    Mistakes were made.

Familiarity chapter 11 keeps causing problems. I sat down the day before yesterday with the goal of pushing it a bit further to completion, and when I looked everything over I realized I'd made a terrible mistake in the planning.

    Belated Familiarity Update.

So, Familiary has been on hiatus for way longer than I hoped it would. Unfortunately, this is not very surprising considering my non-existent work ethic, incredibly fickle muse, short attention span and tendency towards procrastination. Don't get me wrong, when I do write I tend to write quite a lot. I just wish I was capable of being in that mindset for more than just, like, two months a year.

    Familiarity status update.

Well, I finished publishing act 1 of Familiarity, but I'm now out of chapters so continuing the previous update schedule is currently impossible. As such I've put the story on hiatus for now. I still don't know how much of act 2 I will bother to write before I continue. Ideally I would like to complete a decent number of chapters and continue like I have so far, but if the writing progress takes

The Cat Came Back. Again. · 12:02am Sep 6th, 2017

So, one of our older cats disappeared around midsummer and has been missing since then. Yesterday my parents claimed to have seen her briefly when the returned home from a trip, but when we went looking we found nothing.

Today she came back as if nothing happened. She was really hungry but otherwise seemed to be in good condition.

This is not as big a surprise as you might think, considering this is the third time she's pulled that stunt. The first time she was gone for like five months and I found her hiding out in a barn at the other end of the village, very pregnant and still kinda reluctant to go home. The second time she disappeared for a month in the middle of winter, then showed up on the porch in the middle of the night and was like: "Yo, let me in. I'm starving."

Normally when a cat vanishes without a trace for more than a week I'll start worrying, but this particular one is apparently some kind of feline wilderness survival expert. That or she's living with someone else, though if that's the case I have no idea who. I really wonder where she keeps running off to.

Weirdest thing is that nobody noticed how she returned. According to my mom, she entered the kitchen and the cat was just sitting there on the counter asking to be fed. I didn't let her into the house and dad was surprised as well. Now, what probably happened is that my aging father absentmindedly let her in thinking it was our other, vaguely similar cat.

...Except I swear that cat is supernatural or something. This one time I clearly saw her outdoors, only to seconds later find her sitting inside a building I know for a fact she could not possibly have entered. So yeah. Maybe she can fold space-time or something. That would explain why she keeps disappearing like that.

In other news, I've been absent for a while and haven't really been able to focus on pony stuff. Mostly, I've been designing swords and watching anime. Trying to get back into it now, though. I'm going to catch up on the last four episodes of the show and see if I can get more work done on my fanfics.

Honestly, I have some big projects in the works and I really want to get at least some of them published here. I know I'm an unapologetic boaster with delusions of grandeur and that I say this about just about everything I write, but I honestly feel this is some of the best stuff I have ever written.

So, look forward to that, eventually.

Cats are magic, I swear. Though their greatest mystical talent is their ability to know exactly what will be the most annoying thing they can do at any given moment.

Cats are arseholes at times like that.

Also, what sorts of swords and what anime?

I am glad to hear that your cat returned to you. :) And welcome back.

Well, it's been proven that gender isn't an issue when Time Lords regenerate. Perhaps the same holds true for species...

Also, what sorts of swords

Well, I've been sorta obsessed with designing a set of Japanese-style tactical swords. "Tactical" in my case meaning swords that look Japanese aesthetically but are intended to be relatively easily produced with modern techniques and doing away with what I consider to be a few design flaws.

I also started on a tactical kriegsmesser based on the same construction, but I ended up accidentally deleting it. Oh well, it wasn't quite turning out the way I wanted it anyway.

I've now completed a tachi, a katana and a wakizashi. It took several iterations since I kept fiddling with it, mostly redoing the hilts. I did it all in Sketchup, since I'm thinking of buying a 3D printer and it would be fun to try to make working models.

Should probably find a better 3d program, though, since Sketchup is pure evil.

and what anime?

My current favorite is Katsugeki Touken Ranbu, a show about a bunch of swordsmen who are actually swords. They travel through time to fight a bunch of monster swordsmen who are also swords. There are a lot of swords involved. It is, in other words, an anime that seems practically made for me. Also it's made by Ufotable, meaning it is gorgeous and has amazing fights.

(This and the fact that I got hooked on designing futuristic samurai swords may not be entirely unrelated.)

Another new favorite is Made In Abyss, which is the story about a little girl and her robot buddy who descend into a huge supernatural cave system full of ruins and monsters and weird shit, the bottom of which has never been explored. It is quite delightful, and also I love stories about exploring old ruins and caves.

Then there's the fourth season of Senki Zesshou Symphogear, which is one of my favorite anime series of all time. It's about magical girls who gain their powers from singing J-pop, and nothing in that sentence even begins to describe how absurdly badass this show is. I could try to describe it, bringing up such highlights as the time the main heroine caber-tossed an entire space-shuttle over a building, or when she rocket-punched an Avengers-style flying aircraft carrier in half length-wise, or that it has dialogue like: "I will come back alive, even if it kills me!" But then we'll be here all day. It's hotblooded as hell, is what I'm saying.

Also following:

Boku no Hero Academia: Very solid shonen, on its second season.
Knights & Magic: Giant robots, but in a fantasy setting.
Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni: "Guy from modern Japan gets sent to a fantasy world" meets "classic-style harem anime."
Re:Creators: Fictional characters show up in the real world. Is very meta in a way that I find quite gratifying as a writer.
Fate/Apocrypha: You know Fate/Stay Night? Fate/Zero? Yeah, it's more of that stuff.

All of them are very enjoyable, at least in my opinion.

Mostly, I've been designing swords and watching anime.

I really don't see the problem here.

Aye, they are noble pursuits.

I just wish I could do those things and also work on my stories. :applejackunsure:

Cats have strong connections to the fey. I wouldn't question it too closely. :)

Senki Zesshou Symphogear,

Sounds interesting, is this on any of the major anime streaming services?

Also, glad to see you back, now into the Word Mines with you.

Sounds interesting

We're talking about an anime where the protagonist mastered kung fu by watching Bruce Lee movies and cosplaying as Street Fighter characters.

is this on any of the major anime streaming services?

I dunno, probably? I don't like streaming my anime, so I acquire it through... other means. :trixieshiftright:
