Hi folks,
This is a heads up that I'm making some changes to my most popular story. The vast majority of these are to improve readability (better perspective management). But some of them are more foundational changes. Changes to how much Twilight shares about the Princesses being missing. And why.
That seems to be the biggest thorn in any particular reader's side. Most folks just straight up hate the idea of them leaving because of a game of 'hide and seek.' I could double down, again, and say "No! Mah Artistic Integrity!" but seriously, it's my little pony fan fiction. Artistic Integrity in fan fiction and $1.50 will get me a cup of coffee.
It's a big change, sure. But it also doesn't screw (too much) with the rest of the stories in the Alternate Universe.
So if you love PTS500 as it was when you first read it, now is the time to download a copy of it. Because after today (or tomorrow) it's never going to be the same.
Is the increased explanation a retcon of sorts, or has there been a method to their madness all along that you're just going to reveal a little bit more early in the overall series plot?
Awww, I liked them doing it for hide and seek. I mean I figured that wasn't the main reason, just the one they gave before poofing.
I actually found it quite charming that they originally left as part of a short-term game, discovered to their surprise and relief that the world kept turning without them, and decided to make it a long-term semi-retirement. :)
What will the new reason be?
For the sake of those who are way too busy to reread the story after it's modified, will you post a blog post containing the relevant altered scenes? That'd be very helpful to your readers.

Lol, on a serious note, do what you want. I found it charming enough, but I won't object to change.
I personally think that while story is brilliant enough as it is - adding some explanation/reasoning to their disappearance will make the story better.
I never understood until late into 505 that the Princesses were still around. I felt like the world didn't need them and so the gods simply moved on. They simply faded out, perhaps exploring the world or chasing the stars. I thought it similar to Middle Earth and the Lands of the West. Thus the role of the two Sisters fell to Twilight and Candace and life continued.
You have created a great story and I'm excited to read anything you write. I'll definitely download a copy and save it. Thanks for the heads up and, of course, the great work.

Why not just save both versions on FimFic as separate chapters? Or save the second one as a GDoc with a link in the description?
IMO the original is worth saving, but have them both accessible.

I would have sworn that was just the infantilized version of the truth: that they simply left, and now everypony was looking for them. I hadn't imagined anyone would have fault with that.
