Friendship is Failure Characters (Strings)

Strings is a Pegasus Pony. He is a singer, songwriter, musician; known best for writing songs about romance, tragedy, and heartbreak. He is also a hopeless yet depressed romantic, as is hopelessly in love with Princess Cadance, though he knows they can never be.

Friendship is Failure #4: Love doesn’t work that way.

When Strings was quite young he had bad issues with his temper and would often get angry at many things. The main reason for this problem was that his busy, workaholic parents never seemed to have time for him and neglected him often. (They even named him Strings, simply because they were too busy to really want to brainstorm names)

Strings grew up without much support, or love in his life, and he had very few friends.

One day, while visiting Canterlot Palace on a school fieldtrip, he jumped out of a high window, to retrieve his backpack which was thrown out by his bulling classmates, but being a young and highly unskilled flyer at the time, Strings crashed to the ground, injured himself and passed out.

He awoke later to find himself in the care of Young Princess Cadance who found him and nursed him back to health. Strings fell madly in love with her due to her kindness in helping him, and her soothing voice.

Strings never forgot Cadance and her kindness, and he soon formed a pen-pal relationship with her asking her for advice on life, almost treating her like a mother-figure more than a crush.

Strings felt he had something special with her, and as he got older, his temper issues faded and as his feelings for Cadance grew stronger and stronger, he began to finally understand love; something he had never before felt.

Strings began to use his budding love for Cadance as inspiration to write up songs and learn to play music. He never wrote songs directly about her, or even mentioned her name, but form these songs spawned his music career. He had many, many gigs, and would often perform at Canterlot Palace where he would meet up with Cadance. She would congratulate him on his success, and it was there that he would thank her for all the kindness and good advice she ever gave him.

It was at this time that Strings realized and dubbed Cadance as his one and only love, but unfortunately, when Cadance was officially crowed Princess, knowing he was a lowly commoner, Strings knew he couldn’t he even try to confess his feelings for her. He also discovered Cadance was engaged to marry Shining Armor at the Royal Canterlot Wedding.

All the warms feelings Strings had used to feel were turning cold and unbearable. He refused to attend the wedding, saying that he had another performance, when really he just couldn’t bear to see the only pony he ever loved married to another!

After King Sombra’s resurrection and defeat, he moved to The Crystal Empire to try and put some distance between himself and Cadance, feelings it would help him to let go of his feelings for her, only to discover to his dismay that she was to rule the kingdom, which meant he would always be near her and see how happy she was with her husband, which caused him deep sadness.

For two whole years, Strings kept his feelings for Cadance a well-guarded secret. No one was to even remotely guess of his feelings for her, fearing that public knowledge of this revelation would cause serious embarrassment and humiliation to both himself and Cadance, and it would possible upset Cadance and cause her to feel concern for him, which he did not want, whether the two valued each other as friends or not.

Hater: If she’s your friend she’d understand.

Strings: “Perhaps… but that’s a risk I don’t intend to take!”

No matter how jealous or upset Strings felt, he did not wish to bring any harm to Cadance’s life, knowing she was happy with her marriage and he did not wish to upset it a bit, even if it meant giving up any chance for his own happiness.

As Strings condition worsened, he felt himself slipping into despair, unable to sing happy songs and only do songs for despair and heartbreak. He would spend sleepless nights awake, and he never tried to date other ponies, not even ones who did have crushes on him, as he had no interest, felt that he could not give them the love they deserved, and wished no other pony in his life.

Finally fed up with the direction he had taken, on the advice of a psychologist, he decided to abandon his music career and move far away from the empire as he could, fearing the longer he stayed the worse his condition would become.

He refused to participate in the upcoming Hearts and Hooves charity ball, organized by Cadance and Shining Armor, and telling them flat out that he refused, but still did not reveal his feelings to Cadance. He did however, in kindness, donate a large sum of money to the charity anyway.

Twilight Sparkle and co eventually met up with Strings’ old friend Sun Rae whom had deep feelings for her friend, Strings (it is unknown how Strings and Sun met and became friends)

Realizing the pain and depression Strings was suffering, they believed Sun to be the one he had feelings for, and made attempts to pair the two together, even enlisting Cadance’s help to help him recognize his love for Sun, and to help Sun find her courage to confess her own feelings for him.

It was only then discovered, when Cadance was unable to make her spell work that she discovers that String is in love, not with Sun, but she herself, which stunned herself, Twilight and the others.

With this revelation, and Cadance being the reason Strings was moving away and abandoning his career, they and Sun confront him as he about to board his train and leave the empire, where it is revealed they know his secret.

Sun scolds Strings for not giving her a chance at a relationship, but her anger fades into begs and pleas for him not to go. Strings, though feeling bad to discover Sun’s feelings for him, sadly declines her offers, stating that he only has feelings for Cadance and therefore is unable to give Sun the love she needs and that she deserves better than a pony who cannot and does not wish to love her.

Twilight scolds Strings on abandoning his career, only for Strings to inform her that he cannot stay and continue on a path that will only bring him more pain and misery than comfort and joy.

