    Some OC Questions

Hey, all! This is a meme by gilgamemesh I've seen around Tumblr, and since I haven't gotten any asks about it there, I thought I'd post it here! Here's how it works: pick a number or multiple numbers from the list, post it/them in the comments, and in about a week or so (depending on how many asks I get), I'll post a follow-up blog about it! And if two people ask about the same number, that's

They're Here! · 3:32am Oct 6th, 2015

Remember how I said I was ordering equipment to do a reading of Guardian Halo? Well, dear friends, they have arrived a day early!

These headphones may not look like much at the moment, but they are what will help me record the reading. I've been giving them a test run as I listened to music tonight, and they sound great! Now I just need to set these up to record my voice, which I'll do as I practice my reading. I hope to have it done soon, but with how busy I've been lately, I'm not going to promise a due date. Instead, I will promise to make this the best that I can at this time. Maybe I'll look back on it someday and realize I could make improvements. Maybe I'll be able to. At this time, I don't know. What I do know is that this is my gift to all of you.

Many thanks again to The Daring Cookie for so freely giving advice on what kind of equipment to get, and to Emylia Hawke for so generously giving her time to edit and to produce some beautiful artwork.

Cheers to you all.

Really looking forward to this. I'm sure it'll be something fantastic.

Thanks a ton for that. I really want to make this as good as possible for all of you.

My audio production professor said that the best recording equipment is the equipment you have available. :rainbowkiss:

3446479
Your professor is wise, then. Though I guess I can't say I followed that advice. :rainbowlaugh:

3446480 If I had the energy for it I'd do a reading of my own, but then again...:ajsleepy:. :twistnerd:

3446483
Hey, just do what you can. You're making an amazing story, after all!

#1: you have a youtube channel? Can I check it out?

#2: what equipment is it, amd is it good for recording.

3446518
Well, I don't have a channel yet, but you may absolutely check it out when I do! As for the equipment, The Daring Cookie suggested that I use a pair of Tritton Kunai headphones with the detachable mic for recording, and putting it all together in Windows Movie Maker. If you need any more information, send him a PM. He's awesome, and he'll definitely give you the information you need. And I'll let you know if it's good for recording, but Cookie's pretty happy with it.

3446489 I do already have my own equipment for recording, but as I said I just don't have the energy for it right now. Although, audiobooks are a valid form of professional voice-over. :twistnerd:

3446591 I keep forgetting to listen to my own demo. I finally got it back from my coach and I have yet to listen to it. Scary thing is that without even trying, my laundry room apparently is a good acoustic space...must be the exposed insulation. :rainbowwild:

3446600
Yeah, I can definitely see how that would work. It must muffle all of the outside sound and help amplify yours.

3446611 Actually, the insulation absorbs the sound which helps prevent unwanted reverb in the recording. That's why in pictures of recording spaces you see things like blankets, pillows, and foam covers placed around the mic.

3446529 thanks!

I'm thinking of starting a channel of my own

Question! If you don't mind that is, Miss Lyric.:yay:

Once you've made the recording, where will you upload it to? Youtube? or on FiMfiction? I'm sorry if you've already said that somewhere...:twilightsheepish:

3446630
Ah, gotcha! Yeah, I'll have to find a good space to do the recording in, and a time when the house won't be noisy. :derpytongue2:

3446674
You're very welcome! Send me a link if you do! I'd love to check it out.

3446997
I don't mind at all! And I haven't really said, but I plan on posting it to YouTube with a link in either my story description or in the author's notes to the reading. I'll also post a link to it in a blog, and I may post a link to my user page as well.

3447112
Thank you, Cookie! I actually have entertained the idea of doing some PC gaming on some of my favorite games, so we'll see if I do! Also, thanks for all of your help! You defintely deserve the kind words, because you've been so kind to freely offer your help and advice.

As for the color, thanks. :twilightsheepish: I wanted the color I liked the most, even if it cost a little bit more.

3447449 Although I will caution against using foam or linens in small spaces as they don't absorb bass (technical term "low frequency") sounds, and it will make the recording sound "boomy" like if you were standing in front of the speakers at a rock concert. :duck:

But if all you need is voice over audio, linens work great. Stick your mic in a closet where you hang your clothes. Have the mic be in front and in the middle with the clothes off to the side just a little bit.

My own recording studio, amazingly without even trying to design it for such, is my laundry room. At the front of the room where I have my mic I have exposed fiberglass which catches sound not only coming from me but from outside as well, and then behind me I have shelves on both sides of the room loaded with junk that more or less act as sound traps. :twistnerd:

Good luck to you my friend!

3447691
Thank you! I'll clean out my closet and give this a try!

3448110 Happy recording!

3448466
Thank you! And thanks for all the advice!

3448471 What program were you gonna use for the editing?

3448479
Probably just Windows Movie Maker. I know how to use Adobe Premiere as I use it at work all the time, but I doubt my boss would let me use it to edit a story about magical talking ponies. :derpytongue2: Plus I don't have the money for something like Premiere. So something simple will work for me.

3448484 Your boss likes MLP for all we know. :coolphoto: But yeah WMM will work. I use Garage Band.

3448508
:rainbowlaugh: He is geeky, but I doubt he's an MLP fan. But that's fine. We geek out over Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Princess Bride and the like instead.

Ooo, never heard of Garage Band! I'm guessing you're happy with it if it's what you use.

3448512 It came with the MacBook, and it works for what I need.

3448747
Aaah, gotcha. I have a PC rather than a Mac. Glad that it works well, though!

3448755 Hey, the only thing I really use the Mac for is audio recording. Everything else I have my trusty PC. :raritywink:
