2923252 Possibly, depends on how you want the story to work really. Would be interesting to see Something along the lines of Burnt Orange Juice done with Pinkie Pie and the other Mane 6. Especially if like the Pinkie Pie on decides to act like the real one for a bit whne they meet.
2923275 It's basically where you take a character of yours that's a human (or just yourself) and have them dress up as a character from a game/movie/anime and have them get transported to Equestria by a creature of the Void.
An example would be my story Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey? Nope, Just Max. You'll be able to find a link to the actual group on my fic. They have an idea thread you could pick someone to dress up as.
My own selfish preference would be canonical Silververse story that has limited or no direct tie ins to Silver's life. Jake is a solid option, and would be about the upper bound of connection. But plenty of other ideas you could work on. Maybe a slice of life involving a Humanway gaming group dealing with the oddly agressive backlash the game seems to have? Maybe changelings dealing with integration into pony society and some of the struggles that brings?
Oh, how about changeling Humanway cosplayers dealing with antibiped ponies who insist the changelings should only take on ponylike forms?

How about this:
Apple Bloom gets her cutie mark, but Scootaloo and Sweetiebelle don't. To her horror, she discovers that Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon still hate her and the remaining CMC members feel uncomfortable around her. It could end there as a tragedy/sad story, or AB could wake up from a nightmare and realize how happy she is as a blank flank. (Perhaps the Moon Princess is snickering somewhere)
A story about the human police detective who's investigating the strange disappearance of two unrelated adult males who apparently vanished while walking down a normal street...

One of Jake's friends back in the human world thinks he sees a human in the background of an episode of MLP:FiM season 5, and it looks a lot like Jake....
How about a story about Cloudburst, Main Event and Eclipse? They could help old ladies cross streets against their will, beat up a pony who's rehearsing his part as a criminal in a play, help a swindler because he says he's raising money for an orphanage, and other disastrous attempts to do good deeds.
Twilight turns 21, and discovers that her alicorn metabolism prevents her from getting drunk. Her friends offer to help with her research...
This story would be pretty dumb, basically just an excuse to write drunk dialogue for the Mane 5, (or however many of them are older than Twi) but it might be funny.

2925837 Well you only mentioned them briefly. The uninformed do-gooders felt like a grown-up version of the CMC; they get just the smallest part of an idea and then run with it.
This idea wouldn't work as a short story, but....
Has anyone tried a Tarzan/Jungle Book spin on the Human-in-Equestria genre? What if a human was raised by ponies from infancy (like Spike) and was essentially a pony in a human body? I assume it would result in the "doesn't fit in, but has unique skills" archetype (Slow, weak and awkward on all fours vs great balance and finger-related superpowers). A little cliche perhaps, (though maybe not on this site) but it might be an interesting psychological exercise.

It's not important though, it wouldn't be a short story anyway.
How about this for a short story idea:
A changeling is on assignment as a deep cover operative in Canterlot, but a local pony is acting suspiciously whenever he/she is around. The changeling must put on the performance of their life to convince this other pony that they are who they appear to be. The punchline is that the other pony is also a changeling and was also trying to convince the protagonist of their authenticity.
Extra points if you can figure out where I stole this idea from.
