I've got almost everything I need. I have Break HP Limit armor for everyone, and somewhere in the depths of the Omega Ruins the Great Malboros are living like kings off the hard-won millions of gil I forked over to them to pull that off. I have the Caladbolg and Godhand fully powered up, and that sadistic Chocobo Trainer in the Calm Lands can go jump off a cliff and be pecked at by her trained dive-bombing birds. I have maxed out the trio's Sphere Grid to the point I'm ready to grind out the new stat spheres and begin min-maxing. I'm just missing one final, critical component.
Just put the fucking Aurochs Reels up for a prize already, once I have it I can get the Mercury Sigil, finishing powering up the World Champion, and my main party is ready to start grinding spheres against the Monster Arena's tougher bosses. I've spent every hour playing this game this week fighting random battles in the Omega Ruins and Calm Lands to get to 450 battles. I want my Celestial Weapon, dammit!

Odd, you should have plenty of battles fought to get that. One way to get it to appear is to reset Blitzball data until the season prize is the reels. Or am I remembering it wrong and it's a tournament prize? Caution, if you do reset Blitzball data, you will have to re-hire all the players again.
You could also start each league match with a forfeit all the way until you get to the last one, save the game, forfeit that last one, look at the new prizes, and if it's not the Auroch Reels, reset.

Wow, this is why I gave up on FFX. When I look at the FAQs and the amount of money and time and materials required. Like Ribbon is recommended on everyone's armor, but to get Ribbon requires rare materials that you can only get from either defeating or bribing rare monsters, which requires money, which requires defeating rare monsters and... yeah. I praise you for actually getting that far. Having the Dark Aeons blocking off certain areas is also kind of annoying. Its nice to get the International stuff at long last, just wish it wasn't blocking off areas like that.
Odd. I don't recall needing Break HP Limit on any of my armour sets. iirc I had Auto-Haste, Def+20%, Auto-Potion, and Auto-Protect on all three. Sell every potion except X-Potion so you don't use any inferior ones. The reason I used Def+20% is because with six Cheers and Auto-Protect, you will never take more than 9999 damage from any attack except one in particular that effectively laughs in the face of whatever HP you can amass.
As for weapons and offensive tactics, the fight went thusly: Caladbolg—Slice and Dice / Godhand—Final Elixir / World Champion—Attack Reels, Stoic overdrive modes, Quick Hit every regular attack, Quick Pockets when necessary, Three Stars to begin the fight and again after everyone was revived post-KO, six Cheers, six Aims, and Watched the upcoming attack bar like a hawk. Penance is not an easy fight but there are a lot of proven strategies that work. The most important thing to remember is to make sure the arms stay dead. If you can keep at least one down at all times, you need never fear an incoming Final Judgment attack. The others are all survivable and recoverable. Pretty sure he's weak to Purifying Salt too but idr tbh.
