Yay comics! [Spoiler for Issue 37 of the FiM comic book, published on 12/16/15] · 10:28pm Dec 16th, 2015
Yaaaaay!
I needed a nice thing today. I was stupid enough to forget about arranging for cat care while I am gone for the holidays and my sitter is all booked. I can't believe I forgot, and I can't forgive myself, either. And I wound up grading right up to the last minute, too. It has been a very, very stressful couple of days.
So I needed a pick-me-up. And Yaaaay.
Hope that was vague enough.
There are spoilers below the break. I can't seem to spoiler-tag images.
Oh, my, my . . . . I sort of do feel validated.
From "The Glass Council":
“The Sombra in these books cursed an Empire and had a ‘heart as black as night.’ Our Sombra sacrificed himself and saved the mare he loved, another mare who had done him and his ponies nothing but harm, and two universes,” said the Gray Scholar.
“And his heart was clean,” said Lady Chrysalis softly. “I am sure of that. I know.”
The Scholar snapped her book shut. “He may have turned himself into the villain,” she said, “but our friend could no more turn himself evil than red could turn itself into blue.”
“Yes, well,” the Scholar said acerbically, “whether it works or not, he can’t be reformed, because in point of fact, he hasn’t done anything. And he certainly doesn’t need a new love when what’s left of his shattered heart is full of her. He doesn’t need to be reformed; he needs to be healed. If he were to do what the other Sombra did, we would have to follow his wishes. He would rather die than harm anypony: so be it. But he hasn’t. I won’t let him banish himself into the ice. I am his friend and I will not give up on him.”
Lots of things to like here. For one thing, he's now the Good King Sombra of Equestria Prime. Don't believe me? Look at this.
He's missing the blue stripe in his mane, but that's all. Note the Observer in the background and the little exclamation point over Celestia's head. That's a definite reference to the Reflections Arc. And, um, maybe this is too:
Is she jealous? No, of course not. Her Sombra is an entirely different pony. Envious, perhaps just a touch, although she looks sincerely happy for them. On the other hand, this Sombra was sealed away in evil, darkness, and impenetrable ice for a thousand years, and now he's made the right choice and been released by Hope . . .
. . . well, maybe, just maybe, there's Hope for Celestia, too.
Celestia/Good King Sombra. Still ship it like crazy.
And now finally I can steal some time to write that story, the sequel to "The Glass Council."
I've shipped relentlessly before, Celestia/Good Sombra, which comic so I can buy it? XD
Also saw a comic with Cadence in high school with nerdy Shining Armor on the cover, Glasses and D&D dice (Not dissing D&D) I wanted to buy it by sheer virtue of how ridiculous it looked...Recognize the issue or no?
Also, merry Christmas!
Personally, I'm just wondering how a reconstructed Amore would react to Cadence sitting on the Crystal Throne. And how the two are related, if at all. Seriously, that poor mare has to cope with a time gap even greater than Luna's.
Celestia would be totally happy for Mainline Sombra and Radiant Hope. First, he's not her Sombra; and secondly, Celestia is extremely sweet. She would never begrudge someone else their happiness, even if it brought up a painful association for herself. She's never a dog-in-the-manger.
Don't know if you've been following my Post-Traumatic, but you may notice that this is how I write her as well. She'll tease her friends, but she's extremely and unironically good.
I didn't really like the ending of this arc. I'm happy for you that you got the ending that you like, but I feel like I've gone a messy ending. like in the beginning it was good, the princesses were captured, Sombra got the Empire, Hope was distraught because. Really good stuff, but then it slowly turned into a mess. What happened to the second-rate villains, why didn't they help the main six, it will help them look better in the end. Why did the Princesses turn around and help Sombra out of the blue, he literally hold them imprison them. in short, I did not like this ending at all.

... Ya, I'd say that's a pretty fair guess,

That was Main Series #11 & 12. It's basically a goofy 1980's John Hughes film in comic form.

Unpublished Word-of-McCarthy says Cadance is a descendant of Amore, though I don't know how they reconcile this with the similarly Word-of-McCarthy canonization of Cadance's foundling status as described in Berrow's "...Crystal Heart Spell" and omigosh I am such a nerd to know all this stuff.
My guess is that in the unlikely event of their success in restoring her, Amore would be too polite to unseat Cadance, esp. since Amore is about to produce an heir and all, and assumes the role of Dowager Empress / Queen Mother. I say unlikely because they're trying to find an impossibly huge number of crystal shards, but maybe magic would help, like if Sombra and Hope were to employ Rarity's gem-finding talent and HOLY CRAP THIS IS THE BEST FANFIC IDEA ALL OF A SUDDEN.

I figured as much. if I wasn't focused on collecting the last few issues of Batman and Green Lantern I'd check it out.
Also, nice to see you online Skywriter, I went to most of the writing panels at Bronycon 2015, good stuff, from both you and Scoots.

Thanks!

It's no problem! I'm going again in 2016, hoping for some more awesome panels to improve my skills.
Sombraaaaa! That art looked great and that Reflections reference was really cool to see.