Sadly, the girls all respect his wishes, and Strings leaves Sun with his white scarf as a memo, and leaves the empire to start his new life somewhere far away.

Strings is last seen at his new home, far, far away, sitting in a tree, contemplating over his depression as he continues to recover and sings a sad song “It might be you” as Hearts and Hooves day passes.

*OUTSIDE FIC*

I created Strings and his whole abandoning people and this crushing love story as a way of venting steam of Things Change from Teen titans… and how Terra dumped Beast Boy.

I making the ponies understand what the pain of rejection is. His pain is now YOUR pain.

People often say that Strings is being selfish for what he’s doing, perhaps he is, but then again, if he’s being selfish (He won’t date Sun simply because he doesn’t want her) then Terra is Selfish too (She dumped BB in cold blood, didn’t want to remember him or even be friends with him… all just to live a normal life)

And if you try to tell me some bull: “But Terra had an excuse. She just didn’t want to remember all the lives she hurt. Or risk being rejected by others. Strings was just a jerk simply because he did not get the girl.”

My response to you: “Oh? At least Strings was willing not to forget Sun. Even though he didn wish to be with her, he was still willing to write her and keep in contact with her. Whereas Terra kicked BB to the curb and wanted NOTHING to do with him ever again?”

And you still insist Strings is the bigger jerk and what Terra did to BB was different.

Me to you: “Congratulations, you have just rewritten the laws of romantic relationships. BOTH couples failed as the dumper was being selfish and cold. What Terra did was equally, if not WORSE than anything Strings did… end of story.”

Then there’s this stupid people say that I’m FORCING Terra to be with BB, like it’s some obligation, or she’s a trophy to be had, but now they’re calling me out because Strings dumped Sun and didn’t give her a chance… way to flip-flop.

Terra’s not really under ANY obligation to be with BB. It’s not a law, it’s just what I want, that’s all. What I’m doing to her in fics, is making her feel and realize that she made a big mistake in dumping BB like that. This is also backed by the episode itself… Terra had very regretful looks on her faces, especially when she ultimately told him “Things Change, Beast Boy… the girl you want me to be is just a memory.” And she STILL retains this expression up to her final lines, which suggests the possibility that she is regretting what she is doing, and knows that she’s hurting him and herself as well.

In real life, people can admit they made mistakes like this and realize they really DO want to be with that person after all. It’s not an obligation; it’s a choice… a realization.

But getting back onto topic: If Terra’s n obligation to be with BB… then under WHAT obligation is Strings to be with Sun…? As Strings told her “I can’t change my feelings simply YOU want me to.” (Aware BB and Terra are in the same field)

So… people call me out and mock me for WANTING BB and Terra to be together, and then complaining their not together, but then they turn around and STILL mock me when I make the same things happen to Strings and Sun? Very hypocrite, and we already covered all this up there… and no amount of mocking, insulting or even valid reasons will change the facts…

BOTH relationships crashed because the dumper was being selfish and cold to the victim. End of story.

Now to wrap this up, I’m going to respond to a few things my haters said due to their chronic idiocy and whine fests because they can’t respect alternate outcomes or feelings. (Hopefully, those you UNAFFECTED by their toxic fumes can learn a thing or two)

Hater: You’re willing to ruin your career on something as stupid as this?! What the hell is wrong with Mykan?

Because I WANT it that way. It’s not my philosophy, its personal preference. Besides, is it really fair to have Strings continue his career when it’ll only cause him suffering and despair? I think you’re just saying you don’t give a damn of his feelings at all, and there for you have no right to argue his decisions.

Hater: She got married, you didn’t GET OVER IT! Plenty of fish in the sea!

Mykan: There you again, “Get over it and move on” it’s not a law or requirement.

And as for “Plenty of fish in the sea” Hate to break it to you (Oh, wait… no I don’t) but I can easily put a stopper in that too.

1: What if your sea only HAD that one wish to catch? (You let it get away… Game’s over)

2: If there ARE plenty of fish in the sea, what if the fisherman is only looking for ONE particular fish? What if he only baited his hook FOR that fish? What if the other fish don’t nibble on his line?

3 (My favorite and most often preferred preference):

There may be plenty of fish in the sea, but the fisherman has the option to THROW BACK his catch if he is not satisfied with it.

That’s my preference, if the guy can’t be with the girl he really wants… well he’d rather be alone. (With or WITHOUT hissy fits)

That means…

-No dating
-No returning feelings
-Reject any and all women who throw themselves at you
-Die alone with no family.

In other words… even if other fish bite on the line, you can just throw that thing right back into the deep, completely uninterested. It’s that simple.

This is my world (Fanfiction) I make the rules and I decide the outcome, and naturally… if I had written Strings had dated Sun, and things were starting to turn round for him

You guessed it… I’ll do EXACTLY what I did to Beast Boy, and destroy him from out of nowhere.

That’s what you get for upsetting me, and becoming something I don’t want you to be in such a way.
