Your Moment of Zen · 6:06am Aug 26th, 2015

With Jon Stewart gone from the Daily Show, someone has to do it, right?

Candidates on both the left and right have been criticized for their declaration of those words — “All Lives Matter” — diminishing the goals of the Black Lives Matter movement, which is asking people to recognize that black lives are devalued by our criminal justice system. Ben Carson, however, told ThinkProgress this week he sees the whole movement as divisive.

“We need to talk about what the real issues are and not get caught up in silliness like this matters or that matters,” he said at a rally to defund Planned Parenthood Tuesday outside the U.S. Capitol, where protesters held signs reading “Unborn Lives Matter.”

So... was he for or against the protest?

I'm not sure if this is a staggering inability to think about his own thinking or just saying whatever sounds good.

As an outside observer, this whole controversy over slogans is hilarious.

"My paticular movement matters"

Aside from all Carson's other silliness, I'm rather confused as to how "what matters" isn't a "real issue." And isn't declaring Black Lives Matter not a real issue automatically deciding whether it matters?

Except you're taking it completely out of context. The next paragraph reads as such:

“Of course all lives matter. I don’t want to get into it, it’s so silly,” he continued, laughing to himself. “Black lives are part of all lives, right? When we’re talking about a culture of life, then we ought to be talking about a culture of life and not allow ourselves to get caught up in all the divisive rhetoric and terminology and political correctness. It’s the reason we can’t make any progress as a society.”

He was at the rally because he believes all lives matter, including unborn ones.

If someone tells you that their mother died today, is an appropriate response to say, "a lot of mothers died today"?

It is Ben Carson. He was for the protest.

He was complaining about division and not addressing real issues while at a divisive rally over something which was settled by the Supreme Court a long time ago. He was complaining about emphasizing black lives matter while standing in front of signs that said "unborn lives matter".

It is a constant source of bafflement for me that the more criminal the actions of the dead individual, the more strident the protests.

Sorry Titanium Dragon, but I think Trevor Noah will do a fine job replacing Jon Stewart. Not a bad Moment of Zen, though :derpytongue2:

Just as an aside, for all people using the "all lives matter" hashtag; All Lives Matter was a campaign created by neo-Nazi leader Richard Spencer specifically and entirely to denigrate and dismiss the Black Lives Matter movement. Think about who you're allying yourself with when you use that hashtag.

As for Ben Carson, he's one of Trump's lackeys, no more need be said about him.
