[Review/Recap] Miraculous Ladybug Season 2 Episode 10: "Sapotis" (SPOILERS) · 5:08am May 2nd, 2018

When Alya's energetic little sisters refuse to behave, Hawk Moth transforms them into a menace so great that Ladybug is forced to seek help from Master Fu, resulting in the birth of a third Miraculous hero in Paris: Rena Rouge.

Marinette is having a sleepover at Alya's. Alya's little sisters Etta and Ella are excited for a promised outing to the amusement park the following day, and they refuse to go to sleep. The hyperactive twins are constantly getting out of bed and bouncing around the house, drinking up the juice or putting on cartoons to watch, and every time Alya catches them, they claim, "It wasn't us, it was the Sapotis!" Alya warns them that if they keep acting up, they'll be punished, but they refuse to listen, so she calls off their trip to the amusement park. Dejected and upset, they get into a fight over a propeller hat.

Hawk Moth has sensed their bratty tantrum, and rather hypocritically Akumatizes them with the promise of being able to do all the things the grown-ups tell them they can't do. Ella and Etta become Sapotis, mischief-making imps that multiply when they eat--and brother do they eat. Marinette and Alya quickly find a small herd of Sapotis tear-assing around the apartment and explosively breeding. Then, some of them escape out into Paris.

While Alya chases after them ineffectually, Marinette goes off to find a place to transform. Ladybug quickly discovers that taking and breaking the hats will dissipate the fake Sapotis, but this leaves the problem that only the real Sapotis has the Akuma--and they're replicating faster than she and Chat Noir can deal with. After fruitlessly fighting the Sapotis for a while, Ladybug's Lucky Charm gives her a teapot. She has no idea what to do with it, but it does remind her of a similar teapot she's seen elsewhere. She leaves Chat Noir to fight alone for a while, promising to return once she has an answer to the problem.

Marinette visits Master Fu and tells him the Lucky Charm led her to him. Master Fu suspects that the universe is telling them it's time to release another Miraculous into the world--but only temporarily, as it's dangerous enough having the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous out there full-time. He opens the chest with the Miraculous and reveals not only the Fox and Bee on the top row, but a number of slide-out drawers containing Miraculous we've never known existed until this episode--all based on the Chinese Zodiac.

Master Fu tells Marinette to think of someone trustworthy who will be an asset in battle, and choose a Miraculous to bestow upon that person temporarily. Marinette hesitates for a moment before choosing the Fox, then leaves.

Ladybug finds Alya and offers her the Fox Miraculous, asking her to become a superhero for this one battle, to help save Paris from Sapotis and her sisters from Hawk Moth. Alya meets Trixx, the Fox Kwami, and transforms using the Miraculous.

Ladybug and the transformed (and SUPER enthusiastic) Alya race toward where Ladybug left Chat Noir, joining the fray just as he's about to be overwhelmed. Alya introduces herself as Rena Rouge, and Chat Noir and Rena Rouge develop an immediate easy rapport. With the three heroes united, Ladybug uses her Lucky Charm again and comes up with a plan. Rena Rouge is treated to the spectacle of Ladybug assembling a random collection of junk to use in her complicated scheme, one which relies entirely on Rena Rouge's special power, Mirage. Using her Mirage power, Rena Rouge creates the illusion of a grand, flashy, noisy amusement park, which draws the attention of all the Sapotis. Hawk Moth pleads with his minions to ignore the illusion, because it's a trap, but they ignore him and walk right into the trap. As they pass through the alley where Ladybug is waiting, she sends all their hats flying into a trash bin Chat Noir and Rena Rouge are holding. Once they've collected all the hats, Chat Noir uses his Cataclysm to burn down the whole thing, releasing the Akuma. Ella and Etta are returned to normal.

Chat Noir goes his own separate way, but Ladybug reminds Rena Rouge that she promised to return the Miraculous. Alya's transformation times out before Ladybug's, and Ladybug pleads with her, but Alya is hesitant to give it up, trying to make a case for keeping it. With no time left to argue, Ladybug ducks out of sight to transform back, dejected that Alya broke her word. But a moment later, Alya reaches around the door and places the Miraculous on the ground, then withdraws.

Marinette goes back to Alya's place, where the sleepover resumes--with Alya nearly excitedly blabbing her outing as Rena Rouge, but then stopping herself and making up a lame excuse about her battery dying. Meanwhile, Hawk Moth is frustrated by this latest failure and the appearance of a third superhero--but he's gained a small victory from this latest defeat:

He now knows there are more Miraculous in Paris...and probably a Guardian too.

