Seriously, are we so bored we have to make a giant scene about everything we don't like about another person?
How passively-aggressive does one have to be to get a story approved that bashes on other people's beliefs, however much we disagree with or not, that it would justify devoting a whole STORY towards the user?
I mean, I can be pretty vocal about a lot of issues, real world issues too, not just stuff like how or if Starswirl's beard actually WAS the root of his powers and if shaving it was what caused his demise, like: The lack of owning up to responsibility taking schools have when a person is the clear target of bullying but treats the victim as the root of the problem.
The way people dismiss those below the poverty line are often times abused and dismissed by the very systems that are supposed to help them become more financially secure in a world where jobs are more and more scarce each passing day where the average 28-35 year old end up homeless or worst due to discrimination and creditchecks designed to gate out 'potential thieves' for being unable to pay all their bills on time because they couldn't get another job in time to keep up with bills and medical expenses. Often times not caring the hardships one faces on a daily basis just to keep yourself going for one more day, let alone single parents with mouths to feed who find themselves suddenly thrust into such situations on a nearly daily basis.
It's hard being best pony. It's harder still making sure you don't let others down without letting yourself down too.
And that's just an example into a long list of topics I COULD talk about. Some that people would see favorably, and others that would likely be more abrasive. And I CAN be abrasive. I mean, how often do you hear about a fellow site user facing money problems? Those frivolous buys you make now? Well, you may not feel it now but it'll certainly come and catch you when you least expect it. So often we're content to just enjoy the here and now, never putting much focus on where and how we'll end up in the future.
But who really cares. And you know what? Why should we? Isn't this site one of those places we come together to ESCAPE all the political drama? To read stuff about pastel colored ponies and maybe even make some friends? Support our favorite stories and the ones who make them?
So, why do so many spend so much time to literally gang up on someone who writes stories with some of the more candy-coated sugary OCs chuck full of everything from G1 ponies' Seaponies to fanon OC Batponies, and more that include those like Pen Stroke's own "Nyx" whose the big focus, yeah fanfic using fanfic OCs say what you will, and Fillystudio's own "Snowdrop", one called "Reality Check" such a 'cool' person to hate on?

And I ask again. Why are even MODS showing up to be OKAY with all this? Because, apparently, site's Story Approver "SpaceCowPony", a writer himself on this site no less, seemed to find hysterical about approving a story that he apparently found really enjoyable on the basis of who the story was passive-aggressively implying, something confirmed through the author's sarcasm that the story is doing, to approve a story he enjoyed, again, on the basis of it being a satirical RIFF on a fimfic user known as, "Reality Check".
Yeah, whatever. He has abrasive views. Believes RD isn't a lesbian, and here's a shocker for you, ponies aren't your personal political playground to lawd LGBT(+ HEY, LOOK, A NEW LETTER: "Q"!) political views and forget we bronies shipped the mares before some tried planting its flag up in here and try and force Rainbow Dash into your little 'symbol of pride', seriously you don't own fucking rainbows! Why not FLUTTERSHY heaven knows she's the most likely closet lesbian on the show, assuming she's not in an actual relationship with Angel anyways...

But case in point, who cares? Apparently the LGBT(+Q!) who have an axe to grind with him, still do. Seeing how many enemies he's made in the LGBT(+Q) groups, it's not hard to see why some would go to the length of making a fic to mock the site user Reality Check. People who apparently don't like the fact that people out there still exist that have different political views on stuff they are passionate about.
Sure, he's close minded, firm in his beliefs, but you guys keep trying to associate Dash to lesbian solely based on her having rainbows and liking sports! Ponies are more pan-sexual anyways, FREE LOVE BITCHES, and don't think about discriminatory shit based on race or gender. (unless you're a baby dragon, fuck baby dragons!)
It's time to get real people. You go out of your way to spread the word of this person being so evil, so vile, even go so far as to bomb his stories because of his own personal opinions?

I openly admit you guys are pretty backwards thinkers who only serve to increase his popularity and drag in more people who have little to nothing to do with wanting to know about his personal life or views into either ignoring, joining the hate cause ala SJW tumble style or what typically ends up happening, increase his views and follower count.
And to Spacecowboypony? Site mod or not, you're a bigger ass than most claim Reality Check as being, solely on the basis you approved that story with ill intents. Even if you don't seem to think your intents be ill towards anyone you consider the story to be harmful to.
I'd say more on the matter. But honestly that story was pretty meh as it political based stories go, and that's ignoring the stuff practically smothered out with all the foalcon and what makes this fic even remotely attractive towards it's intended crowd.
But this is one time I honestly feel pretty much disturbed at how Reddit mentality this site is showing to be, which is pretty much typical of most any non-professionally run site anyways run by whoever shows enough interest. It just feels like no one seems to be standing up to uphold shit far as site standards go short of potential lawsuits which seems to be the only real way to see action even be considered at times.
Fuck it. That's all the drama attention I'll be giving this 'After the Fact' style opinion post. I got pony related stuff to read/devour(and totally not comment or vote on because buck that's a lot of effort.)
TL;DR: The more focus you put on something you feel impedes progress, the harder it is to move forward. It's time to let the guy rest. Beating a dead horse gets you no where.

