Groups » Groups Post - March 2016 · 12:11am Mar 9th, 2016
Groups Posts are a monthly group advertisement blog open to anyone who wants a signal boost. If you're interested in having your group advertised in one of these, send me a PM with the name of the group, a link to its front page, and a brief description of what the group is for. I'll copy this directly into the post, so write it like you're trying to tell other people about why they should join or pay attention to your group - anything up to around 150-ish words is fine.
Haven't had as much of a response this month as past months, I'm sorry to say. Keep in mind that these are free and open to anyone, even if you've been advertised before. I just need a new PM every time you want your group to appear.
Are people not enjoying your story? Are you concerned whether your story is truly good or not? Could it be that they're wrong, and you're right? If so, Request Criticism is a group to back you up.
Inspired by the lack of groups that take this kind of direction, Request Criticism is a group where you can, of course, request criticism by simply posting in the forums. You can be reviewed by anyone. Anyone can help you with your story just as anyone can hit that like/dislike button.
Word of the Week Quickfic Challenge
Every week, there will be a contest for a fic based on a single (obscure) word. Definitions will be provided, as well as genre constraints if applicable.
LemonZap is a group for people who enjoy Indigo Zap and Lemon Zest from Friendship Games. These two are fun-loving girls in their own rights, but together, they can all kinds of crazy things. If you're into that sort of thing, then consider joining LemonZap today! We're welcome to all people who like these two and for them to discuss all the wacky adventures they would have.
This group is for all those interested in Nightmare Moon's timeline in the season 5 finale. Discussions and theories about the setting and characters within this universe are welcomed and highly encouraged here. So if you have an appreciation for world-building, and love eternal night, this might be the place for you.
That's it for this month. Send in your group ads if you want them to appear in April!
Neat!
How many groups would any one person be allowed to promote in any given month?
Also, would you allow us to use BBC code in the group promotions if we broke the code so you could copy/paste it?

Why did you link the group (*Request Criticism*) twice?
3798472 As with a lot of things, I haven't really set down hard rules on that. I definitely don't mind if you've got more than one, especially if it's a slow month like this one, but I obviously won't accept 20 groups from a single person under normal circumstances. If you've got a couple you want to submit, go for it. This early on, I'll probably add them all in and just make a mental note of it in case I find myself on the first of April with a huge long list - I might ask you to trim a few out.
As for BBCode, I want to keep them fairly uniform to keep these things from becoming an advertisement arms race, with people competing to be the flashiest and most attention-grabbing ad in the post. I'll do reasonably-sized pictures as links to the group (like banners) if people ask for it, and I don't mind embedding links to threads within the body ("click here for this week's writing prompt!"), but I'd rather avoid colored text and font size manipulations. Focus on writing a concise, informative ad that grabs attention based on content, not flashiness of presentation.
3798576 Just to make it easier on people. I usually do that when people name the group within the ad.

Alright, thanks for the clarification. I was mainly just thinking about promoting 3 or 4 character-specific groups and adding the group icons to each respective advertisement.
Now I just need to work on the promotional descriptions...
Is it OK is you didn't make it, to enter it?
3798923 Entering groups you didn't create, you mean? It's probably best if you ask the staff or group founder about whether they'd want to be advertised rather than just going ahead and submitting something. I don't care if people submit groups they didn't create, but you really should clear it with the folks running the group ahead of time.

Okay, thanks!
