I ask having never visited the site but a lot of authors seem to be thrilled when they get approved.

4234205 No problem! You basically send the story to EQD and wait until a pre-reader approves it or not. If it doesn't make it, the pre-reader will tell you why it didn't get approved and what needs fixing.

What galls me is that EqD's prereaders have appointed themselves the gods of horsewords, and people just keep worshipping them and feeding that inflated sense of self-importance. They're like Anton Ego. I refuse to acknowledge them because they have absolutely no business treating writers that way.
That's why FiMF is a superior venue for horsewords. Even if your work is complete and utter shit, at least you can get it out there and people can tell you what you need to do to make it better. (Or just enjoy mercilessly ripping it apart.) And if you're a legitimately good writer, you can draw an audience and build a community of readers and peers and mutual appreciation (like I have done here on FiMF) without having some entitled little assknocker shutting you down arbitrarily because your story doesn't personally appeal to them.
