Handyman conquers Europe! And other heresies... · 8:21pm Aug 17th, 2015

Trying to get things organized in such a way that I can take a much needed two week break from work and fuck off around Europe before, fuck I dunno, WWIII breaks out or something, hopefully starting August 31st. I'll try to have a chapter up that Monday so you guys won't be unduely delayed in receiving an update because I am off pulling a Napoleonenriching myself culturally. Going on the Interrail and thinking of starting in Rome, working my way up to Venice (wondering if I can squeeze Milan in there), off into Austria to see Vienna, up North into POLAN so I can INTO SPACEsee Krakow, before visiting Munich, Germany, then flying home again. I wanted to go see France but I kinda want to see these other cities more so, eh.

Meanwhile have this tidbit of lore, Novgo teased out of me.

Explanation of the Witchtorch
Novogorske eh - Rather clever of ye to be usin’ the witchlight as a sort of marker/compass/waypoint system thingy.

Handyman - It’s not that sophisticated or helpful a tool, it only picked up on Thorax when Handy was already physically close enough to her that it would affect its direction to Handy’s desired destination. Otherwise it would have pointed to her from the start.

Novogorske eh - Ah, so it’s directional aiding is correlated ‘twixt size and distance? The larger the target, the further away it’ll point from?

Handyman - Thereabouts, yes. If you were in Vietnam and you wanted to go to England, it’d point you in the direction of England…until you got close enough to an airport, then it’d point to an airport.

Novogorske eh - So it cross references nearby locations in order to get the user to their destination in a more efficient manner?

Handyman - Yes, but the witch magic is based on what the user knows. If an ignorant barbarian from 50AD wanted to go from Vietnam to England, the torch would not point in the direction of an airport he passes. In Handy’s case, he knows from experience that changelings have a means of getting back home quickly (though he doesn’t know Thorax no longer has that means) so the witchtorch associated that with Thorax, found her, pointed Handy in Thorax’s direction rather than just any random changeling he may or may not have passed on the way.

Novogorske eh - Because he wouldn’t have known they were changelings if such without the use of the...what did you call it?

Handyman - The auspex power?

Novogorske eh - Yeah, that.

Handyman - Yeah but an experienced changeling doesn’t so much as ‘hide their emotions, because that is amateur hour bullshit that only newbies do, its a dead giveaway to enemy changelings as to what and who you are if you hide them. Handy would have just picked them up as ordinary ponies.

Novogorske eh - That’s what I thought, eh.

If you're going to Rome, could you swing by the Vatican and steal Pope Francis' hat? Pls and thanx much.

I recommend you take a look at how much the flights cost, and plan the trip so that you save some money instead of blindly flying around in the most expensive airplanes.

if you go to munich make sure you see castle Neuschweinstein it is the best castle ever

3326955 He's interrailing, so he'll be catching a series of trains to travel Europe. He might have one flight from Ireland to continental Europe and a flight back, or he could take the ferry. But anyway most people who interrail get an interrailing pass instead of booking loads of separate trains as it is a lot easier. I'll shut up now.

3327081 Isn't flying is cheaper then the train? Or is that just in the UK?

how dare you not come to switzerland?

The auspex power

Ha, looks like the suggestion stuck after all.

I'd recommend checking out Florence instead of Milan, if you can work it.

3326946 Make sure you take pictures too. Gotta have that eviden... I mean memory. It would be interesting to see how the Catholic church handled the theft of something like that....

3326946 Already planning on it.

3326958 I'll be sure to, thank you.

3327094 Just the UK, European trains are famously cheap yet efficient.

3327182 There's kind of a lot of fucking mountains in the way.

3327406 Eh, I'll think about it. Its kinda French though.

3327716 Eh, it made sense, there's a power in World of Darkness Vampire: The Masquerade for vampires thats something similar, its basically the latin for to see/sense, and warhammer 40k calls its scanners auspexes, so I figured why not, puts a word to the power. Makes it easier to deal with.

3327947 Alright I'll keep it in mind.

3328037 You'd be surprised at the alarming amount of attempted thefts on Vatican artefacts as well as relics and other treasures. Everything from raving loons, conspiracy nuts, protestant iconoclasts, Catholic iconoclasts, Iconoclastic iconoclasts, the occasional Chines tourist freaking out and trying to break through bulletproof glass to destroy an artefact (actually happened once) and professional, no shit, totes legit cat burglers and thieves trying to get at shit. Vatican security is some of the tightest in Europe not because the Pope is in any danger, (most of the time) but everything else in the Vatican is.

Yet even with that the Vatican archives are still open to the public. I thinkt eh Swiss guard are simultaneously both the most silly looking and yet the most jaded ex-military guards in the whole continent outside of Swiss banks. "What's that Franz? Another cat burgler caught in room 25B? Fuck me, alright, I'll go get the net, you get the catnip."

3328567 we have tunnels :P

3328567 I just think it's a silly-looking hat.... I want it.

3328567
That's why I suggested it, I just didn't expect anyone to actually listen. :derpytongue2:

Incidentally, it is also an ancient Roman divination method that predicts the future through observing the flight of birds and provides the linguistic root for words like "auspice" and "auspicious."

I bet the Pope will give you a hat. Cus he's onto shedding earthen commodities as possible b/c his way of following the Jesuit code.

Ah, I thought the witch torch was an OP thing, letting Handy, if he wished, to find anything he wants, anytime he wants, wherever he wants...
