New... uh, what is this thing? Story? Collection? Thing. New Thing!

So long story short I got tired of having lots of ideas that weren't really enough to be stories on their own. I've seen lots of folks post up 'scrap book' style collections of whatever dribbles out of their minds and onto the page, so I figured 'why not?'

    GENTLEMEN; BEHOLD!!

That Followup Blog That I Said I Would Do But Never Did... Until Now

Okay, so back when More than Meets the Ear wrapped up I said I would shortly be posting a followup blog, right?

... Yeah, we all know that didn't happen. Real life got in the way, yadda yadda; I'll spare you all the details. Nobody cares about my personal life (sometimes not even me, :twilightoops:).

    So!

That was a hell of a thing, wasn't it?

More than Meets the Ear: Thank yous, Shout-outs, and Future Plans! · 5:21am Dec 9th, 2015

Aw, c'mon, you know who'd win... :raritywink:

What's shakin', maple bacon? :pinkiehappy:

Okay, so... WOW. After over two full days, More than Meets the Ear has finally fallen out of the Feature Box. Now that most of the initial hype has passed, I've got a lot to say. Some of it is kinda long winded, so feel free to scroll all the way down to the bottom of this blog for a TL:DR if you're in a hurry.

Before we truly begin, there's one thing missing... ACTION MUSIC! :pinkiecrazy:

First of all: JESUS H. ROLLERBLADING CHRIST ON A KEEBLER CRACKER, there are a ton of folks out there who really, really liked reading about Vinyl Scratch's car turning into a giant robot. I did not expect this kind of reaction in the slightest. I feel like I need to apologize to some the majority of you, because normally I like to thank each and every person who favorites my stories individually for taking time out of their day to read something I wrote. This time around though, it was just way, way too much to keep up with all at once.

So, here and now, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone out there who read and enjoyed this story. I write because I want to entertain people, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this little story did that in spades.

Second: I have to extend an extra-special thank you to Bookish Delight, who in addition to being the whole reason this story got written in the first place (even if she might not've been serious at the time) is also mostly responsible for this story making it anywhere near the front page of Fimfic to begin with. Bookish posted an EQG Vinyl Scratch story of her own, Audio Therapy (which I found to be fantastic, by the way) , on the same day I posted mine, and blogged about both to all her followers. She's a much bigger fish around this pond than I am, so even though I tried to return the favor I'm pretty sure I still got the better end of the deal.

If any of you are so inclined, feel free to hop on over to Bookish's page, check out Audio Therapy as well as her many other awesome stories, and just generally let her know how awesome she is... oh, but don't mention using real-life Earth history in an Equestria Girls story; she might eat you alive, :twilightoops:

OKAY~! Now for the good stuff you guys and gals (and autonomous robotic lifeforms) have been waiting for!

After seeing so many people asking questions about this story and asking for a sequel, or more, or more sequels, or sequel mores, and... wait, that last one didn't make any sense... :rainbowhuh:

Where was I? OH, right! With so much interest, I will definitely be continuing this story! :rainbowdetermined2:

My plan is to write at least three more chapters (apologies to everyone who added this to their 'completed' bookshelves; it's gonna be switched over to incomplete in just a little bit :twilightblush:), each one focusing on the other students of Canterlot High who share Vinyl's 'little secret', and ideally a fifth chapter that wraps up the story. As some people have already guessed, while conceptualizing this tale I also came up with a fairly detailed backstory that just wouldn't have fit in the scope of a one-shot, and I promise I will try my best to answer as many of the questions people are asking about 'how all this came about'.

What I'm not going to promise is that you'll be seeing a lot of action from the Transformers' fan favorites. Soundwave, Jazz, Bumblebee, Starscream; all those guys that you all love to hate and hate to love... they most likely won't be making an appearance in this story. Will the major players, like Optimus and Megatron, be mentioned? Almost certainly, but most of the 'bots you can expect to see hanging out at Canterlot High are going to be OC's, like Vinyl's Awesome Aussie Asskicker (ooh, I need to write that down and use it...).

I'm aware that this may alienate some hardcore Transformers fans, but I'd rather be up-front with you guys than lead you along thinking that Optimus is going to come flying out of nowhere to save the day, or that the big bad is going to turn out to be Megatron, only to let you down when that doesn't happen. If knowing this makes you decide not to read the story, I totally understand, but if you really enjoyed what you've read so far, I ask that you stick around and give me a chance. Like a certain magician, I've got some magic I'm planning to work, and when all is said and done I think you'll be happy you stayed, :raritywink:

Well, that about enough of my yammering for one night. Thanks again to everyone for all their support, and I hope you enjoy what comes next! Take it away, Pinkie!

TL:DR
1. Thank you guys. All you guys. You're awesome.
2. Thank you Bookish Delight. You awesome guys should go tell her how awesome she is and read her awesome stuff.
3. Per readers' overwhelming request, I'm going to write more (hopefully awesome) chapters to this story.
4. The story may not feature the Autobots and Decepticons you all know and love, which may be slightly less-awesome for some folks. Stick around though, you may be surprised by a slightly different kind of awesome by the time we're done.
5. I just wanted to say 'awesome' again, :rainbowwild:

Actually, I'm rather glad to hear you'll primarily be using OC Transformers in this with the characters we all know only mentioned on occasion. As much as people love seeing their favorite Robot in Disguise in a story, the slightest mistake in characterization - or using the wrong series characterization - can easily explode with die-hard fans. I know, I'm good friends with one. :rainbowwild:

Also, using only OC Transformers and only mentioning the main conflict of the Transformers series gives the implication that this is a completely separate world than the Earth of Transformers, opening up all sorts of possibilities.

Or, in other words, the thing you were worried would alienate readers has me excited.

Is it wrong for me to want to see this stay just the way it is? :unsuresweetie:

Right now, I would argue that this story is just perfect. It's a tiny little coda to Rainbow Rocks that gives us a glimpse of what the Dazzlings would almost certainly try to do after their ill-fated show, and teases us with a brilliant explanation of how in the heck Vinyl got her hands on a transforming car. The contrast between the way Vinyl communicates and the way everyone else does is greatly entertaining. The description of the car transforming brings the story to a satisfying climax. Overall, this is so well-done that I would argue everyone on the site should read it.

Oh, by all means, write sequels showing us more about the way these Transformers work in this world, and the people who help keep their secret. The concept is gold, and your execution here was dynamite. But I feel like this one would be hard to expand without risking certain elements of harmony balance.

Sweetness.

[zecora]Hmm, must be more tired than I thought.

for a moment though, for Sirens, I thought you said WaterBot[/zecora]

Whooo! This is gon be guuud :pinkiecrazy:
hehehe, I await the awesome!

Do you need Autobot ocs? Cause I have some I made after playing the war and fall of cybertron games.

Dude I can't wait to read more of the story. Let the wild fun of a BASS CANNON begin!:rainbowdetermined2:

You got it, broheim, :raritywink:

It's not wrong, and to be perfectly frank part of me agrees with you. I spent most of today considering if I shouldn't go a different route; maybe leave the one-shot as-is and go back to tell the story from the beginning. There are certainly merits to doing so, but I think I need to write a little bit more of this story; see how it starts to develop, before I can really decide. Thank you for your Honesty though, it made me stop and think, and that's always a good thing,

... Wat? :rainbowhuh:

Hm, I don't think I need any at the moment... I've got all I need for my immediate plans, although if I end up writing anything further after this story I'll keep you in mind. Thanks for offering!
