A Few Things... · 4:02am Sep 29th, 2012
Okay, the next chapter of The Piano Man is chugging along slowly, So that's just a progress update. On a separate note: I'm also in the first stages of another Human story of a different nature, which with any luck will be EqD worthy. If not... well, maybe it'll still be liked on FIMFiction.
Now, here's a touchier issue: I'm considering adding a romantic sub-plot to The Piano Man, which I know some readers had reservations about when the idea was first referenced in the comments for the first story, so let me clarify: What I'm thinking of is a romantic sub-plot. I'm not considering turning the story into an actual romance-centric piece, because I frankly don't want to do that. I'm more interested in putting something in the background behind that 'preparing for the trial'.
So basically, what I'm doing is getting reader-opinions on the idea in theory. Any thoughts?
I'm perfectly fine with a romance sub-plot as long as it's well written, and your writing is neat-o.
Frankly, I am all for romantic sub plots, and romantic plots, and plots in general( /if you know what I mean.jpg) but I am highly bias heh. I would like to see it in this story, perhaps with twilight? She is the only one that would make sense if you are shipping the piano man with somebody/pony. You would have to flesh out his relationship with whomever you are shipping him with though, considering most ponies are just nice to him because they pity him it seems. Good idea though, I eagerly wait for this to be in the story if you are going that direction!
Add that sh*t. Go ahead. Play with our heart strings all the more and make us your bitches. I dare you.
Challenge proposed.
I'll wear the hater-pants, I guess. I think adding a romantic element to your story would be ultimately distracting to your plot, added for being added's sake and not for any real plot-centric purpose. This many times more the case if your romantic sub-plot is going to be human x pony, that's something that would make me stop reading, actually.
Ehh....
I have some reservations about this, hopefully for very obvious reasons. I'll tell you what though, even if you decide to go through with it I'll keep reading the story most likely. I've invested too much time into this thing to simply abandon it. I would really stop worrying about the view count. You clearly have a fanbase that will read whatever you dish out. If you are going to do it make sure it stays in the background and is overall unimportant. It's a sequel to a story that had no shipping. You can't just change the genre.
Uh, if it involves Keys, I don't see how it's going to end well. He's just not emotionally stable enough to love anyone.
I say do it.
imma vote yes
Uh...
I guess. Let's just see how this will turn out.
I say go for it.
391030.......................-applauds- very eloquent; and quite frankly, I agree with you, While I LOOOOOOOOOVE romantic plots and sub-plots, it just feels... out of place... it just wouldn't properly flow with the story in any way shape or form... that I can see at any rate. In the end it really is your choice, we are you willing and loyal readers, and we will support either decision, if you think you can make a Romantic Sub-plot work in this story without making it feel out of place, go for it. ^_^ hope this comment and the one I responded to helps you in making your decision.
I think that it'd end badly. Others have posted better reasons than what I can come up with.
I'd be alright with the sub-plot.
However, like other above me have said, don't let it distract too much from the main story.
I'm cool with it.
Hmm, now that is quite the proposition there... I had to give the idea some serious thought while browsing reader comments posted here before formulating my opinion on it in fact.
It seems I have some reservations about adding a romantic sub-plot to Piano Man this far into the story. I'm not saying no, per se. However I feel that if you were to add in romance at any level, you would have to be very careful that it didn't dilute your current story. In fact...even as a sub-plot, to have the romance, I feel it must bring something to the table to justify it being there at all or else its just not worth it. Now the romance could also be something you add at the end as a result of the character's journey and growth within this story, but again you must be careful or it will feel contrived.
However, this is your work, and I enjoy it as it is. Regardless of where you take this story, I plan to read it to the end. Don't worry about us kind sir, write this story for yourself. I want you to be able to look back on this story when you are finished with pride in what you have created from the heart, and for a job well done. Good luck in your endeavors and best regards. dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_Lyra_smile.png
Trixie?
hmm...I'm not quite sure how I feel about this. Part of me say that romance would be great, and It'd be very appealing to a lot of people, like myself. Though another part of me say that This would completely throw off the main purpose of the story. I think that if done correctly, romance could be very good, but it could easily be very bad, too. I'd say if you do go for it, escalate it VERY slowly. No sex, for that would be dissapointing, but in moderation, I think romance could be alright.
Hmm, I've never been a big romance fan between two species, but I guess it could work, so long as it's not thrown into our face. Then again, it is a sub-plot, so it shouldn't be shouted out on top of rooftops. Also, if it does approve, I'm guessing, Twilight.
Also, if the next chapter is going slowly, try doing some one-shots. You don't even have to publish them, and they don't even have to be about ponies. (BLASPHEMY)
As for the new HiE story, I say go for it. You do HiE exceptionally well, so I look foward to more from you!
If it doesn't deform your story ill be fine with it, I've seen this happen before but I think you can pull it off.
Your story, do what you want
Write what you want to do I've loved everything about this story so far, I think I can trust you to write the rest. :)
I'm not a fan of shipping of any kind, romance would drive me away from this story. I'm not sure why but love/romance/shipping stories always bored or disgusted me. This decision however is entirely up to you though.
Go for it.
I say do it, love has the power to heal and destroy and in Keys current state it would make for a great read.
Awsome, I think you'll do a great job!
And the tally is...

Okay, so 'Yes' is a clear winner here. If I may address the worries that have been raised...
Not needed? I beg to differ. my story likes to look at the more interesting aspects of a human being pulled into Equestria. What better way to do that than with a Romance? Let me remind you that I'm talking about a sub-plot. To clarify that, what romance there is in this story is going to be kept to a threadbare minimum. I'm talking about it popping up in very small appearances, as something to be left in the background and Keys' thoughts for an extended period of time, rather than some big scene-dominating monster of a plot. Or, to put it more clearly:
---
In answer to your worries... well, I refer you to the above.

Based on what I've said about the romance elements being astoundingly minor, I don't suppose you'd be willing to reconsider that stance, would you?
399259 Please don't, i'm begging you. Your writing is excellent because you steer clear of cliche's and generic characters. If you add this it will essentially ruin the story for me. Let's face it, these are cartoon ponies. How anyone can take romance seriously is beyond me. Please don't add that sub-plot.
402341 I fully understand what you're saying, but the fact of the matter is that this won't be a generic 'Hey, we need a romance! You two, go pair off!' story. It's what I'd like to call a 'subtle plot'. The romance elements are small and non-centric. Just give me the benefit of the doubt, and I'm sure you'll find the sub-plot more than bearable.
Man there are a lot of butt hurt people who don't like romance here. "OH GOD THINGS SHOWING AFFECTION!"
I love what this site produces but I will never understand the fandom. Carry on SC and screw em'. You got me to upvote a 'dark' fic for the first time in like 5 months, you get the benefit of the doubt from me no matter where you take this.
403847 yeah i'm sure you can pull it off. But remember, almost everyone else has failed. it's not that i'm against romance, it's just it seems kinda silly when the main characters are these things:
