...hit a point in a story where you get disconnected from it enough that when you look at it you can't help but wonder how the blue hell this is related to My Little Pony anymore?
Outside of the talking horses and character names, how is this story, in any way, representative of the original source?
Uugh...I'll come back to MLD tomorrow, but right now, I need to switch gears and clear my head so that I don't fall down the dark tagged rabbit hole.
Stay bright.

Well, I have now! Thanks a bunch, FF!
I don't think I've ever written a My Little Pony story in my life.
At a certain point in the story, the plot's gone so abstract to the point that it's only barely connected to the source material at all. And by "a certain point in the story," I mean the first sentence.
I did once. Thankfully, Cryosite, Jondor, and Timaeus were nearby and armed with assorted blunt objects. And a motorized whisk.
Don't ask.
....hmmm no, can't say I have. I mean, maybe "My Little Unicorn", but the author is a fucking idiot, so no.
Yeah, I some I do wounder at times but that doesn't means it bad.
Oh, yeah. In fact, I tend to hit that point before I've even gotten up the nerve to write anything down. I'll still just be daydreaming about it, going from plot point to plot point, then get to a certain level of darkness/weirdness/cruelty that mentally yanks my leash and I have to say to myself 'They're cute little talking ponies, have some restraint!'
I usually write it anyway, but with the appropriate level of self-consciousness.
The first version of my story, Her Royal Suitors, that thing was going places that made even me, the author go "Da fuck did that come from, and how did I ever think making Cadance the daughter of Death and Slendar Mane was a good idea!" you know, that kind of day.
