My story, and why writing MLP leaves me now.... conflicted

I think my last post was brief, so I might as well go into some detail here about my story, why I started writing mlp fanfic, and what is happening now.

    G5: OH THE IRONY...

You know, it's really really funny... G5 has all the three tribes of ponies hating each other, and living in a modern setting centuries after FiM. I wrote about this very ideas years ago, before G5 was ever conceived of, in a story where Celestia and Luna go on a vacation incognito to the earth pony town of Coltonville, and find pony hatred and paranoia, as well as a conspiracy against unicorn

    Returning for real this time

Okay, everybody, Paradise/Tornado here again! Yes I know it's been a year, but I needed time to recover from a ten-year burnout in writing, and it took awhile to get my creative juices flowing again. I'm putting together plans for a new story or two, though my plans for my 'big finish' story are on hold again. I hope many of you are still here, and look forward to entertaining all of you with my

G3: undeserved reputation · 9:58pm Nov 5th, 2015

You know, one of the reasons that I'm writing this G3 story, is that MLP G3 is often the forgotten about generation. When I was a little kid, g1 was the thing I remember being on toy shelves, and G1 was the cartoon I watched with fondness. In my pre-teens, My Little Pony tales ponies filled my collection beside my g1 toys, and I watched the show very faithfully every day. G2 was so close to g1, that I lumped them together in my mind. And by the time G3 came about, I was a young adult, collecting toys simply for the nostalgia factor. But I think G3 is unfortunate that it gets remembered simply for it's few tv special and direct to video movies, not for the generation as a whole.

Who here can remember the celebration castle play set, with the breakaway hot air balloon, and the action features all over the castle triggered by the ponys's hooves? Who remembers the plug 'n play video game system, that came with the awesome pony Puzzlemint. Anybody recall Rainbow Crystal Castle, that literally grew as it opened up as a battery-controlled action feature? Or awesome ponies like Starcatcher, and Thistle whistle, Pegasus whose wings had a cool swirly greek-esque design on their wings? Do you remember the Seasonal G3's, ones themed after every holiday? Or toys that actually looked like real ponies, instead of anorexic dear with big anime eyes and human-like heads?

Did you know that there were several G3 storybooks, that actually gave the characters more personality that the TV specials did? Did you now G3 Rainbow Dash actually loved sports, and won toboggan races against her friends- she was just as sporty as G4 dash, while still being super-girly. Did you know there was a cranky anti-social mare in G3 Ponyville who liked painting and hated friends, but Pinkie Pie agreed to model for her paintings, and managed to get her to lighten up? Did you know Kimono actually got mad at Pinkie Pie and Rainbow dash when they messed the library up in one book, and screamed at them? Did you know that the G3 ponies go on actual adventures in the books and comics, Pinkie even visiting a haunted house once?

G3's were not just smiling idiots- they showed the full range of emotions in the books, and often came up with good ideas. Look at Minty's christmas special- Pinkie Pie actually got MAD at Minty for her screw up, and thistle whistle was actually pretty sarcastic during the whole 'mission to the north pole'. Does anybody remember Dash's sarcastic comment towards rarity when she knocked her over in Runaway Rainbow? Oh yes, g4 is so much better, you don't see them acting crazy, bursting into song randomly, being overly happy and friendly, and having very feminine design and colors in their architecture with hearts and pink everywhere... oh WAIT :twilightangry2: .

This generation gets blasted and lambasted because of the poor writing and production of it's major source of media- the TV specials- yes, I'll be the first to admit G4 has better writing and design. But when I hear things like "Oh no they look like real horses!" "Oh kill it with fire!" When I hear nasty remarks about things like Razaroo's 'yes yes yes' speech patters, or "That's not the REAL Rainbow Dash, that's not the REAL Rarity'. I look over at the crazy and cartoony g4's and I fail to see the logic in the argument. Yes, I love G4 and it's characters, but I hate the poison being spewed all over the generation before it so new fans can feel better about themselves.

