Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Still waiting on Midnight Rising prereads...

Which are particularly important this time, because the first preread I got back was negative. As it came from AJ_Aficionado, whose opinions I particularly value mostly because he’s more interested in the story than the sex, I tend to give what he said about it credence but still want to hear from everyone else before I start making changes to the new chapter.

Mind changed on removing the griffon arc from Midnight Rising + teaser

After receiving pleas from multiple readers to keep the Enter the Griffon chapters in place, I have decided to do so and go with my original plan, which was to simply offer new readers the chance

Flight of Firefly initial release finished... · 6:41pm Sep 11th, 2017

And I'm calling it a success, as it garnered nearly 50 likes, 100 tracks and 80+ comments... as well as featuring as an update at the end! I do wish it had been able to feature immediately as a new story, but that's a very tall order for a non-clopfic, non-one-shot AU war story that doesn't involve a single member of the Mane 6. Despite those handicaps, it did well, and I couldn't be happier with the final result. It's rare that a sequel outdoes the original, but thus far this one has!

So before I say anything else, I'd like to welcome and thank all the new readers to the story and Rise of Firefly before it, as the original picked up 13 upvotes as well. I really tried to make the new story such that reading the previous one was unnecessary, but plenty did anyway, and I'm very gratified for it!

The pace of the story will slow now, as I've exhausted my ready chapters and it's not the only thing I'm working on. I'll be writing a new chapter of the The Lawyer and The Unicorn next and hope to have it ready by this coming weekend (more on that in tomorrow's blog entry), after which I may just forge ahead and finish the story, which has but three chapters left. So when will the next chapter of Flight of Firefly be available? Probably early October at this point...

For those unfamiliar with my works, I am an unabashed adult fiction writer and my other site stories are clop. But very plot-driven and well-written clop, one of which (The Lawyer and The Unicorn) actually spawned the Firefly series. I also have an adult anthro romance novel available out on Amazon, and am writing the second book in that series as well. Not everybody's cup of tea, perhaps, but they're there for those curious, and I do make it a habit of referencing the characters and events of one story in others, even if they belong in different verses. Legate Ampok from the first Firefly book is based on the protagonist of my novel, an anthro lioness named Kamilya Kampo, for example.

Let me conclude by saying thank you once again to my new and returning readership, and a huge shout-out as well to my production team of co-writer Leo Archon who contributed several large sections to the new story, as well as prereaders AJ_Aficionado, SilentWoodfire, TheGoldCrow and Denim_Blue. Leo, DB, AJA and SWF are accomplished writers in their own right with multiple successful stories on site, and I invite everyone to check out their works. TheGoldCrow was the VA for Phoenix Wright in Turnabout Storm and has a youtube channel where he does slickly-produced video game walkthroughs and other projects. We work together well, and these stories wouldn't be as good without them!

Oops, one more thing. Since I completely forgot to do this for the conclusion of Rise of Firefly as I meant to... for those of you who like my works, I do have a new Patreon account if you'd like to express any appreciation for my writing monetarily. I do not require this of anyone and don't have any special material to offer contributors yet, but even a buck or two is appreciated. I do this (mostly) out of love, but a little money wouldn't hurt either!

Thanks again to everyone for a successful story launch and for following my works!

I certainly hope the slow burn phase keeps picking up readers like the original did.
