    Help I'm alive!

So this is a post just to let anyone paying attention know that a new chapter for "Principle of Equestria" is brewing, in fact it's brewing alongside a chapter for "This Can't Be Legal" as well as "A Different Sort of Sunset"...

The point is none of these stories are dead, despite the insane time gap since I last posted a chapter, y'all don't even know :raritywink:

    Quick Update!

    Hey all you lovely folks!

As any of you who read the author note on the latest chapter of PoE knows, I was laid off about 3 weeks ago, and it has been a little rough. I'm a pretty optimistic guy, but that can only carry you so far, and it's been a weird few weeks.

Separating the Sunlight subplot from Principal of Equestria · 11:44pm Jul 16th, 2015

So those of you that read the comments for Principal of Equestria will likely be unsurprised to hear that I have decided to separate the primary story from the romance subplot, and turn that into its own story. I have been considering this for awhile now, and as of publishing the last chapter, many readers seem to agree. I think both concepts are strong enough to stand on their own and I really enjoy writing both of them, so I think it's the right move.

More importantly, I've decided to separate them into their own continuities, which means both stories will be seeing some heavy edits compared to their original versions. Some of the chapters of Principal of Equestria will be getting changes to remove the Sunset and Luna bits, and the Sunlight story will be getting a few new chapters between the existing ones so that it can stand up on it's own. In the end, I think it will strengthen both stories on the whole.

So, expect that nonsense in the coming days. I will put up another blog post when the changes and the new story get published, as well as mention all of this again in the author notes of Principal of Equestria. Hopefully many of you are as excited about this as I am, it should make for some fun reading!

I look forward to both.

That... That seems like a mess, to be honest. It makes it sound like you consider sub-plots to be a bad thing, and a distraction, when they can be done really well as a part of the whole, or that you're giving in to the people who don't like romance in their ponies.

On the other hand, I can understand it in a way since this is kind of supposed to focus on Principal Celestia being stuck in Equestria in the first place.

Do the parts really need to be edited out, though? At the most, it seems like it could do with being something Sunset files away until the whole mess is sorted out, and THEN pursues in a sequel of sorts... though that wouldn't really work if you intended it to take place at the same time as these events, but in its own story.

3244241 Honestly it came to me halfway through writing the second intermission chapter. I kept feeling like i was writing a completely different story. Not in a bad way, as I was really having fun with it, but in a way that both plot lines were being held back by each other. The fact that others seem to feel that way more reinforced that feeling than it did create it. I considered trying to separate them while keeping them as branching stories, but I don't think I have it in me to maintain the timeline.

Now with all that, as I'm sitting here working on the edits for both, I am already really really happy with the writing that's coming out on both ends, and while obviously it's gonna be subjective, I think anyone who has enjoyed the story so far is gonna really like how all this turns out

Separating them on the continuity level feels rather drastic. The two stories can clearly coexist, they just need room to breathe.

I rather enjoyed that subplot. It was just diaster after disaster.

I'm looking forward to the spinoff now.

Honestly? So far, I enjoy Sunset's & Luna's Exxcellent Equestrian Adventure through Space (but not Time) enough that I'd be perfectly happy with a story that drops the whole romance thing and instead just does more of that.

Oh God No... The story is PERFECTLY fine and entertaining as it is. All splitting a story does is add confusion and make it harder to follow, and make it harder to write, as you now have to sync up two separate stories. Stories without subplots are what flesh out a story and keep it from becoming too one dimensional. PLEASE don't try to fix what ain't broke! Please! :twilightoops:

Please keep the Luna and Sunset moments, they were absolute gold.

3432010 I wouldn't worry too much, I still like the idea of splitting them, but for now, with how busy I've been and how long it takes me to get chapters done, I'm pretty much just focusing on finishing the story in the first place before I worry about messing with it.