I wasn't even aware this was a thing. Honestly, it's stuff like this that makes me want to treat FimFiction the same way I treat Tumblr and Facebook: avoid it and just leave it to the vultures.
What's the point of trying to get a name for yourself if all that does is make you a bigger target? What's the point of trying to be a positive force in the community when any story can get featured based not on quality, but on controversy? Why bother trying to spark a debate and incite some thoughtful introspection when the system rewards you for causing arguments?
Really, this is dangerous. Can you imagine what might happen if this was done with a writer lacking in self-esteem, or confidence? It is not okay to bash on people for their beliefs. You bash people based on what they do, and you respect them for trying to be decent people even to those they disagree with. I don't know if that was the case here, but the principle stands.
Game the system, I say. If the system is corrupt, corrupt it more and abuse it.

Freedom of speech, brah. Reality Check has every right to spout his nonsense to the world, and we have every right to tell him he's a moron for it.
You mean like how Reality Check hates the fact that there are people out there who have different views than him and is loudly vocal about it? The hypocrisy is strong with this one.
That rant he did about Rainbow Dash is only one in a long, long, long line of morally reprehensible blog posts covering everything from his views on same sex couples to how poor people shouldn't be receiving help from the government because those are his tax dollars they're getting, despite the fact that he, himself, is on food stamps. He's a genuinely unpleasant person on almost every level imaginable, and if he didn't want to get those sorts of responses, then he shouldn't be posting stuff on the internet.
It's a fact of life that someone will always disagree with you, and he has a knack for supporting things that will make almost everyone disagree with him.
And for the record, the picture of Rainbow Dash and Applejack he was ranting about was posted by Ashleigh Ball, the actor who does the voices of Rainbow Dash and Applejack. Leaving the argument of professionalism aside, since that's a whole different argument, would you have preferred her to use someone else's characters? I can pretty much guarantee you that she picked that picture instead of a different one specifically because it was the two characters she voices and she thought it was amusingly fitting because of that fact.
People don't use Rainbow Dash in lesbian ships because she has a rainbow mane, they do it because every pony in the show is secretly a lesbian to most of the fandom. She gets straight ships just as often as the rest of the characters do. If you want to get upset with people for shipping her, set your sights on all the people that ship her with inanimate objects. That's the area where she has far more awkward ships than any other character.

Blogs that only those who follow him or seek out would ever see. Unless you happen to know he has some offsite hate group meeting he attends to re-blog his stuff over every social media site with some friends.
His views is something that clashes with my own. But there is merit in that financial aid is just a bandaid in a bigger issue with our economy with banks and other businesses in control of the housing market and a system in place made to slowly attrition off those unfavorables those with his and even more sinister plans have for sweeping the homeless problem and those in clear danger of losing their houses over a single screw up or unexpected layoff.
But you miss the point it seems. I could argue back and forth over why so many NEED state and federal assistance, and we could argue the overpopulation and lack of birth control of unwanted pregnancies and hypocrisy that denies women their bodily right to carry or not carry a child, and go into more political nonsense round-abouts.
But I won't. Not with him. Not with you. Or anyone that can't directly affect or care enough to try and affect change in our country. Because short of a state senator, nothing good will come from arguing with someone who refuses to seek ways to better the problems people face everyday of our lives.
So, this here? Unless he's rallying protests to stop women from being able to get an abortion or promoting violence on others for just being different or is running for office of some kind that could actually negatively impact people that affects us on a personal and physical as well as truly emotional level, I could not care less what his opinions are about how people shouldn't be allowed to buy food with tax-payer dollars.
Especially from one living on such assistance just further discredits their hateful banter.
I would never have even viewed that person's stories or blogs if so many didn't constantly throw that stuff all over fimfiction like he's actually one-manning the downfall of Fimfiction.
If so many people hate him for his views. WHY are SO MANY of you FOLLOWING him? Hell, I follow him out of PROTEST of how absurd the PROTESTS against his abrasive political and quite honestly outdated views or unsympatheticness towards matters that harm so many.
Does it make any sense? How does one man actually deserve all the hate he's getting if the ones hating him are only being led to him to hate him for his unfavorable views?

