finding originals · 4:34am Feb 5th, 2016
A fair while back, someone told me that every fic uploaded to fimfiction had a backup saved of it that was archived somewhere and, even if chapters got changed, remvoed completely or the whole story was rewriten, the original version could still be found.
If this is true, could someone please direct me to that spot? I want to use the original of a fic to sort out some problems with a rewrite i've been trying to make
I've been finding deleted fics and archived chapters on https://www.fimfetch.net/. But, I've heard that Google cache sometimes has them too.
EDIT: For FimFetch, finding a deleted story is much harder if you don't know the story number so that you can modify a story link... Because, you usually need to search through the morgue, a story at a time... FYI: the morgue is at https://www.fimfetch.net/morgue
There's also FimFiction Archive.

3734068 checked there. Turns out they've got the current version only
3734090 Sorry.
I guess I confused the datestamps on there for version...
3734068 but would it even be there? Living Nightmare is still up, not a canceled fic, so i'm not sure i'm going to find it there
3734102 It seems to depend on their update schedule. I can find some deleted stories, such as Nightmare Night and Nyx in their morgue... But, I can't find mine (which is not deleted) in their site at all.
EDIT: Maybe try the archive Von Voctavia mentioned.
I still have the originals of my comics, the only thing I really changed was adding color. And, any change in text was usually accompanied by a change in font... Although I can't vouch for the removal of dialog bubbles. It's not my my problem if reorganizing the chapters makes it appear to be a different story, that was the entire point of the thing not to know. Backwards, Forwards, Memento, Reversed, Inside out, and Upside down, Parts missing, ending somewhere in the middle, or formmated in chronological order, the individual chapters of the story always remained the same... Although, I did have to use the wayback machine to keep the dates straight. Maybe you can find what you're looking for with that; its

I genuinely don't have the patience to redraw the things I created between 19 and 29 honestly don't know how Herge of Tintin fame pulled it off. It was torture just coloring the back pages of my comics and half were already uploaded in color.
3734068 are those stories in the morgue up for adoption/rewrite?
3734178 FimFetch is just an archive.
If you find a story you want to adopt in there, you're going to need to follow the author information back to the original author and ask them for permission to adopt their story.

3734181 but what if the original author is dead? or doesn't have an fimfic account anymore?
3734202 I've actually been wondering that myself, actually... Some stories have died too young, in my opinion.
If you're interested in resurrecting a specific story, and the author is no more. I'd get in contact with one of the moderators (Meeester?), and ask them what the policy on this is...
EDIT: And even if the site rules allow for story resurreciton, you will need to contact the admins to transfer ownership, anyway.
3734211 alright I'll do that, lot of these deserved to be finished......... one of them was over 200 chapters long
3734216 Sorry to jump in, but I noticed the thread myself. I even saw one or two in there when I last looked that I felt should've lived and been finished ("That's not Cannon", and "And Then there were Two") Luckily for me those two authors are still occasionally active on the site, maybe I can ask one of them after I finish my Minty story, or my adopted Crusaders story.

I just sent Meeester the question about story resurrection will let ya'll know when he replies
3734222 thank you.
3734224 He just replied
3734225 ok.
If it's the old version of Living Nightmare you're looking for, I manually backup every chapter that I read and I don't delete old versions when new ones come out.
3734254 then can you please send me a copy via pm?

Done.
