Road to Friendship S8E19 Review · 6:28pm Aug 20th, 2018
I need redemption for the latter half of the season after Episode 20, and this is the only one left I'm even moderately hyped for. Please be good!
Somewhere, Sunset Shimmer is fuming over the show hijacking her trademark fanfic title.
This is a very enjoyable episode, it's an episode of Starlight and Trixie being Starlight and Trixie, giving us shipping fuel, getting on each other's nerves, playing off each other great as always. My only critique is that the antagonism with the Saddle Arabian guy was kinda forced, I appreciate he wasn't an actual villain, he was just a guy who unknowingly created a conflict between the two and didn't realize what he'd done. My problem with it is that I have no idea why he wants Trixie's wagon so much that he'd trade his much bigger, nicer one for it, and then initially refuse to trade it back. This was manufactured conflict, Starlight and Trixie getting on each other's nerves while on the road together was enough. But I do like Trixie's side of it, that she's attached to it even if it is cramped and broken down.
"You two have real chemistry together" - Trust me Cadance, we've noticed.
Wasn't it a plot point in another episode that Starlight has nothing to do as guidance councillor? <insert "Great continuity!" joke here>
Song was fine, it's fun and bubbly.
The hankerchief gag was fun.
Overall, best episode of the back half of the season so far.
Second episode I watched this season and definitely the best so far. Only major complaint I had is that the rocket figurine didn't feature! Either that scene was cut or it's for a scene later this season or next.
Perhaps her workload ramped up as the school year got deeper and deeper into the semester.
Trixie and Starlight are the best pair on the show right now. I just like the dynamic of these two trying so hard to be the same kind of good friends the Main 6 are only to fail spectacularly and having to figure out a way to make the friendship work their own way.

The kind of good friends the Mane Six say they are but demonstrably are not.

Well at this point the main 6 have graduated to a family which means lots of petty squabbles.
Agreed, this is my favorite episode of the back half of season 8. Regarding the Saddle Arabian fellow, I just assumed he was a big fan of Trixie's and offering her his trailer in exchange for hers would have been a boon for him (I own The Great and Powerful Trixie's original trailer! kind of thing), plus he may have wanted to do something good for her since he was such a fan. We've seen fellow bronies drop piles of cash on miniature figurines that will sit on our desks, so this doesn't feel like too far of a stretch. Just my own thoughts, of course.
If you traveled as much as him and Trixie have, you'd probably kill at the chance of being able to trade for an equally comfy wagon that weighed half as much while being able to carry all you need.
That was also showcased with the breaking vines and Starlight attempting to levitate the wagon.
The guy had his reasons for not wanting to drag what once just looked like a good and lavish idea and went with a more modest and practical choice.
He's no showstallion and no where near as sentimental as Trixie nor seems very materialistic about stuff. Just a stubborn stallion looking for easier accommodations on his travels.

Very good points
I was hoping there was like a treasure map in Trixie's wagon or something to explain things.
Me and my friend kc talked about that, and the most likely reason was he wanted a smaller cart much like a human would want a smaller car in our world. And it played to how Starlight sees a short term solution, for a long term problem as she struggles to drag the larger cart home.
The entire season, if you ask me! :D They finally made a good one!
