    It's late

But my brain isn't quiet. I'm stoned out of my goddamn gourd. Don't worry, it is just my usual regimen of drugs. That's how I spent a lot of my time now. Wasted. Doesn't really help with the pain much, but makes it a bit more tolerable. All of my drugs cost over 5 grand a month. That's what it takes to keep me going. I'm in somewhat better shape because of all of it, and there's a few bright

    Cyborgification is potentially a-go

Finally found a doctor that didn't run screaming upon seeing my spine images and xrays. The team is coming together. Met with the neurosurgeon the other day, and he thinks I am an ideal candidate for augmentation. The transition is happening, I think. I still have to pass a psych evaluation and other steps, but I am closer now than ever. First I'll have the trial run; they'll sink electrodes into

I suppose it is time for an update

Been meaning to this, and I've become the King of Pro-Crasty Nation. I kept wanting to report, but there was nothing to report, no good news at all, so I just... didn't. Sorry. Went a bit silent on my end. It just sorta happened.

I finally got a lawyer willing to take up my case. After that, things started happening.

Signs and symbols of Equestrian marriage. Ponies don't have fingers, so rings seem off. Horn rings are stupid and only work with a single tribe. An exchange of cutie marks however, that's gotta be sign of commitment and dedication. You are choosing to wear your soulmate's cutie mark.

DISCUSS!

Interesting idea, but how would it work in a herd-based marriage? :rainbowhuh:

Is it actually her cutie mark? Or is it just a clasp thingy?

4252234

A row of little cutie marks along the flap.

4252236

It's Lyra's cutie mark on a saddlebag.

It could be both or she could be trying to hide it seeing as how she is supposed to be working for a top secret agency

Wow! Nice find!
What episode was this from?

4252240
Well, it's not super detailed, and it's probably a coincidence, honestly.
I also like to think that ponies give each other necklaces, like in Sophistication and Betrayal.

4252242

Putting your hoof down.

Interesting, I mean, horn rings are only for hornicorns, wing cuffs? Bands? Rings? Are only for the feathered ones, an anklet seems impractical but would work, though irritation from rubbing would have to be considered, as well as scratches and the like from everyday stuffs, I think something you could wear in yoyr mane would be a good idea, I mean, a wedding ring doesn't have to be a ring right, so long as it has that symbolism?
So yeah, saddlebag clasps would work, but I feel that it should be something that ya wear, not an accessory for something you wear, if ya get me.

4252250

Dat symbolism tho.

Choosing another's cutie mark as your own. Saying you embrace what they are.

necklaces might work definatly not something covered in the show. Maybe braclets

Thanks!

This is as close as we are going to get probably, so I say we run with it. :derpytongue2:
Unless she just decided to borrow Lyra's saddle bags because her's is currently out of commission for whatever reason.

4252252 *boop* exactly.
0-0 it's an interesting idea, embracing another's butt symbol, they're unique talent, their certain, individual thing that sets them apart from anyone else. It's saying you're embracing who they are and what they are, and you're going to walk the path of life with them, as you're choosing to take their destiny and share it with them.

4252234 Everyone uses the lead mares cutie mark as their symbol.

I like horn-rings myself.
Wing-cuffs, or adornments on the feathers can also work.
Hoof-or leg jewlery would also work well.

As to saddlebags - well - no.
Most ponies are naked most of the time in at least ponyville.

For pegusai - sharing feathers may work well - splice a feather from your mate into your wing.

Of course, there is always a silly suggestion - mine is:
Tail rings.

Having not seen the episodes of recent due to lack of time/ television, I read this and thought it was like getting your spouse's CM tattoo'd on one's keister next to their own CM. Which made me worry about Bucky if he had to do that. Then again, he might enjoy the pain of multiple tattoos at once, heheh...

4252283 feather splicing is am interesting concept~~

Interesting. I like it very much. You know I've read several stories that have had weddings. Mostly I see rings for unicorns and then rings on chains for others or a hoof band. But this this is so much more! I have to agree with
4252266. It's perfect.

All I have to say is head cannon excepted.

Maybe not switching out each other's marks, but perhaps adopting the other's make in such a way that it intertwines the two. The original mark being bigger, and the new one being a small, but still noticable addition.

Earrings might work...

