Review #75 - Mothball pranks the ponies, Rainbownomicon · 2:46am Mar 15th, 2017

What have I have done recently for me to promote? Oh well, I'll just do something:
*I have now started Hard Reset -If you haven't read this yet, go do it.
*Motherly -A dark fic about (A Usurper) Chrysalis and her mother. In case you can't figure it out, this takes place before the return of NMM.
*This here remaster edition of the Alicornae EP album by Jyc Row. You know, for those of you who care and have yet to hear it:

As always, I will put down my recommendations, but I truly hope that you to make the choice on whether to read a fic or not yourself.

Mothball pranks the ponies by CAPTAIN YOSHI HD
(Alternate Universe, Comedy)
Mothball starts pranking the ponies and they try to make him learn his lesson on how bad it is.

Review
This one was meant to be a comedy but failed horribly. And by failed, I mean it isn't funny at all. You have no clue how much I want to say something nice about this, but I just can't. The characters all feel rushed, undeveloped, and the author expects you to know who they are. Mothball, as I figured out after some digging, came from the universe of Bride of Discord, and yet, there is no mention nor credit given to that fic/ author. Since I appear to be done with characters, I shall now talk about the plot... it's 28 Pranks Later. Seriously, this thing copied the plot of the episode and didn't even try to hide it.

Sigh, that said, the greatest weakness is how rushed EVERYTHING is. Now, I don't know why, nor how, the author wrote this, and maybe it was under a time limit. But this could have been good had the author 1) not copied an episode, 2) slowed down the plot, thereby forcing the characters to have characterization, and 3) given credit where credit is due.

Recommendation: Not Recommended. (The reasons above).

Random Thought Because Why Not? - I don't think you guys even know how much I hate not having anything good to talk about when reviewing.

(Gore, Comedy, Dark)
Rainbow Dash's latest flying routine was interrupted by a sudden mountain, and Twilight can hardly sleep at night. No pony should be this excited to play with necromancy.

Review
Surprisingly, this fic spans for around the length of seventeen, 17, days by my count. Anyway, this one is a comedy, but a dark, gory one. And now is the part of the review where Larry sings, a silly song I talk about Twilight. Why can I see Twilight loving the chance to practice necromancy like this? It works well for her, though she does obviously get tired of it after a while. Rainbow Dash is... I can't really say without spoilers... amazing with her actions and thinks what she's doing is perfectly normal. Rarity cares more about her sewing machine than her life. Applejack is a nice type of stubborn, though I imagined her with a stronger stomach, so to speak. Pinkie is... interesting in that she goes along with this. Poor Fluttershy, not getting much characterization. I must say, however, the diary entries at the end are great.

This one's greatest weakness then would be... tied between character interactions, which are great but could have used more, and pacing, as the conclusion is a bit rushed.

Recommendation: Worth Reading, but only if you like dark comedies. (It would be a recommended, but the weaknesses stated up above bring it down a level.

How sad that Mothball Pranks Ponies was written on my birthday. Bride of Discord however is awesome fic, and I'm not usually one for love centered fics/shipping, but I have to give credit where credit is due. MLP Mat have you ever considered joining Rage Reviews or other review groups? I'm sure you'd do well there.

Love that music!

And Hard Reset? Eeeeeeeeeeee! (Not that I'm a screaming fan-filly or anything!) Can't wait to read your review of it!

I have looked into Rage Reviews, but I'm not sure at this point if I want to join them.

Ah yes, now I just have to start up the sequels... I can say, however, that I love it at this point. (But I do have some gripes, which you will find out about eventually).
