So What Happened at the end of ECQ&tAE 26 for those who got too scared to read. · 11:41pm Feb 11th, 2017
So for those who couldn’t read the darker than normal bit at the end of ECQ&tAE that I put in… see below:
Basically Shi-Nihalar pulls Matrix/Inception type mind-game with Alternia after she's swallowed and the old brainwashing doesn't work. The God alters, exploits the hell out of her memories, by basically having Alternia wake up into a continuous series of realities. Realities where sometimes Alternia is in the past with her ex-lover and happy… only to be followed where Alternia has been captured by Equestria First and is being tortured...and is subsequently burned alive by them. Realities where Alternia… doesn’t respawn or recognize herself as Alternia but as an entirely different pony… sentient being, even at times being a male. Every time, except for the first time, she dies gruesomely… sometimes she is happy, only for her to wake up as something else, or herself, in a nightmare.
As such, Alternia at the end of this chapter, has gone insane. She basically now calls herself “it”. Because she doesn’t know what she is anymore, what everything around her is anymore. All she knows is that it hurts, it always hurts and she’s gotten to the point in which she’s trying… and miserably failing to kill herself. Now, she doesn’t want to exist anymore, and hell she doesn’t even know if she does exist.
Now before you get on the comment storm and … as for why I did this… well the plan was always for Shi-Nihalar to try to dominate Alternia. Originally I wrote a scene in Alternia’s mind palace with Shi-Nihalar crushing it and her suffering pain from it.
Zervziel pointed out to me that this reeks of cliche Sombra darkness/Crystal-heart-destruction caused weather lameness. It simply wasn’t menacing enough. It looked also like Alternia was able to resist him… and frankly it made Shi-Nihalar look weak. Nothing like the primal eldritch abomination he is. So I thought… how to make someone insane and came up with this. Aside from being influenced by Inception, Matrix, you might be able to tell that I was influenced by Eakin’s MLP fanfiction Hard Reset.
Perhaps the greatest motivation for going a route this creepy and writing that in was motivated by my and Zerv's need to make this story's climax count. I have some lingering regrets of PC:TCQ's climax, which wrapped up the end, but frankly had a villain that wasn't exactly terrifying. We don't want this Shi-Nihalar to be a one-off weekend villain. We want a despicable son of a B**** that the audience would glad to see dead. That shows that our heroes are brave simply by being willing to offer some resistance.
Thus, we/zerv and I, you all enjoyed the chapter nonetheless.
Funny thing is I was watching the end of the Lego Movie while reading this chapter, so as Alternia was torturously losing her mind, "Everything is Awesome" was playing in the background. I'm not sure if that makes the scene more or less horrifying.
Well I'm glad that I desided to skip it then.

Btw, did all of you get an update notice? There's a mega drop in view count (like 400) compared to the last chapter and its freaking me and Zerv out. Since there's been no change to subscription and there hasn't been a change in average view count in ages, I'm wondering if something went wrong with the subscription system.

----Someone saw your new post on the feed, before read new chapter and so he/she decided to withhold from reading chapter (probably because she/he expected some sort of cliffhanger) and wait for the next one.
----Someone decided that a part "The Battle of Vanhoof", will be long and decided that he/she will read it all at once, when it's done (again to avoid cliffhanger, sometimes I also do it)
We appreciate it, and that we didn't need to spend 90k words on it like another unrelated story had to.

4454657 there are a few stories (not necessarily on Fimfiction) that spend thousands upon Ten thousands of words describing the torture our beloved characters go through. It's just not fun anymore, and your implementation seems to be just the right amount of length to get the point across without becoming droning.
4454831 Oh... I see. Yeah that was a difficult one to write, but not necessarily to figure out. i could spend a lot of time obsessing over every lifetime Alternia was going through. I could even pick the most excruciating ones, but that wouldn't necessarily carry the point.
Frankly, you're giving me too much credit, it's relatively easy to choose once you think about what should be the best for the characters. Honestly, I thought I'd just pick the most... well not humane, but the ones that would give the reader the best sense on what happened in Shi-Nihalar's mind. Not necessarily gory, but disturbing, the type that explains in description the WTF insanity going on.
