In which Discord is eviller than usual, and then nicer than usual · 10:35am Feb 18th, 2016
I love writing this guy.
The next chapter of Not the Hero is done and I'm just reviewing and editing before posting. (Which will happen much later today because insomnia is a bitch but doesn't make you better at editing.) I have a scene in which Discord is... well, he doesn't kill anyone, and that's about the only positive thing that can be said for his behavior, and even when he decides to be magnanimous he's still being kind of evil. And then the second major scene of the chapter involves him building up someone else's damaged ego and trying to convince them that they are worthwhile and that their friends really do love them. Because he wants to use them as a weapon, sure, but he's still being pretty damn nice, for Discord.
Q is like this too, but with Q it's typically different stories where I get to write him as being really, really evil or really, really decent for once. Discord is switching between extremes in the same chapter.
Also, am doing research on the training of circus animals in the start of the 20th century because next up I am probably working on Last Draconequus.
That's chaos for you, I guess. One moment, they end world hunger because they think people starving is dumb, and just when you are about to thank them, they start roundhouse-kicking puppies into orbit just because it's hilarious.
Note to self: Not enough puppies in orbit. Fix at earliest convenience.

You want sustainability with any puppies in orbit program. Anyone can get them there, but how do you get them to stay?
So hyped for LD. So hyped for both of these things, really.

Simple. Change the gravitational constant of the universe.
Eh, this is Discord prior to redemption via Fluttershy, so it might be nice to see he's villainous and maybe even a hypocrite depending on how he justifies it.
His talk with Fluttershy was one of my favorite parts of this story, because this is almost entirely from his biased perspective so that was the only indication that he was still the cartoon Discord that wasn't entirely sure he wanted to remain a villain.
If there's one complaint I have for this story it's the relative lack of meaningful interaction with the Element bearers. I know this is Discord's story and they're sort of out of commission for fighting the real antagonist, but they're also one of the more personal reminders of how Anon is such a big problem. And it would be nice to see more of the harmony side of the equation, I guess. But I imagine we'll get a bit of the element bearers when he tries to manipulate Spike.

It's difficult to justify interacting with the element bearers because Anon is with them and takes them wherever he goes. To interact with them is to interact with Anon, which is pretty much always a bad idea, and to be avoided if at all possible.

3762302 Cesar Milan can get any dog to stay, so I guess he has to go up in orbit as well.
3762344 True, but when Discord tried to recruit the Flim-Flam brothers & Anon suddenly showed up with Rarity, Rainbow & Applejack & they proceeded to beat Discord up, Fluttershy wasn't with him, & I really hope that that's significant in that she either directly (by him asking her) or indirectly (his power couldn't make her show up) refused to participate.
Why do you think Equestria hasn't made any significant technological progress for a thousand years in any meaningful way?
