Girlfriend's computer had shitty CPU. 2.3 Ghz Dulecore from like 2006.
Buy new CPU and new MB because fuck Intel's 300+ buck CPUs.
Install new hardware.
PC posts but no boot to windows.
Learn swapping MBs means you need to reinstall the OS, because Intel MBs work like a key to tun on Windows.
Install windows to new HDD. Attempt to copy GF's data onto it.
Intel tech encrypted old drive...
Explain that all data will ahve to be wiped to GF. She's okay with that, has backups.
Intel new OS on old HDD.
Graphics driver randomly crashes and recovers, crashing anything running at the time.
Uninstall and reinstall Graphics card.
Problem persists.
Completely remove all graphics drivers from computer. Reinstall graphics card again.
Problem persists.
Repeated 15 times with different versions of drivers.
Problem persists.
Entered full autistic overfocus mode. Entire world goes away. Longterm memory goes offline. Did SOMETHING to computer.
Problem gone!
Girlfriend happy. Get hugs (tasty hugs too!).
Girlfriend attempted to play game. Things going well. Suddenly BSOD!
Felt heart palpitations forming...
Read BSOD log. Error code means the driver is behaving incorrectly.
Rage reaches critical levels!
Look up help from manufacture. Find recommended Driver!
Recommended driver is one I tried which failed before.
RAGE DETONATES!

ok to be honest you may with time find the right driver (good luck you will need it) or to put it simple the newer MOBO's just do not like older hardware. point I have tried installing win 7 on a new system for a friend and the new mobo is encoded so it will not even boot 7 it wants at lest win 8.1
yep Microsoft is getting super slimy and don't even get me started on the GWX file witch I have fully removed from my system and I look at every up date before I even let it down load.
warning to all I have worked on a few win 10 systems when it runs it is good but dang let one thing get out of sorts and the hole thing crashes like a house of cards and you cant just reinstall it with a clean wipe it is easer to just get a new drive and start over.
my lap top is lynx primary boot with win 8.1 running in side that.

If the recommended driver version isn't the latest version then you're probably dealing with either older hardware in a product line with unified drivers, or an nVidia card. Given the sheer frustration expressed and the BSODs, I'd bet it's an nVidia card.
3649468 It's an Nvidia GTX 750 manufactured by Gigabyte... Though I've never had a problem with their cards before. It's been AMD's that have given me trouble.

nVidia is the only one where every driver update breaks as much as they fix, and users have to figure out which driver version works best for them.
AMD has their own problems, but that one is unique to nVidia.

Interestingly, it only ever affected the CPU, frying it and making it worthless. the first time it happened it created a continuous loop of failed boots that corrupted my OS and forced me to reinstall it. Caught it fast on the second round so I didn't have to deal with that particular pain again, but the only thing I will use that psu for now is a ad-hoc fan setup
3832061 If you realy don't want it and are just gonna toss it out, and dont mind mailing it up someplace, I'd love to use it for parts. You can get some great components out of those things. My apartment has an emergency smoke ventilation system that I built out of old PSUs and PVC pipe. Based on the time my roomie vaporized a hotmit by turning on the wrong burner, it can clear the apartment of smoke in about 10 minutes.
