So apparently ghosts are totally a thing · 7:45pm May 16th, 2016

Despite Twilight making a point of Supernatural shenanigans like that sort of thing weren't a thing way back in S1, apparantly thats either retconned or at the very least, in Equestria, there is enough fuckery that the concept of the ghosts is at least a facet of their fiction. Good to know. For no reason in particular.

Alright, sometime this week there'll be a new chapter. Sometime. I've opted to at the very least write 1k a day from now on. I have ruled out a lot of the possible causes for my dearth of writing and as of now, I have also ruled out my depression. (Long story)

Long story short, its not that that's standing in the way of me writing virtually anything. So yeah that's news.

That was an absurd episode, so if you question the hearts warming eve, a legend which none can prove that it really happend, a celebration which actually depends on the death of thousands as they have slowly frozen, then bad things will happen; in the end world will freeze. Really?

It reminds me of all the folk tales told to the children to keep them in line and ignorant.

3948524 I've always interpreted it as more of a foundation myth not unlike the ones the American's have. There's probably truth in there... somewhere, but it has been so warped by over two thousand years of history and tradition who knows what the actual truth is?

It doesn't seem religious in nature either, so its not like there's a religious body interested in maintaining the story either.

3948528 The problem is their attitude to accept Starlight's decision and dictation of their idea with step by step and finishing with an apocalyptic threat.

If one should not celebrate it, or don't want to take part in an activity others should respect it. Not dictate their ideas.

3948548 Oh no I meant the actual Hearth's Warming story.

As for the Hearth's Warming Tail, yeah its a morality tale.

Well, any news is good news! Wait, that's not how it goes :derpytongue2:

I have ruled out a lot of the possible causes for my dearth of writing and as of now

Read dearth as death first time.

Glad I misread that part.

Observe that, in the play, a number of ponies were frozen over and then were just fine afterwards. The implication is that ponies can survive being frozen solid, at least when windigoes are doing the freezing. You are assuming that ponies died because of freezing. You don't actually know that.

(basically, you expect magic talking ponies to always obey RL physics and biology. There's numerous examples of them...not obeying those things. Perhaps half of them could be written off as visual gags, but the other half are rather more serious.)

3948838 You are right on that we have no evidence of ponies dying.

But it sound very absurd that a being can survive after being frozen. It stands against the common sense and logic.

Yes, there are beings on earth that can survive after being frozen but most of them are small organism and have very specific set of evolution, and fail to show intelligence beyond its instincts.

Even if we assume ponies can survive being frozen that decreases their need to immigrate to warmer lands, as they can survive under harsh climate.

So yes they are celebrating death and suffering of thousands as they died of cold and starvation.

3948786 I approve of this new direction for the story. :rainbowlaugh:

Operation stealth port edit is a go.

Discord was specifically called a 'spirit of disharmony among ponies' so the concept of ghosts doesn't seem that far fetched. Not to mention the windigoes themselves are a thing so It wouldn't surprise me if ghosts are as well.

Plus Twilight seems like the kind of person who would be of the opinion that If her books say there is no such thing as ghosts then she will say there is no such thing as ghosts until one slaps her in the face- or even longer.

That's great; I'm glad you're feeling better. Good luck on keeping that promise.

3948916 Talking magical ponies who move their sun and moon around, change their seasons manually, are friends with Discord, who also survive having the snow flash-melted around them with nothing more than a sunburn, who can drag a house around with nothing more than a rope (big mac), who can turn a frog or bird into an orange with wings and legs (respectively), can pull a train for hours if they need to (perhaps the engine broke that day?) and...well...I hope you get the idea. Any argument regarding real life biology (your point about small organisms) is of extremely limited value due to the sheer number of occasions when ponies disprove that they follow real life biology. We are better off looking at the most relevant data from the ponies themselves whenever possible, and only substituting our own understanding where there's a complete abscence of data.

To that end, We have strong evidence against them being killed by being frozen solid: the play itself. Even if the play itself turns out to be purely allegorical and utterly useless as historical evidence, three ponies were encased in ice on stage for about a minute and were just fine-far more fine than a human would have been.

That doesn't mean it has to be long-term surviveable, by any means. Ponies do seem to need to eat, which provides all the incentive needed to move elsewhere.

Finally-and most importantly-the celebration isn't of the suffering itself (regardless of how intense it was), but of the end of that suffering, of the driving off of the windigoes.

3948640 No he died, that r is a typo. Someone brought him back to life, and he's pissed. Stuipid necromancers/hospital staff never leaving a corpse alone.

3949585 In the parameters you have said your statements are true, yet the purpose of the celebration is still very subjective.

3948786 You better not be leading me on, boyo.

3953153 shut your whore mouth D:<

Waiting for whenever this "week" is supposed to end...
Funny how it seems to get longer every time I see an update...

Are you ever going to bring back that riddle-jeopardy bit?