If I were doing a complicated, delicate task, I'd rather have the sane and smart g3 Pinkie Pie helping me, rather than a nutso lunatic who had too much sugar. And you wouldn't believe the anger I got from a few people when I had Kimono actually take down a fully powered powered Alicorn Princess Luna in a fight. Or when I said Star Catcher was more graceful and elegant than Princess Celestia. Sunny Daze might just be able to out-tomboy rainbow dash, and G3 Spike is far more intelligent, classy, and respected than the butt monkey who G4 keeps making fun of again and again.

In this story, you're going to see G3 at it's best- warts and all. But without the kiddy writing of the specials. What kind of adventures will the G3 ponies have? Well, you'll just have to wait and see, now won't you? G4 is wonderful guys, I'm not saying it isn't (expect for that one scene where the Pinkie clone makes her 'crazy face'- NOT FUNNY, WRITERS! :twilightangry2: ) BUT NOW IT'S THE DOWNTRODDEN GENERATION'S TURN TO SHINE!

I've actually never seen it read anything from the g3 gen, so I can't say anything about it good or bad. But it did make me fall in love with MLP all over again with its beautiful range of toys.

Actually I even really liked some of the early movies of the generation, it's only some of the later ones (parties and on) that came out kind of meh...

I personally never seen G3 on TV, but I do enjoy what others write in its setting.

Aw man I actually own that Puzzlemint game. It's cute! There's like no gameplay videos on the web though.
Maybe I should remedy that...
Just for historical purposes.

But I agree with all your points.
I'm nowhere near old enough to honestly say I grew up with G3, but I do remember it in its prime. I, being a stereotype, thought all girl toys were icky, and never touched them.

What a fool I was.
G3 has such a rich history that's passed over by G4 fans, all in the excuse of "It's just a glorified toy commercial"

I thank you for being one of the few authors to keep showing the utmost respect for the previous generations.

Some G4 fans seem to forget that all MLP is a glorified toy commercial. Or they think their gen is exempt somehow. This is Hasbro people, all their tv properties past and present are glorified toy commercials.

I... Never knew that was the name of my castle! I had the Rainbow Crystal Castle! Yes! Oh, gosh... I wish I still had it. :applecry: anyways, I totally agree with you! *Clap* Thank you for doing that. Not many people would, including myself. To make a blog like that, that strong? It's so powerful! I love it. Because of you, I have come to once again appreciate G3, and now I like G 1&2 (Not G3.5... I can't get past that.) ...The point I am trying to make is, we need more people like you in our fandom. You're one of my best friends, and you love all generations of pony. Why isn't there more people like that?

Ah...so that's why Jon Stewart kept playing G3 clips when he wanted to reference Bronies. You're sort of like G3's original distributors, Paramount (who have the same parent company as The Daily Show) in that you really really miss MLP:G3.

Who in the world could blame you?

I think that once Equestria Girls came around, and once it started to make profits for Shout! Factory, that company decided to monopolize MLP's video distribution rights by stripping other studios (such as Paramount, which is one of Hollywood's biggest studios ever) of distribution for previous gens of MLP, which happened, of course. This is not fair to those distributors; I feel as though if a studio feels comfortable with distributing a specific MLP gen, it should distribute its home video releases. This is raised at a high scale in Paramount's case.

Ummm, I don't miss G3, I just think it gets bashed waaay too much, and it never got the animated representation it deserved. I'm not trying to bring G3 back, I'm just trying to get it seen in a dfferent light.

3552893 Oh. Well, then...um...

It's okay, no worries! It's I get tired of watching EXTREME BRONY VIDEOS AND COMMENTS GOING 'IT SUCKS IT SUCKS IT SUCKS' and certain reviews that bash the animation endlessly, fail to see the good moments where there is conflict and personality, and just declare it automatically a failure because IT'S G3.

Yes, I only write about G3, G1, and mlp tales now because I've said all I have to say in my fanfics on G4. Aaand I'm really not a big fan of the show itself anymore- in my opinion, the show started to go off the rails when Faust left, and ceased to be likable after the season 3 finale. And i can't stand when I see a comment 'G4 did It better!" when I can sit down and think of instances where that is certainly NOT the case!
