Quick Opinion Poll/Anime · 1:02pm Apr 6th, 2017

Hey folks. So...little quandary on my part.

The Boruto TV anime just started. I'm only roughly halfway through Shippuden. Specifically, I'm exactly up to the episode where Naruto meets Killer B. It's unlikely I'm going to finish Shippuden this year.

I know a lot of advance spoilers, unfortunately. Things I'd rather not have been spoiled on--yet ironically made me get back into Naruto in the first place. I more or less know who ends up marrying who. I know Neji dies. I know about Sarada.

So...here's my question:

Kinda in the mood to actually watch Boruto weekly as it streams on Crunchyroll instead of having to catch up with it whenever I manage to finish Shippuden. Bad idea? Terrible idea? Your thoughts appreciated. (Be careful about spoilers! Kind of the whole reason this is even a dilemma in the first place.)

Personally I would want to finish Shippuden before watching the sequel, and I'm even more behind than you are. Boruto will still be there for whenever you choose to watch it, but if you aren't in the mood to finish Shippuden first then you should just skip right to the new stuff.

I don't give a flying fuck about anime, so I'll just do a troll comment here and see how Mothy reacts.:trollestia:

It's probably fine to start up Boruto. Maybe watch the movie first, but otherwise I wouldn't get worked up about it. You already know a couple of the biggest spoilers, so unless you're more of a purist than I am, which is unlikely, you'll be fine.

Oh, you can probably speed up your shippuuden viewing by finding a filler guide and skipping most of it. That'll cut down a hundred or more episodes, I bet.

This is unrelated but did you see the teaser for the MLP movie? I know it was thirty seconds and didn't reveal much but I'm kind of curious what your thoughts on it are.

Hm, that kind of depends on how much you want to understand what's happening. From what I've heard, the first Boruto episode is pretty easy to understand on its own- (happy ending for Naruto, so now time for his kids). If/when the anime series gets around to adapting the Boruto movie, which ties into the Naruto finale, then things might get more complicated.

I'd say whichever way gets you through it. All of my stuff is dumped in a block on Netflix (such as Star Trek), so I've never really had this problem.

The biggest question I have is are you watching the filler seasons as well? If the answer is yes then your in for a long haul. If no you might be able to finish sooner than you think. Filler is any time they timeskip back to the between times of the first Naruto and shippoden. If you see Jira or Kakashi participating with a much younger Naruto than in the current ninja war those are episodes that you can pass on. Or anything with the B side cast like Ten Ten or Guy. None of those arcs are really true cannon anyways and can be skipped since nothing in them actually affects the outcome of the current shippoden timeline.

One of the reasons I gave up watching the anime was all the filler arcs that they added since they kept bumping up against content ends. Also beware episodes later on that seem like flashback episodes since many of THOSE are filler as well. I know there is a Garra episode that in the manga they ask him a question and he answers quickly but they use the same scene in the anime and take a full 22 minutes of flashback before he actually answers. If you really feel the need to catch up Id recommend going to a barnes and noble if you have one and just reading the manga from where you are if you can figure it out. It literally would be much faster than slogging thru all the anime.

4486574 I don't skip filler, even long-slog filler. Even filler I don't particularly LIKE, I don't skip. I could, of course. Probably even should. But I have an aversion to skipping anything, ever.

4486634 Oh I understand but the only filler that was worth a damn to watch was Bleach filler (at least in my opinion). Naruto hit so many content ends since the manga was going the usual manga pace in japan that it just got painfull to watch when you maybe got 3 episodes and then filler arc over and over

I'm still back at original Naruto and I don't plan to watch Boruto until after I finish Shippuden after I finish the original series.

I would say your at a good enough position to start boruto, however you should skip the filler arcs to save time. Without getting too into it both hidden leaf founders make an appearance the shouldn't be missed. Plot wise your at a decent enough point, but I would recommend you still finish Shippuden.
