New chapter for Her Collar, Her Love is up. Some more thoughts below.
It's hard to put into words how I feel about this update. There were a lot of things leading up to it. Things that, on the surface, seem unrelated, but that's far from the case.
Lemme see...
I'm off my anti-depressants. I'm free of pharmaceuticals! And... Well after close to 2 years of being on the stuff (the longest that I've ever done) life feels so much more acute to me now. The first week, I couldn't watch my favorite drama shows without my body breaking out into violent shivers from the adrenaline. Music, which I've always enjoyed, had lost its shine under the meds. Now songs affect me far more deeply.
This emotional openness made it easier for me to connect with my writing, even amid the dramatic changes going on in my life at the moment. In fact, I'd say my real life challenges pushed me to write again, as a way to cope.
You see, hubby and I are moving across the country again. We're breaking our lease, pulling up stakes, and leaving behind my hometown. Again.
It's all for the best, and I've long since accepted this, but hoo boy... when the reality of us being unable to make it in California anymore became clear, I was in full grief mode.
So 1) I got off meds, and that made me have more feelz, 2) heavy life changes chased me back to writing.
HCHL wasn't even my first stop. I went back and updated my original fantasy story for the first time three years, including one other non-MLP fanfic I've been hiding on Archive Of Our Own. And somehow, I don't know how, I just looked at HCHL and said, "YOU! I want to take you to the gay bar--!"
...Well, no. That isn't quite how that happened. Basically, my success in one story led me to be nostalgic about another, which has snowballed from there.
In case you're worried that this is all I've got and you won't be seeing any other updates for a while, rest assured that I have another (even longer) update waiting in the wings for HCHL. It's kind of scary territory. I'm deviating a bit from my original plans. I tried to get in touch with Troublesome Beast for his excellent contributions, only to learn he'd taken a break from writing due to life stuff. Haven't heard back from him, but in case he chips in, I'll update the chapter with his additions.
Rambly author's note is rambly. Basically, I just hope you guys like this update. The next one should be coming soon! With any luck, by this weekend.
Scarlet and I were all "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" when we saw the new update. My first kink senpai is back ;_;
