The Sentient Cloud

I'm The Sentient Cloud, a now-retired fanfiction writer from New Zealand. If you're looking at this, then you've probably already found your way to either "The Piano Man" or "Those Who Came Before".

    Updates on /everything/

Okay, so as a little note: I am still around, and I am still working on the final Piano Man Chapter.
But, that brings me to an interesting point, that being; I'm not entirely sure I'll keep writing for FIMFiction once it's over. I'm not saying I won't, but it's a possibility.

    Hard at Work

I know I've been very quiet update-wise as of late, so I feel it's best that I put up a quick blog post.

As per normal, Those Who Came Before is still on hiatus until I've put out these last two Piano Man chapters. I just felt I should reaffirm that. The first of the two-part epilogue for The Piano Man: Act II is close to completion too. I apologize for the long wait.

    Google "The Piano Man"

Every now and then, I Google my stories, just to see how far down the list they pop up. Obviously, The Piano Man has never been high on the search results unless you include 'FIMfiction' in the search bar.

    But...

    Seriously. What.
    WHAT.

The Piano Man series has taken up a lot of time, and - as some may have noticed - has resulted in a lot of burn-out towards the end. Those Who Came Before is also an interesting little venture, but I have to be honest; I've never been entirely sure where I'm going with it. That's not to say it's definitely going to be left to die, but I worry that just winging it will result in an unsatisfactory story for all involved.

I think that - by far - the people most concerned by this will be those clamoring for third arc in the story of Keys, which is something I've also been summing-up as an option. I'll say this: even though a three-act-system is traditional in prose and theater, the prospects of a third story don't seem all that good. It would most likely be a less serious and episodic affair, and even more slice-of-life-y than Act II. I won't even mention the inevitable drop in readership and popularity.

So... yes. None of this is anywhere near concrete in my mind, but it's just something for consideration.

Actually, I'd rather you stay refreshed and write what you want, than another Piano Man sequel. In my mind, I'm satisfied with how Piano Man has wrapped up by now, no need to churn out another sequel for the vocal readers.

At this point I have to agree. There really isn't much else in piano man that needs to be told. Just spell out the aftermath.

As for quitting? I suppose if you're out of ideas, then you could stop writing, but I'm sure there are people who want you to write things, and are more than willing to donate concepts that you can develop into ideas.

Those who came before has 997 likes. It's at 19K + words, and in all honesty is pretty good. You have your audience to reach out to if you need ideas. And if you don't want our help, there are plenty of groups on FIM fic that will be willing to do the same.

I do hope you continue.

Please don't leave. Another Piano Man story isn't important, what is important is that you continue to deliver us art. You are an A list user, you 515 followers is evidence of that enough. It's too late to back out now! You've amassed a following of loyal readers. You got soldiers in the streets, ready to fight for you.
Yeah, sorry about that, I'm listening to a diss track right now, got my blood pumping.

Do remember though, you come before the "all important users" don't stress about it.

Damn dude, you have five hundred plus followers, and only four people bothered to respond to this news?

Well I'm going to tell you like this, if writing has become too much of a chore or taking up too much of your time, then maybe you should give it a break. I love both of your Piano Man stories, and don't feel like you've burnt out with act 2. I know you're probably just stressed about how to finish it, with the whole Keys and Twilight thing being somewhat controversial to people that didn't pick up on the obvious signs throughout the story. Classic damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario.

Just remember it's not all about popularity and you should write what you enjoy and for yourself before anyone else. You have way too many readers to appease them all, so don't try.

There no reason for a third act if you just some up everything in the last chapter. About not wanting to write anymore, you should take a good long break to clear your head then decide if you really want to continue

Right, for those who came before. I've got an idea.

That huge facility under Canterlot could be some sort of old research area, and who ever ran that was doing genetic testing.

Something, no one knows what, caused them to leave, and abandon their research. As the ponies begin translating it, the start to figure out that this research is what created their ancestors, or the species that they evolved from.

From there you can do just about anything. Social collapse. Create a new religion founded on the technology and research left in the containment unit.

Even make Celestia send out a search party to look for them. Assuming they're still around.

But whatever. It's up to you. Just a random suggestion

As for difficulty writing. Write the parts that are fun to write first. That way, rather than sluggishly building up, you have what you need, and you build around that scene.

Anyways. have fun!