If you've got a hot bone for Alya, this is your fanservice episode. Alya spends half the episode in pajama shorts that show off her sexy legs and the rest in a skintight fursuit. Unff.

I mean, what can I say? We got a hilarious spoof of Gremlins, we got a new superhero, and we got nonstop Alya fanservice. What more can you want? 10/10.

If you've got a hot bone for Alya

I just wish all the good art out there of Alya didn't show her with Adrien, more often than not cuckolding (or would it be reverse cuckolding?) Marinette.

Clearly you have the hot bone for her. :trollestia:

Course one wonders when might be the time for more full-time heroes in Paris.

Seriously? Most of the porn I find of her is WITH Marinette.

Also, I wonder just what happens when more than one Miraculous are active at once. I've seen a fic or two explaining it

Umm...confusing wording there, since there are FOUR active Miraculous on a continuing basis in canon (Ladybug, Black Cat, Butterfly, Turtle). Wanna be a little more clear here?

From Wikipedia "A cuckold is the husband of an adulterous wife." meanwhile, also from Wikipedia "A cuckquean is a wife with an adulterous husband." So the popular term of "cuck" or its various other derivatives works both ways.
Though to really apply they'd need to be married but when has something as trivial as semantics mattered to some fans?

So I've not actually watched this show yet, I'm the sort of guy that likes to read "spoilers" before I watch slash read things (most of the time, some things are better going in blind). Reading your various reviews has made me slot it into my watch queue... soonish. Real Life is not giving me mich free time as of late.
Anyways, I'm curious as to who has Turtle as I don't think you've ever mentioned it in a review. Is it Master Fu? (Obvious choice there but I just want confirmation.)

Ri2

Wait, are you implying there are people who aren't attracted to Alya?

4852040
Shit right, I meant I wonder what happens when too many Miraculouses are active at once. I recall one fanfic where it's revealed that tears into some kind of monster realm start popping up

Since Marinette temporarily chose Alya to wield the Fox miraculous, makes me wonder if Adrien will end up needing to pick Chloe to wield the Bee miraculous if the danger is too much for him and Ladybug alone. Or if it's Marinette who once again has to choose I wonder how the situation will be leaving her no other choice but to pick Chloe.

4852066
I'm not sure if it's been specifically mentioned in canon, but I'm assuming the Turtle Miraculous is the one Master Fu has, yes. Up until the beginning of canon it had been the only active Miraculous, before Hawk Moth activated the Butterfly Miraculous and jumpstarted the plot.

4852066
Yes, Master Fu has the Turtle, but it's going to be passed on to Nino in the near future.

4852085
That's fanfiction. You're on a fanfiction site RIGHT NOW. You should KNOW BETTER.

4852093
I admit to being a bit curious about that as well, but there's one logic hole in having Adrien choose a Bee: He hasn't even met Master Fu yet. He has no idea Master Fu is even a thing.

His Kwami being a turtle kinda gives it away, that and the Turtle being one of the Miraculous NOT in the chest...

4852169
More than anything, I want to see the Chinese Zodiac Miraculous in action. I mean, mine year was the year of the Pig. I want to see if that's a joke miraculous or secretly a kick-butt one.

4852169
Fair point, just a thought wondering what happens when too many are active. Also I guessed Nino would receive Turtle. Hmm, wasn't the original premise of Miraculous Ladybug a team show?

You said it, not me, but oh yeah... Definitely can't wait for more Rena Rouge, especially since Alya's been one of my favorite characters even before we knew she was gonna be a miraculous bearer.

4852093
My personal guess is that Chloe won't be chosen but will accidentally receive her miraculous, and it wouldn't surprise me if that involves her stealing it off Marinette or something.

Never realized that so many people are attracted to Alya :rainbowderp: The more you know??? :rainbowlaugh:

I totally screamed when Alya transformed, it was so thrilling to watch, and Trixx just became my new favorite Kwami. So proud of her when she gave back the Miraculous, and I didn't think she would! I dearly hope she and Trixx will work together again...now I'm very curious about Chloe and her Bee Miraculous. How this will turn out is a mystery indeed.

4852169
Man, I'm looking into the plot all wrong. I was really under the assumption that more Miraculous had been missing than the Butterfly Miraculous--and therefore not in the chest along with the others.

4852263
There ARE two Miraculous "missing"--the Butterfly and the Peacock. Hawk Moth has them both. At the moment, the Peacock appears to have something to do with Emilie Agreste.

4852304
Huh. And I thought it was more than just those two. Well, now I know.