Honestly, there was probably a time you all had a just opinion about the man. And he's still abrasive. But how does he stop you from doing and thinking whatever you wish? All you do is make OTHERS actually SYMPATHIZE with someone whose just constantly being attacked for stuff he isn't, to my knowledge, trying to spread across fimfic.
But then again, I don't follow him for his views, he and blogs are 100% avoidable. No excuses there. None. Zilch. His stories are more in style of G1 ponies and I'm not overly attached to his stories by what many can see, maybe tossed a like on one, but to my knowledge I've yet to favorite anything worthwhile.
Let he be judged for the stories he produces, not his political views. Why seek out something you can avoid aside from being bored enough to toss in a few cents that could be tossed towards Net Neutrality's Table II or help push for more rights for one's sexual lifestyle, or better yet how about put actual pressure on congress to help pass the bill to tackle rising rental costs where wages remain stagnant each year despite inflation?
Reality Check is the least of everybody's problems.

2510911 TL;DR version: Many people don't care about personal feelings as long as the one being hurt has an unpopular opinion. And sadly too many people care more about making controversy than reading good stories. I feel your pain. Many good writers before you have long since left for the same reasons you stated.
Longer version:
I've seen many blogposts of a lot of my old favorite writers leave posts very much like yours about the type of stories that get features, how little it pays off to put so much effort into an original tale.
Unless those higher ups promote it in a 'must read' type site post, often times even popular writers, by many a people's standards, just quit or try to release a 'low grade' fic that pales in comparison to their own 'magnum opus'. And in a couple writers' case, it happened and they promptly quite fanfiction on this site forevermore. Likely writing altogether entirely.
It gets harder for me each year, who actually enjoys the many stories people put out, to find a good read the more saturated the place gets with more people with less a care for writing something good and instead do aim to write for something that'll hopefully hit the feature box type of 'good'.
Not all are bad, but a good lot of them aren't memorable and worst yet a good 70%+ (I say about 95% honestly) of all new multichapter fics will ever continue past the first chapter, much less see an ending.
So, while it's only coming from one person as of right now, to this day I still hold your CMC Sleepover at Octavia's as one of my favorite and memorable stories among the CMC focused type stories. Which only recently got competition from a certain Summer and that was by Cardez. You really do write some wonderful stories. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. I'm pretty thankful you didn't take down the story, so thanks for that.
As much as this site can be toxic. I can't express how much people need more writers like you who actually take the time to paint a world for your characters to interact with and be more like themselves or how they'd act if put into certain situations like Scootaloo and Octavia's relationship. Stories like the author behind "Twilight's Apprentice" as well, did a great job, only only getting a bit out there around chapter 20 or 21(?), and all those who thrive to give us family friendly fiction all the way up to Teen even, just go vastly under appreciated sometimes.
You'll just have to decide what's best for you, if the site makes you feel emotionally drained and just not fun anymore, I'm certainly not so selfish as to say you should 'ignore it'. Writing is supposed to be fun and engaging to you and the readers. If you aren't feeling it, chances are we won't either and that's just not fun for anyone. Least of all you.
So keep enjoying your break and just continue to avoid the drama.

But I can see that being a very exploitable feature, and this whole drama with Reality Check would make promoting attacks on someone potentially more hazardous than I'd like to believe it. I'd still like to have such a feature, if only it came with an option to make some blogs remain personal (no follow someone for drama and retweet through your followers to create drama).

Heh. Not planning to leave, mind you, but I just find this sort of practice demotivating to the extreme. You're one of the few people I've met on this site who actively preaches actual tolerance, in the sense that it's good to listen to the opposition.

It's not a matter of being forced to follow him. It's for entertainment. Like watching a train wreck. Sure, there are people who get genuinely butthurt about the garbage he spews, but for most of us it's all about the entertainment value. Like this:

Also, you seem to be completely ignoring the entire beginning of what I said. No one's said he has to stop posting things. He's more than free to do what he wants. Ponies get lost in the woods and scare each other silly as stuff gets revealed to be the making of one of the foals and not some scary monster... and maybe not. So many silly things and I don't doubt you barely have time for your already running stories. xD

2532949 Yeah, sorry about the delays on the next "Diamond Tiara goes to Boot Camp" chapter. I've been closing in on the end of "Intermediate Lessons" and I've been trying to wrap it up, so I can take it off my plate. After a I finish this current chapter, DTgtBC will probably be my priority next. Knowing that you're looking forward to it, should motivate me rather well.
I'm gonna try to be getting an update for all of my Incomplete stories this month, at least, and ideally finish "Conversation Piece" outright, as it's so short. And it helps that I know exactly how it's going to go, but as I said, I'm trying to wrap up Intermediate lessons too.
And I think the Nightmare Night Campfire story would be a marvelous idea. I can probably come up with something that is post DTgtBC, but does not give away any conclusions that wouldn't be glaringly obvious to anyone paying attention to the arc of the story. DTgtBC still has a ways to go.
"Stay in the Light" remains a side-project, but I think you're right; the month of scares justifies an update to that one too.
In any event, I did enjoy your blog post, even if it's a result of some vexation with someone.
