Derpy, Pinkie Pie, Sweetie Belle, Chrysalis. Myself, summed up in four MLP characters. I'm a deeply flawed individual, but if you can get past that, I'm sure we can be the best of friends.

how do you get in the mood to write? · 11:35pm Mar 18th, 2015

I guess to be more specific, when do you find is the best time for you to be in the mood to write? Reason why I'm asking, is because I haven't been. At all. Between college work, EV breeding on Pokemon Omega Ruby (which is a bitch, by the way) and just being overall in remarkably poor health, I haven't been up to writing anything at all lately.

And I know you all have told me otherwise, but I feel like I'm letting y'all down by not posting anything. Especially seeing as NR has gotten pretty popular, not to mention (and I'm kind of tooting my own horn here) but my most popular story, In Nomine Equi (which, if you haven't read yet, I'll tag it as the tagged story so you can find it) just broke 450 likes.

I kind of have a reputation on this site, and I don't want it to get ruined because of my lack of posting anything. So I guess just give me some tips on how to get in the mood to write, 'cause I can't seem to come up with any on my own.

Usually I just listen to some music

I suggest listening to music while attempting to write some story ideas down.

I do better at writing, at night, don't know why but the night fresh air helps me.

Ya don't get into the mood, the mood gets into ya... Seriously, I'm not even being funny about that, it's extremely had to dictate when inspiration comes to ya when you do anything that involves creativity. But the most obvious answer would be to do something mildly relaxing, something that helps ya think and stuff.

So hope I could help with that stereotypical advice and the best of luck to ya!

how do you get in the mood to write?

Easy.

I just don't.

Hmm, either when I have a stroke of genius or listen to music.

I'm like the rest of these dinguses and I listen to some music.

First, I always get myself in a creative mindset by reading something (Right now I'm reading Paper Towns. John Green is the man) or playing some guitar. Then I get a huge ass bowl of rice crispies, sit down on my bed, and put on some music. I tend to pick an artist that suits the story and just listen to that one artist while I'm writing. It helps me keep the story's feel consistent and gives me a frame of reference for stuff. Also, if I know I'm going to be writing late, I usually drink some Arizona Iced Tea to keep me awake.

Although in the end, none of this matters if I'm just not feeling it that day. This routine is a mere placebo, really, and I don't know why I feel like writing some days more than others. I just do, and I think that's something that many writers feel. There are those of us who are machines when it comes to this sort of thing, but I'm certainly not one of them.

How do you get the time to write?

Blog title fixed. I find myself more often than not in the mood to write. There's just so much to do in this world, so it often has to stay in the background sady. (Looking at you, organic chemistry and astrophysics!)

I guess keeping the 'what if'-thinking up helps a lot.

What if Spike is an undead dragon, born dead? What if necromanic blood runs through Twilight's veins without anyone knowing, herself included? Further on, what if he is the chosen undead dragon, destined to raise the age of dragon/undead and end the age of mortals/living? Bam, mood to write achieved. Bam, back to online-lecture. Tsk.

My own productivity has been at a low ebb recently, which I attribute to actually having to work at the day job that pays (most of) the bills, and the fatigue that inevitably follows. I'm still thinking ahead on my current story, but I don't seem to be doing any actual typing.

I haven't been in the mood to write in something like 8 months.

While listening to music does help get you in a relaxed state to write, I view writing more as a muscle. You have to use it often to get it in shape. That can be hard if you try to jump into doing a thousand words or more suddenly, so you should start slow. Write a few sentences at a time, then move towards paragraphs, and so on. That's what I did to regain my writing from a winter break, and now I have to stop myself from trying to spend every moment writing.

Oh, and you should try to stay away from internet, games, and movies. Those are the biggest distractions around currently, and they can truly hamper one's chance of writing.
