The End · 7:43am Dec 16th, 2017
Tonight I wrote “The End” at the end of To Serve In Hell.
Thematically relevant, as unfinished fics are like fates worse than death?
What does this mean?
- I owe tons of people tons of stuff from the last month and a half that I’ve been (mostly) heads-down focused on this (well, this and the Writeoff). I apologize for not keeping up on that at all, and I’m gonna start paying that down ASAP.
- I’m setting a goal of getting the rest of To Serve In Hell posted in 2018. There’s a shed-load to edit—over 63K words right now, with a bit more yet to come. We shall see whether my all-star prereaders are good with this or not. But as of right now, that’s the goal!
- WRITING SERIAL NOVELS IS TERRIBLE AND I SINCERELY PRAY THAT BY THE GRACE OF GOD I SHALL NEVER BE LED INTO THE DELUSION THAT I SHOULD EVER UNDERTAKE ANOTHER ONE (I now have even more respect for people who can write that way—but I’ve learned through this experience that I can’t)
- I am friggin’ going to go friggin’ pass out now because I am friggin’ really friggin’ tired. (Friggin’.)
What does this NOT mean?
- There is not yet a full manuscript of To Serve In Hell. Big chunks of Rainbow Dash’s and Sassy Saddles’ journeys have yet to be written, which I estimate will take 10 more chapters/15k-30k more words. Maybe less if I play my cards right.
- I have not checked my email or looked at FimFiction in roughly 2 weeks since I made this last push to get down to the end. But to be honest... I got tired of coming to you guys with crappy amounts of progress on Hell. So here you go: PROGRESS!! I will get caught back up, again ASAP.
Friggin' great work, friendo. I knew you had it in you. Congrats. I can be one of your all-star prereader, but oh boy that's a lot of wordos. I haven't preread a whole novel before.

I haven't been reading along with this particular one, admittedly. I don't know if that's disappointing or a relief to you. But you're moving! You're keeping the process going along! I think! Right? And that seems like a good thing.
Congratulations, such a thing is well worth celebrating.

I'm glad you're still on board. This'll be a new experience for me as well. My story Heavy Rock from earlier this year is the longest thing I've ever taken through editing. Maybe I can research how this all is supposed to work...

*AM DISAPPOINT*
Naw, there are lots of stories on everybody's Read Later lists or whatever. And look on the bright side, if you didn't get hooked early, you haven't spent the last 2 years wondering when the eff I was going to update!

Danke, and indeed it is, so I have decided to celebrate in style. I have had a celebratory one-and-a-half nights of sleep, watched at least two episodes of Comedy Bang Bang, and gone to see the new Star Wars movie. I'm all partied out and just about ready to get back on the horse!

In fact, yes. I often wait for things to be close-enough-to-finished because otherwise, after a lull, I get confronted with “now I have to choose whether to reread a bunch for all the context that's fallen out of my head, which I'll inevitably drag my hooves on, or try to push on while not remembering what was going on and maybe get frustrated, or give up for no good reason, and none of these is really fair to the author”.
So it's sort of a “yay, it's easier for me to actually start queueing this up now”. Aside from just the general congratulations, of course.

This is great perspective. I suspect this is a reasonably common reaction to unfinished fics. That’s part of why from now on, I’m not releasing bits of things unless I’ve got the whole thing written and more-or-less ready to go.
I’m still up for helping...

Sounds like you bought the pickle jar.