The comics occasionally depict ponies wearing horseshoes. Why not exchange/wear a special shoe with your spouse's cutiemark engraved on it in such a way that on soft ground you leave an imprint of their mark?

That would work for all tribes and fit well with soft cannon.

i kinda had the idea of them getting earring to represent marriage.

This has come up in the Silververse where they use matching engraved silver horseshoes, usually just front pairs I think. If a herd is involved, I suppose more names engraved would work?:applejackunsure:

The whole concept of a Diamond Ring didn't pop up until fairly recently in history (~100 years). It was a product of the De Beer's Diamond Coorperation's 'A diamond is forever' Ad Campaign. Prior to that there wasn't really a "symbol of marriage".

In my head canon, the equivalent of De Beers is a Unicorn company; the ad campaign was very successful in Canterlot, and other unicorn cities if there are any. But very unsuccessful in Earth pony and Pegasi cities, for obvious reasons.

I've gone for hoof bands to show commitment, or at least "I am no longer on the market"

One of my OCs is in a 4-way relationship with the CMC and each of them has their band on a different leg, depending on what their talent is. Scootaloo has hers on her left rear hoof, as that's the leg she pushes with on her scooter. Apple Bloom has hers on her front right hoof, as she's right-hoof dominant with tools. Sweetie Belle has hers on her rear right hoof, as she thinks that is her best side. My OC has hers on her front-left hoof, as she channels her special talent through that hoof. However, since they are under the legal age for marriage in Equestria, it isn't considered official and the bands are pretty much like friendship bracelets, in that they are material, if not woven. It does serve the same purpose as a way of telling other ponies that they are off the market.

(If you must know, I prefer the CMC's talent NOT be "helping others find their cutie marks." but what was implied with Bloom being good at construction, Belle having a beautiful singing voice and Scoots being AWESOME on a scooter.)

Two of my other OC's do the "horn ring" thing, as they are both unicorns and from a traditional family that borders on Unicorn Supremacists. A silver ring to show their engagement and a gold ring once they are hoof-fasted. Perhaps I'll go more ornate in the rings after the "Year and a Night" thing my headcanons say would be involved with a hoof-fasting.

As for wearing your Beloved's rump marking, I like it. however, how would a pony go about declaring that they are off the market WITHOUT revealing who their Beloved is? How would one declare their love for their beloved if their beloved is from a race that doesn't HAVE cutie marks? How would Maud take herself off the market without needing a Beloved?

(A partial answer to the Cross-Race one could be that for Spike, his cutie mark would be a variant of the House of Twilight coat of arms. Discord's would probably be something like a hypercube or a swirling vortex of colors, both of which actually move and cause headaches in anyone who looks at them for too long.)

Late to the party, but I wanted to add my own two cents:

I actually sorta-tackled this same problem with a sorta-coauthor of mine, though the project is almost certainly dead in the water at this point. You can have the idea, if you want :)

In one of the MLP comic issues--the one with Teenage Mom Twilight, can't remember the number--Twilight Velvet, while going to a formal dinner with Princess Celestia, wears an anklet/bracelet with a small charm of her own cutie mark on it. I really liked the look, and sorta stole it.

Our idea was: when ponies are ready to propose/get married, they obtain that sort of charm bracelet, each with their own cutie mark, to give to their intended when the engagement is official--i.e., both mares and stallions will wear the anklet with their betrothed's mark.* Many ponies buy these charms, but making them is more significant and personal. The charms are typically worn for a relatively short time (several months to a year): long enough for the ponies to establish themselves as a couple, at least. Thereafter, the charms are put away somewhere safe--they're too special for everyday wear, so they're kept until a formal engagement, that sort of thing.

I'm rather fond of this idea--it helps explain why married ponies don't appear to wear a "ring," but accounts for why, say, Shining Armor and Cadance exchanged rings, but we haven't seen them since.

*YES I KNOW TWILIGHT VELVET WEARS HER OWN CUTIE MARK, I STOLE THE LOOK NOT THE SYMBOLISM

An idea of a friend that I've attempted to popularize in my own fics: cutie mark earrings.

Bon Bon would wear earring shaped in Lyra's cutie mark, and reverse. Or, they each wear one per ear... One ear with Bon Bon's cutie mark, the other with Lyra's. To show the pairing.

Much better than hoof bracelets, which just look stupid :P
