New Year and a Possible Fresh Start

I'm a week late for 2018 talk, but I've been pretty busy all things considered, especially since I've been working twelve hour shifts at my job for over a month now.

But, my personal life aside, there is a reason I wanted to make this little blog, and it relates to my most 'popular' story.

    Well then...

I went on Derpibooru to browse, and found This. (Semi-Grimdark warning, will delete this blog if necessary.)

The fact people like my stuff enough to do this is nothing short of mind boggling to me.

    Happy Birthday to Me

Another year older, and none the wiser; at least I'm at a job I like.

Also, I'm turning 28 on the 28th; that's supposedly significant or something.

    Calling for Editors

Well, I'm not sure if the chapter I've been working on is done to my satisfaction, but I can't think of anything more to add. Feel free to suggest ideas if you feel them appropriate; other than that, reply and I'll PM you the link.

    General Update MK2

So, a while back, I talked about how I had lost my job and everything was on hold until I found something new? Well, I found something new; starting Monday the 26th of June, I'll be employed at a new company. Possibly even making more than I was at my old job with what seems to be a better work environment as well.

Expect me to get back to story writing soon.

Why Do You Read My Stories? · 6:19am Jun 11th, 2015

Narcissistic, I know, but the question has been bugging me since I started writing all those years ago.

But seriously; my schedule is nonexistent, my writing is almost nothing but cliches, and the stories in question aren't even all that good. Yet I've hit the featured box, gotten on Equestria daily, and even have Alex Warlorn (writer of the Pony POV series) as my friend and fan; why do you guys like what I do?

I read it cos I enjoy it. Its fun..

:applejackunsure: Once upon a day, some time ago, I saw a story about hand horse as a necromancer. Being bored out of my mind and intrigued as to how such a tale would unfold, I opened up the first chapter and then was treated with a pleasent though sadly unfinished story. :twilightblush: Moar please?

Different premise mainly. Because we don't see too many interesting stories concerning other branches of magic like Necromancy and the such.

Also because Lyra is best pony for me. And how you do the characterisation is interesting. It's refreshing to read about different characters every now and again rather than just the mane six.

Personally I think cliches are cliches because people highlight them. Much like tropes I believe that when people highlight them, it makes them think it appears more often than not. Some minor psychology guessing.

Ever read a newspaper article about a shark attack or people being killed by falling coconuts?

Yeah...

I don't know about your other stories, but I read this one because it's interesting, unique and remarkably well done, and that makes it something I am willing to wait for.
Just try to work a little faster, please. I had honestly forgotten that I was following it.:twilightblush:

I'm trying, I swear I am; the problem is it's difficult to work second shift at a factory and keep a writing muse. I got more done for the next chapter today, but I couldn't even begin to guess when it's going to be done. I still have more to work out regarding character relations, and have to figure out intros for one more focus character and two more baddies. Especially since we're getting into the point where the story starts to show just how alternate it is from canon Equestria.

Relax. I understand, these things take time, especially in an environment that's not conducive to writing. It'll get done when it gets done, and when it gets done I'll read it, but not a moment before.

Because you have fascinating ideas and enjoyable executions. I'm certainly not one to complain about update schedules. Fan fiction is an unpaid labor of love (except for people with Patreons.) I'm just grateful for whatever's written.

Your work is enjoyable, I think you underestimate it. It's not in my top ten or twenty or fifty pieces on fimfic, but things can be appreciated for being simply good without everything having to achieve extreme excellence.

Because freaking Lyra is a freaking necromancer. And it's well written.

What else is needed? NOTHING. (Except maybe more updates, but that's totally up to you.)

Speaking as the EQD pre-reader that approved your fic... The story was different and fascinating enough to really catch my interest. You write well! So you haven't updated in a while, so what? Neither have I! Doesn't stop me from enjoying the work of others, like yourself. I've re-read Necromantic Adventures a few times by now, in fact, and still enjoy it.

Because the style and the topics remind me a little Full Metal Alchemist. And I love FMA.

...having actually seen some of FMA, I have to ask... how?

3139631
I don't know why exactly, but while reading your story I got a FMA vibe.
Maybe it could be the dualism between alchemy and necromancy: both can be used for good or for evil, both are used to fight modifying own body parts and both are ultimately unable to bring back to life a dead family member.

Personally I love the story. I've read almost all your other stories here and find this the strongest. The characters are well fleshed out and you've done a good job of adapting their fanon personalities to your specific setting. Just the roles they've been given are great and the small personality clashes so fat are great.

I also really love how you do the action sequences. Very clear, very detailed, and all around very cool. That's essential for such a story and you do it excellently. The world you're building is very interesting and I eagerly await new chapters.

Like most everyone here, I'll echo the request for more, faster, but at the same time understand, hey, life happens. Hope you're able to provide somesomething soon if things work out for you.

Eh, if and when alchemy appears in the story, it's more likely to be in line with the traditional meaning of the word. That is, something along the lines of a semi-mystical form of chemistry; there's a bit more to it than that, and circles/sigils do have a minor part in them, but... yeah, sorry. No doing magic while calling it something else here.

3139002 Rome wasn't built in a day, art takes time and effort. A rush job would just detract from the value of the finished piece, and as someone with a demanding job, I understand completely. If you ever need an extra proofreader or something to that nature though, I wouldn't mind lending a hand.

I haven't actually read your stuff yet. The Necromantic Adventures of Lyra Heartstrings was one of the first stories I found here that sounded interesting, but it wasn't finished yet, so I just started tracking the story, waiting for it to be finished.

This was back when I barely remembered the name Lyra Heartstrings as a background pony.

Why Do You Read My Stories?

With how often it updates, I don't.

ZING!

Carry on.

the premise sounded awesome, Lyra is awesome, I like stories with evil, not-actually-evil guys, everything seems thought out and all the characters have personalities. I don't think I could dislike this story if I tried.

What 3139136 said.

It is an interesting premise and entertaining story.

my schedule is nonexistent,

I literally forgot I had posted a story on here when my winter semester at college started and I didn't remember until someone favorited it a few weeks ago. You're doing better than I am.

my writing is almost nothing but cliches,

Please take a moment to think about all of those philanthropic necromancers out there. I can think one one because I read about him in last month's GameInformer and I doubt he as made a living out of reuniting families one last time.

and the stories in question aren't even all that good.

The fact that I am taking the time to make this argument when I could be sleeping off a 12 hour shift is argument enough. Now good night, believe in yourself, and I look forward to more Lyramancer.

Because first, it has Lyra. Background ponies are awesome, second, necromancy is usually, for good reasons, considered evil, this is quite literally the ONLY time I have EVER seen necromancy being used for good. And it's awesome. The very PREMISE sounds absurd, but, it's well written, it's funny, it's awesome, the protagonists are varied and given a certain amount of suspension of disbelief, realistic, they have their own strengths and flaws, they have their own hurdles to overcome, plus, it's awesome, and best of all, the story is compelling, because you could have perfect grammar and understand the characters perfectly, but if the premise isn't interesting, people won't read it. Which is why this is awesome. It hits all the bases in the right order. And it's funny. I'm a sucker for good comedy.:twilightblush:
