Gravity Falls Series Finale Review (SPOILERS) · 1:07am Feb 16th, 2016

EDIT: Sorry! I forgot the page break! I was too emotional! :raritycry:

We've got a cavalcade of continuity at the Mystery Shack! Things like Wax Larry King's Head, the Lili-putt-ians, and Multibear are holed up in the Mystery Shack along with Stan's resistance. Which is really more like a loose collection of wild, mildly feral refugees.

The opening sequence for the finale is a mix of the regular opening and the Weirdmageddon opening.

Even Sev'ral Times and Rumble are part of the Resistance.

Stan wants nothing to do with fighting Bill preferring to hole up in the Shack until the food runs out. Dipper and Mabel try to inspire the survivors to fight. McGucket comes up with a plan to rescue Ford, who knows how to defeat Bill.

Speaking of Ford, Bill unfroze him to find out why he can't leave Gravity Falls. Ford refuses to help Bill, so Bill chains him up to torture him.

We get a montage of the resistance building McGucket's latest crazy contraption while Soos teaches McGucket about anime.

SYMBOL CONFIRMED: Pacifica Northwest is the llama. (Boy was I WAY off there :twilightoops:)

Remember the Gideonbot from season one? McGucket outdid himself with the Mystery Shack Robo Shacktron. A mishmash of the Mystery Shack, assorted random junk, giant robot parts, and that amber-frozen tyrannosaur from "Land Before Swine", Shacktron attacks Bill's castle.

The epic fight between the Resistance and Bill's minions is set to an EPIC rock remix of the Gravity Falls theme.

When Bill attacks Shacktron himself, he can't break through the unicorn hair barrier. Grenda rips out Bill's eye, giving the team the opening they need to rescue Ford. With Gideon's help, Dipper unpetrifies the entire town, freeing everyone from Bill's stone torment.

Ford draws the circle we've been seeing since forever: Bill in a circle surrounded by ten symbols.

Yes, those symbols.

While everyone's taking their places in the circle, Bill finds a way to defeat the Shacktron.

I was right about McGucket (glasses) and Wendy (ice). The only one I had wrong was the llama.

Unfortunately, Stanley, who's been a jerk this whole time, decides to be the biggest jerk he's been in the entire series right at the most critical moment, breaking the mystical circle just as they're about to defeat Bill.

Dammit, Stan.

(To be fair, Stanford really didn't need to nitpick Stan about grammar right at that particular moment, so he's kind of to blame too.)

The situation deteriorates rapidly, with six of the Zodiac turned into tapestries, the Stans imprisoned, and Dipper and Mabel on the run from a SERIOUSLY pissed off Bill.

Stanley and Stanford lament their mistakes. Stanford decides that the only hope the kids have now is to give Bill what he wants. He also laments that the steel plate in his head prevents his mind from being erased, because Bill is weak in the mindscape and could be destroyed with McGucket's memory gun.

When Bill returns with the twins, Ford agrees to shake Bill's hand and let him in. Elated at the prospect of universal domination, Bill eagerly enters...

...Stanley's mind. While Bill was occupied, the Stans swapped clothes, and Stan can do Ford's voice rather convincingly. As soon as Bill's physical form petrified, Ford used the memory erase gun to erase Stan's mind. Bill, panicking, tried to bargain with Stan to get free, but Stan FINALLY stepped up and did the right thing, giving Bill an EPIC You Suck speech and punching him out of existence as his mind fell apart around him.

With Bill destroyed, the Weirdpocalypse was cancelled, and Gravity Falls returned to normal...as normal as ever, anyway. However, freedom came at a price:

Stanley Pines' mind was erased.

However, somehow, Mabel, Dipper, and Soos were able to help Stan remember things he shouldn't be able to remember. A happy ending?

In the epilogue:

The Northwests are bankrupt. Fiddleford just made it rich selling a bunch of patents to the government.

Dipper and Mabel celebrate their 13th birthday with the whole town.

Stanford decides to make up with his brother, and asks him to go with him to the Arctic Circle to investigate new anomalies. Stan plans to shut down the Mystery Shack, but Soos convinces him not to. Stan decides to put Soos in charge of the Mystery Shack.

Summer ends, and Dipper and Mabel pack up to leave Gravity Falls, with their closest friends gathered to see them off. It's an emotional and tearful farewell.

There's a TON of little things in the ending that I could spoil for you if you haven't seen the finale yet...but I won't.

A lot of the things I wanted to see happen--pretty much EVERYTHING I wanted to see happen, actually--didn't happen. And I'm cool with that. I'm cool with it.

This was an epic finale to a truly amazing series, and I'm...

Sorry. Crying now. I'll wrap this up.

Now leaving Gravity Falls... :pinkiesad2:

(Stay tuned later tonight for my thoughts on the season 2 premiere of Better Call Saul.)

It's so sad, to see one of the greatest cartoons of our time wrap up now after all this time. :fluttercry:

I actually think Pacifica looks like a llama. Her hair is what does it for me.

Now if you all will excuse me, I need a moment because of that episode. I am not crying, but it seems that I caught something in my eye.

3757153 Maybe it's liquid pride?

3757160 No. :ajsleepy:

IT WAS TEARS!!! :fluttercry:

Just finished it, and enjoyed it!

The epic fight between the Resistance and Bill's minions is set to an EPIC rock remix of the Gravity Falls theme.

THAT THEME WAS SO BITCHIN'!

Grenda rips out Bill's eye

SO...
FRIGGIN'...
BADASS!

A timeless series that I'm grateful to know. From little gnomes to the gigantic fight, I enjoyed it.

*wipes tear from eye*

Farewell Gravity Falls, you are and will always be one of the greats.

well, theres ONE more mystery to solve. one final cipher.

i dont feel like lookin for it, im too sad.

But wait, have you heard Bill's dying words played backwards!?

Axolotl (what he spelled out) is both the cipher used to decode the final cryptogram of the series, and also the Aztec God of DEATH AND REANIMATION. Remember that Bill also has a regeneration factor, as mentioned and proven when his eye was pulled out. What if, maybe, just maybe, we haven't seen the last of him?

In another vein of sequel hooks, we also have the "See you next Summer" message from Wendy, the mysterious anomalies Stan and Ford are investigating, and the fact that during his AMA Alex himself responded to a question about the future with a picture of Axolotl.

I... I... crap. These emotions, I don't know how to deal right now.

3757754 Oh, we KNOW there's going to be a movie in the future. Alex said so himself when he announced the end of the series.

3757798
Whoa wait, when was this?? :pinkiegasp: Do you have an article I could read, a video where he announces it?

3757850 It's just what I've seen on both Wikipedia and the Gravity Falls wiki.

I've never cried so much in my entire life. Every single moment I thought I'd stop I cried again. Either because of sadness or joy. My eyes hurt. I've been sobbing so much that I can't feel my limbs anymore. This was perfect. The only little complaint I have is: not enough Pacifica. After she was reformed.

Now, what will happen in the future of this universe? I'd say:
Dipper and Pacifica (I f-ing ship it to the moon.) join together to build a team of explorers for more of those "weird places" Stan and Ford went to.

Mabel is gonna work at the Mystery Shack eventually and, at some point, take the Fez herself.
