    River City Equestria Girls?

Seriously, that's Pinkie Pie on the left, and Rainbow Dash on the right. Tell me I'm wrong.

I will not write a fanfic about the two of them getting into all the fights.

    Probably.

An "I don't have livejournal anymore" sort of update.

    It snowed yesterday.

Which just reminded me how much I don't like winter. It wasn't even a bad snow, just enough of a dusting to linger for a little bit. First one of the season. And I even had the day off from work, due to my schedule, so it's not like I had to do anything ...

    So I didn't.

    Happy Halloween!

So yeah. Despite various distractions (Steam had Darkest Dungeon for UNDER FOUR BUCKS), I've managed to hammer out a ridiculously shippy conclusion to the self indulgent Rarijack story I started.

So that's fun? I gave myself a deadline to finish things on Oct 31, so that's what I did, dangit. Hopefully you guys will enjoy.

An authorial update (and announcement)! · 1:47pm Mar 26th, 2018

(In case anybody cares).

I'm currently reading George MacDonald Fraser's Royal Flash, the pastiche of The Prisoner of Zenda, which in turn inspired The Prisoner of Zebra. It's kind of interesting, however, in that Royal Flash is the second book in the series, so Flashman is a huge bastard-- later books have him kind of mellow out a bit. In turn, The Prisoner of Zebra is more influenced by the movie adaptation of Royal Flash than anything (which makes sense, as I made it a point to watch the movie as research before I started on the project).

So yeah. The movie's a lot sillier, which means The Prisoner of Zebra is a lot sillier-- which makes sense because magic horse cartoon, and all. Just an interesting little thing I figured I'd share.

In other, slightly less navel-gazing news, I've got an announcement! I've finally pulled the trigger, in that I've decided to go to a pony con. Woooo? More specifically, Everfree Northwest, since I heard somewhere that it has a lot of a fanfic focus. That, and I've never been to Seattle before, so ... uh, well, I dunno, maybe I'll drink a bunch of coffee and listen to some grunge if things go sour for whatever reason.

I'll admit, I'm just slightly nervous-- I mean, I've been to larger cons before, with a broader focus. Just never a pony con before. And just a glance at the Featured Box and/or some of the other fandom content out there has me just a biiiiit leery of obnoxious teenagers being, well, obnoxious. Kids, off my lawn, etc(tm).

Though! Perhaps in an effort to make EFNW super-awesome, I'm giving some thought to hosting a panel, because I am entirely too excited for the chance to ramble on about fanfiction and metatext in a vaguely academic sense. Probably something about comedy in fanfiction, since that's what I do.

This said, looking at the panel submission form, I'm already getting 'oh crap who actually would go to this?' kind of thoughts. Especially considering I've never hosted a convention panel before-- then again, I'm more than used to talking in front of groups and sounding like I know what I'm talking about.

Really, the best solution would be just to piggyback on somebody ELSE'S panel. But, well ... I have no idea who else is going to EFNW and/or running a panel there. Which, uh ... maybe the whole dozen people reading this blog know someone who's going?

But yeah, either way, I'm hoping it'll be fun! Any of you fine folks going?

Go you! Cons are a lot of fun. :pinkiehappy:

I wish I could go to cons.

Sweet
I just picked up Royal Flash randomly at a used book store two weeks ago. I'm going to read zenda first though, since it's free on Amazon

See you there. My wife has put up a fierce fight, but I'm planning on being there despite her best efforts.

Host a panel! I'll watch :V

Hm, I wasn't planning to go to EFNW, but...

I'm gong to be on a number of panels at Everfree Northwest.

We should definitely hang out.

Hey, neat! What are you doing panels on? Anything I might be able to help with?

I'm not actually in charge of the panels; that would be Heartshine, the writing track lead. I'm not sure what she needs help with/if we're short-handed on anything, but you could give her a poke and find out.

I'm on a number of panels. There's a shipping panel I'm on, as well as one about editorial feedback. One about conflict, and one about villains. And I think my name is on one about Writer's Block, but I'm not sure if I actually am qualified for that one at the moment. Clearly I'd better write a bunch of stories before the con.
