It's the obligatory new year blog post.

And yes, I am posting this at around midnight on new year. I have a nasty cold, so I decided to disobey nurgle's one command and stay home.

    Just for kicks

I'm mucking around with Lulu for a work-related project (very boring stuff) and thought I would do a quality test with something fun.

Or maybe that comma is in the wrong place. I haven't decided yet.

    The odd things

I've just been reading through old comments on my scraps story, after publishing yet another chunk from the ancient cutting room floor. It's remarkable how many of the commenters are still around - but also how many logged off for the last time, soon after making their last comment there.

    But in brighter news

While I'm not making any promises about any particular project here, I am actually writing again. I figure if I write enough of something, some pony words might drop out somewhere along the line as well. You never know. What I'm working on at the moment is essentially a re-write of a story I read a long time ago; an old pulp sci-fi tale, about a spaceship that manages to get lost in the

Another EqD addition · 9:59pm Sep 16th, 2014

A wahoo is in order, I think, as And The Stars Shine Forth has just hit Equestria Daily.

Wahoo!

It's an odd outcome, to be honest. I submitted this fic to EqD shortly after it was initially published, only to see it rejected for what I thought were, at the time, rather trivial and frankly strange reasons. It got a strike for them as well. I've maintained ever since that Equestria Daily's fanfiction submission process was flawed, and I'd even outlined ways it could be improved - though I never seriously attempted to push them forward. After all, who am I but one writer with a fairly small following? I let it go though. The changes that particular pre-reader was asking just didn't sit well with me, so I did the only sensible thing I could and decided not to bother. At the time I was not inclined to change things and I doubt they would have appreciated me whining about it, so I just left it alone completely.

They've since changed their process (and it's much better in my opinion, though I still maintain that there are far superior ways to do it). I figured I might as well give it another shot, and with the barest of alterations (one excised passage and a few semi-colectomies) it slid straight onto the site.

As with much in life, it's a case of playing the hand you're dealt. As far as I can tell, last time I got a pre-reader who just didn't like the fic, regardless of its technical merits or issues. This time the reader did like it, despite its less than ideal state. What can you draw from that, except that life is one endless stream of of I didn't expect that to happen?

Anyway it's up, so hi to all the new readers, my thanks to all those who've stuck with it so far. New chapter should be along at the end of the week (and my original goal of one chapter every three weeks is looking a little optimistic).

Not really a fan of EqD, as I still find their submission process to be flawed. I really haven't been bothered to submit anything in three years.

I don't think I've ever read anything that was featured on EqD anyway. I just find an author I like, read everything he's published and then look for any other author he recommends for more stuff to read.

I don't think you need to change anything unless you feel it needs improvement. Let the critics be damned, its your fiction.

well, this fic already got tons of love, and you've written that Xenophile series. This got over 3400+ views and over 400 likes. Their loss, this could of been one of those fics EQD needed in the earlier days when people were giving the site so much shit over the "Friends before Unknowns" clique that they've been accused of for ages.

But congrats anyways. I'm curious though, which scene did ya remove? I rather loved the racial divide and the colorful pony swears. If only to compare it with my copy of the story to see. Love this Luna and AJ story. Love triangles are the best! <3

2460375 It was a small passage in the first chapter that I was never too happy with. Most of it gets repeated later on in the same chapter anyway.

2460203 It's understandable. I do remember the early days when people would think an eqd feature was the ultimate goal of pony fiction. Strange days...

EqD is run by humans. Humans are varied, flawed, and interesting.

Applejack! :ajsmug:

2460438 Getting in the fimfic featured box is the goal now, but getting on EQD is still a far greater honor. So congrats!
