Review #24 / Hearth's Warming #4 - Hearth Swarming Eve, One Hearth's Warming Eve, The Changelings Try To Celebrate Hearts Warming, A Lonely Hearth's Warming Eve · 7:48pm Dec 24th, 2016

And now for day 4 of my Hearth's Warming Specials:

Hearth Swarming Eve by horizon
One Hearth's Warming Eve by Caisius
The Changelings Try To Celebrate Hearts Warming by Dr Atlas
A Lonely Hearth's Warming by Snowfeather

Hearth Swarming Eve by horizon
(Thriller)
Stress levels were already high, with Twilight directing her first royal Hearth's Warming pageant and unexpected snowstorms escaping the Everfree. Then the changeling army arrived. Now, with Queen Chrysalis holding Ponyville hostage and the clock ticking on suspiciously pointless negotiations, it's up to Rarity to match wits with the invaders and save the holiday. However, as she digs ever deeper into the queen's tangled plot, what she learns could force her to choose between her friendships and her conscience.

Review
Ponyville gets attacked by Changelings and Twilight has to start some negotiations in order to stall them and find out what their true motive is. Rarity has to work to figure out what the true motive is while Twilight is busy in negotiations. As it turns out, the Changelings are all children, Chrysalis is dead, and they were on the verge of freezing to death so they needed help from the ponies.

This story can get to feel a little long at times, but otherwise, it has amazing pacing. It has few errors in the text, (I spotted one, but forgot where it was... oops). It also feels very planned out, which is quite nice. The tag works rather well, but it also feels as though it is about 1/3 of the way to a "Mystery" tag.

Score: 8/10 Recommendation: Recommended.

Personal Thoughts: Hey horizon, if you read this, is Rarity a Changeling!!??

One Hearth's Warming Eve by Caisius
(Sad)
On the eve of Hearth's Warming, families gather around the comfort of warm fires and tell the stories of the holiday. But not everypony can have that luxury. One pony walks the cold land, abandoned to the chill of the winter weather. But, while wandering the streets of Ponyville, the stallion notices a particular pink pony smiling at him from the window of a local bakery. Little did he know that her simple gesture would change his life forever. And, as he looks back on his life, he will know that a miracle did happen on that one Hearth's Warming Eve.

Review
A pony named Star Chaser, or "Chase" for short, walks into Ponyville on Hearth's Warming Eve. He meets Pinkie Pie, and after explaining his circumstances stayed overnight at the bakery. After spending a day with Pinkie's friends, he leaves, but not before Pinkie promises to find him again. Turns out he is old and in a hospital telling his story to the nurse. As time passes, he keeps on wishing to see Pinkie Pie again. Pinkie then finds him thirty-two years after that first night.

This one has completely great pacing all throughout it. It has few errors in it, which is really quite nice. It also feels planned out to several minute details. The tag it has is the best one for the story, however, it seems as though other authors would have had a "Slice of Life" tag on this type.

Score: 9/10 Recommendation: Recommended.

Personal Thoughts: This is a great story, and I do recommend reading it.

The Changelings Try To Celebrate Hearth's Warming by Dr Atlas
This is a sequel to The Changeling Start a Kickstarter For Their Show
(Comedy, Slice of Life)
With Hearts Warming right around the corner, the changelings take advantage of the opportunity to get food by celebrating the spirit of the holidays with them. ... Twilight has had just about enough of this.

Review
The Changelings try to celebrate Hearth's Warming, but they fail spectacularly. Turns out they have their own holiday called Chrysmass, and they explain how it works. It's pretty bad.

This one simply feels too short, and definitely needs a sequel of sorts. It has few errors in the text, (I spotted at least one). It also feels planned out enough for a good read, and still random enough to be comical. The tags fit very well too.

Score: 8/10 Recommendation: Recommended.

Personal Thoughts: Man that was good, and a continuation of it would be great. Also, I have yet to read/ review "The Changelings Start a Kickstarter For Their Show."

A Lonely Hearth's Warming Eve by Snowfeather
(Slice of Life)
It's Hearth's Warming Eve, and tonight, Scootaloo is alone. Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle are celebrating with their own families, and the filly's father is at a Hearth's Warming Eve party. Scootaloo wonders if somepony will come to help her, or if she will spend this usually joyous evening in a solemn silence.

Review
Scootaloo goes out walking and meets Rainbow Dash who gives her streamers for her scooter.

This one has pretty good pacing for the topic. It has few errors within the text, so that helps it out a lot. It also seems kind of planned out, but not entirely. The tag fits well enough, but it could really use a "Cute" tag... why doesn't FIMFiction have one yet??

Score: 7/10 Recommendation: Worth Reading.

Personal Thoughts: Why doesn't FIMFiction have a "Cute" tag yet!!??!! :flutterrage:

Happy Holidays to you as well.

Thanks for the review! Glad you enjoyed.

To answer your question … hm, how to best avoid spoilers. Reread the last chapter again, the section starting when Rarity says "Twilight, please, don't be hasty". Everything she says after that is the truth. Note especially that Twilight casts her spell on Rarity which breaks alteration enchantments, and it does nothing at all (meaning Rarity is not under the influence of disguises or shapeshifting magic; she's really the pony she appears to be).

Oh, ok... This is the part I missed...

The spell on this allows me to scry through any of Carousel Boutique's mirrored surfaces
