on my brothers door, and just needed a hug while I was a Blubbering mess.
He was an awesome person. And the world's missing out with him gone.
