Review #19 - Spot That Changeling, My Other Self · 3:55pm Dec 19th, 2016

I have another two stories this time, they are:

Spot That Changeling by Inspector Brown
My Other Self by SaberKing2012

Spot That Changeling by Inspector Brown
(Comedy, Mystery, Slice of Life)
In order to improve their skills at detecting changeling infiltrators, Twilight Sparkle and the Council of Friendship ask their new friend Thorax to help them with a little training exercise. Their goal? Figure out which of their six friends is actually Thorax in disguise. Dialogue heavy, as this story focuses on the cross-interrogation of the game itself. Note: This story takes place before "To Where and Back Again."

Review
Thorax plays a game with the Main 6 where he impersonates one of them and they have to figure out who.

This story has totally amazing pacing, especially since it is almost entirely dialogue due to the Main 6 having to interrogate on another. It has few errors except for the annoying double-spaces after every sentence. It does, however, seem fairly planned out, but also the right mix of randomness. The tags also fit quite well.

Score: 7/10 Recommendation: Recommended.

Personal Thoughts: I really liked this, except for those annoying double-spaces.

My Other Self by Saberking2012
(Dark, drama, Horror, Sad)
Everypony has a dark side and Luna is no exception. She wants to forget about what happen but her dark self won't let her. How will she deal with herself? (*Takes place before Season 1*)

Review
Luna has a nightmare about something that happened to Celestia.

This one has very odd pacing; it is good for a one-shot, but not so much for the plot that the writer tried to put in... you would have to read it to understand. It has very few errors in the text. This story does not, however, feel quite planned out enough, as it seems as though it was written for a contest. But the tags fit well enough.

Score: 6.5/10 Recommendation: Not Recommended.

Personal Thoughts: Quote from the author's notes...

Of all the things you choose in life, you don't get to choose what your nightmares are. You don't pick them; they pick you. Sometimes you just need a reminder that they are only an illusion. Overcoming your fear(s) can be difficult but not impossible.

Thank you for your kind words. I love hearing that my work makes people happy. It gives me all the reason I need to keep doing it.

Ooh, I'd never heard of Inspector Brown up until now -- but I love finding relatively new authors who write good stuff. This one's going on the RiL list immediately!

Interesting scoring there: 7 gets an R, 6.5 gets an NR!

My score and recommendation systems are mostly separate things, so theoretically a 2 score could get an R. However, this probably won't happen because of the way I have the scoring system set up.

The Scoring is kind of set up into sets of 2.5 points per criteria that I look at, somewhat like how an English teacher would look at a paper. While the R/NR system is looking more at the story as a whole, while still looking at the Score.

4346267 Aha, I see. Thanks for the clarification.

This work wasn't my best but I have improved since then. Hopefully, my other story will be seen better
