    Upped to Mature

The patron requested it, so Blue Wedding Belles is now rated Mature, and will proceed under that banner. Figured I should post an alert about that.

No Good Review · 6:25pm Aug 31st, 2015

It's one of those funny things. I cannot get a good review. The closest I got was for It's OK to be a Pony, which got a 'mostly good' kind of review. Reviewers? They seem to hate the way I write, a lot. They also don't get past the first chapter or three of many of these stories that go on -for a long time-. I linked A Dangerous Sparkle, because I just got a review back on it from where I had submitted it ages ago. Sorry, not good enough.

It never is.

Litterary Critics are bastards. 100% of all of them. Heinlen once sudgested that they should all be rounded up, locked in a cage and observed to see how soon they would start eating each other... you know, for science. But hey, at least your readers like the way you write. I cringe at the thought of an actual reviewer picking one of my ill-fated stories apart for the sheer maliscious glee of tearing down a writer of extremely limited talent for daring to make stories (because I'm pretty sure that's how they think). I get enough of that from my readers, thank you very much. :scootangel:

Your more likely to get a negative review then a positive one as people often tend to focus on the negative rather the positive. However the fact they expresses what they dislike and like about a story shows that you have caught their interest. Looking at criticism and learning what to take from it and more importantly what NOT to take from it is one of the most important things to learn for an author. Also keep in mind the because you release stories a chapter at a time unlike a real book your reviews have a skewed perspective as they only see what has been published to that point from whatever point of view you have been showing. This might cause cries of OOC and the like do to a lack of understanding of the entire scenario. On the flip side this can hell you cause oftentimes authors get an idea for an end goal of a story and especially in fanfiction have a tendency to make the characters fit the story instead of the story fit the characters if you catch my drift.

3360640 I try not to do that. I have no idea how most of my stories will ever end. I just play the characters.

Just remember that if someone is looking for problems in your story, everything they didn't specifically mention must have been good.

I, for one, think you write wonderfully. Do not listen to the negatives unless they have a valid point and are trying to help you be better.

Honestly, I really enjoy your style ... and loved the hell out of "It's OK to be a Pony", which I really want to see continued.

3360695 Be careful of that. I would highly recommend that you have at least an outline of how the story should go. It doesn't need to be detailed but flying by the seat of your pants can lead to writing yourself into a corner.

Having an ending is necessary its about how to you get to the ending without jumping over character development that is critical.

3360771 The story in question has been done for months. I also did a few sequels from start to end without a planned ending.

I'm not really a reviewer, but speaking as someone who's read your stuff, it's pretty good IMO. Also, speaking as a fic reader in general...a lot of reviewers are so full of dung they can't even hear the crap they're spewing out.

You have a unique style that I enjoy, it reminds me of classic radio shows or printed stories from an older magazine, where the story is told in a very measured, serial pace. That said, most reviewers are looking for a certain type of moody one-shot focused more on a specific emotion than telling a story, and that's not really your style.

Plus there simply a length thing, I've notice reviewers are exponentially harder on stories the longer they are, and yours tend to be fairly long. I wouldn't sweat it too much.

3360720 Does that mean they like most of the story so much they skipped it?

I can see why. It really follows the stations of canon and doesn't seek to explore the characters themselves besides Twilight Sparkle. If I recall correctly, you like to focus a lot on memes, references and cisual humor that fails in a literary medium. To people that haven't played any Ratchet and Clank game (like myself), it's confusing as all hell, and the Twilight Sparkle here is so OOC that she shouldn't be called Twilight Sparkle. She's just a curious, friendly unicorn.
It's a fun read for those that like Ratchet and Clank. It was a sorta fun read for me because the 'My Little Dashie' thing appeals to me, and it's nice timekiller. It's not a great work of literature.
It's been over six months since I last read it, and I don't think I got past the 4th arc.

OH FUCK MY LIFE I WAS THINKING ABOUT A DIFFERENT FIC. WAI.

3361499 I have no idea what you're referring to.

3361112 No, it means they assumed the rest of it was fine, and they were too lazy to check and make sure.:raritywink:

3361625 Oh.
FUCK, I was thinking about another fic. That ratchet and clank fic.
I'll keep that post for posterity, and to make sure I don't mistake fics again
That said, I still can see why the reviews aren't favorable. It's just one event after another with little coherency or real causality. It's more like a series of books with no corehent, linking theme than one solid story. Full of substance, but it's all disconnected save for the constant characters. It's a bit like most HiE fics in that regard.
That said, I enjoy your worldbuilding, and in a sense it's a nice way to explore people. I managed to finish this one, albeit with a lot of skimming.

3362242 So you're saying my Pahtfinder/D&D story reads like a Pathfinder/D&D game?

I could do worse.
